    Well, given the massive damage done to the franchise by the current owners, it's hardly a surprise.

    Wow, I had no idea that X-wing was going to be discontinued. Our FLGS still has a ton of product on the walls. I loved how it looked, but for me the price point was too much, and once I heard how everything changed with 2.0 I'm so glad I didn't pour any money into this. I would have loved for the ships for RPG games though. It is sad when a game like this is discontinued.

    It is sad when a loved game ends. However the treasure hunting now becomes the thrill. I still look for Warhammer Invasion card packs for a decent price. Monsterpocalypse came back. Later this year Heroscape is slated to come back. So it may not be the complete end, but a hibernation for the game. Either way, like you said it is still something that can be enjoyed, and you don't have to worry about meta updates with a closed system.

    It died as soon as they thought 2.0 was a good idea.

  • @anja2792
    @anja2792 5 месяцев назад +9

    I disagree that 2.0 was a mistake, everyone I talked to in person that had played 1.0 said 2.0 was still better balanced, especially with the ability to fine tune points every few months. Granted I also had a similar reaction when 2.5 came out with missions, where I didn't play very much and eventually moved on.
    I think what killed the game was a mix of the pandemic and the company change handing it to AMG during the pandemic so the changes came at a time they couldn't bring in enough new players to counteract the disenfranchised ones that doesn't like the rule change.

    • @Wolf359inc
      @Wolf359inc 5 месяцев назад +1

      2.0 was a needed update to the bloated set of rules that 1.0 had become. 2.5 was an unnecessary change, made by people who simply did not understand the game, but enjoyed rolling lots of dice. I like the removal of points from the cards, but that is about the only good thing I can say about 2.5.
      I will happily go back to playing 2.0, or even 1.0. Both are better games than 2.5.
      I agree that the pandemic, and the move to Atomic Mass, killed the game. I don’t blame Atomic Mass - I feel they were told they would be taking on the game, whether they wanted to, or not.
      Sad to see that a game the was once more popular than Warhammer 40K has ended like this.
      I am starting to think Star Wars is cursed, since being bought by Disney. They have taken what was, arguably, one of, if not the, world’s biggest franchises, and run every aspect of it into the ground. There are a few bright spots, here and there, but nothing compared to where the franchise was, pre-Disney.
      Is it a case of Disney sabotaging the franchise, because it wasn’t originally theirs, and their take on it was, to be kind, poorly received, or has everything just been mismanaged that badly, by the respective licensees? In any case, it takes something special, intentional or otherwise, to destroy something that should be making money hand over fist.
      Cheers,

    2.0 was needed, FFG just fumbled the roll out by making it too expensive to convert your fleet. The conversion packs were "ok", but there should have been a way to buy individual ship packs so that if I had a tie swarm, I wouldn't have to buy 2-3 empire conversion kits.
    But when AMG took over they put little to no effort into it. A few card packs, and they fundmentally changed the game with 2.5, changing the game from a dogfighting game to mission objective game and some fundemental mechanics changes that were not needed.. AMG made generic pilots deliberately too expensive, so that people would fly Luke Skywalker, Vader, etc... and while the standard loadouts were a cool idea, the later sets were OP and they completely ignored the other 5 factions beyond Rebels and Empire. AMG, never delivered on the reprints like the Gunboat and the only new ships that launched under their watch were already in development under FFG.

    • @GaddisGaming
      @GaddisGaming 5 месяцев назад

      AMG totally screwed the pooch on this one. They never really wanted x-wing and the amount of effort they put in it developing it and making it a better game shows it. You could have done a open source community development team and it wouldn't have been better.

    The problem with X-Wing is that all the iconic film ships had been released, and everyone had everything they wanted. FFG and then AMG were stuck with obscure EU ships and a trickle of new content ships.

    @fritz a very simple way that they could have expanded the game using the same Miniatures was to make a ground base epic Star Wars Legion game where you would have had mass armies going against each other, just using the X-Wing game system. Tell me that wouldn't have sold a million copies?

    It's a shame that FFG got greedy and brought out the 2.0 sets. That was the beginning of the end, splitting the fanbase is never a good idea...

    • @timunderbakke8756
      @timunderbakke8756 5 месяцев назад +1

      It wasn’t about greed. It was the case of “why are no iconic ships on the table anymore” and they needed a way to rebalance the lot.

    • @Wolf359inc
      @Wolf359inc 5 месяцев назад +1

      I humbly disagree, OP. 1.0 had become increasingly unbalanced, and bloated. It still worked, but a revision was needed. I think I actually prefer the 2.0 rules. That said, I just want my three no-name K-wings to be able to pack a bunch of Cluster Mines, drop them in front of my opponent, before he moves, then Slam behind them, in one turn, again… *sigh* Good times… 😂
