In this video join me (and Joli) for a super long 2 hour plant chores video! I imported some plants recently and they've not all acclimated as planned, so some major plant rehabilitation is in order. There have been lots of plant to do's recently - repotting, watering, dusting, pruning, propagating, repotting, potting up and soooo much more. My plant chores have been getting on top slightly recently and I've been feeling a bit burnt out and overwhelmed by all my plant care. I talk about plant burnout in this video, and some of the things I do to stay motivated when it comes to caring for my houseplants. I think that's a great way to sum it up! Just a time lapse also wouldn't cut it for me but the feeling of doing something "together" makes me way more invested than talking about it

Hey Claire! 💚 90% of the time, I put your long form videos on and do houseplant stuff with you 🥰 but sometimes I watch them while I’m cooking too, it’s just great ambient, getting stuff done content! I love it!
💚💚💚 I watch your videos while working from home so I have a lot of time to sit and listen!
Each type of video has its own purpose. Long form is super for motivating me to get some plant chores done. I watered and removed all the dry bits from the plants in my front two rooms. 20-30min informative videos are great for the commute home when I cannot watch. 20-30 min videos that require watching, such as unboxing or top xxx lists are great for winding down at the end of the day.
I love to work on my plants on the floor, as well. It just adds to the grounding effect, I think. Thanks for all you do!
In regards to cleaning things, I’m one of those people that sterilises everything between use. Just a combo of being in a science degree that requires sterilisation and also having severe OCD (best career idea, I know!), I have to clean everything between plants. Nothing gets cross-contaminated at all.
It does sound overboard, I know, but OCD gonna OCD, yo.

I like the longer format. It's hot in Aus now and unpleasant being outside gardening. So I watch these Sat morning and do indoor plant things, cooking, cleaning etc. Usually I do things I've been procrastinating on and frequently have ideas I'd not considered before.
Claire, your plant house tour is the video that really encouraged me to start off my planty journey! I think I watched it 5 times in a row at that time, and I still come back to it to this day, because I find such great confort in watching it. I would love for you to do an updated version, I.m sure it's a lot of work but I reckon it will be worth it 🥰

Eeeep I feel so passionate about this:
I have always scraped off the outer layer to reveal the underlying corm, and I have had a 100% success rate with my corms in fluval stratum. Covered in a container (much like the one you just cleaned out!) until growth really pops off. I was amazed the first time I tried stratum after years of water, soil, spagnum moss, etc. The time it takes it to sprout growth and roots is shockingly fast. And the plants make an effortless transition to pon once well rooted 😘 Hope that helps! My baby Jacklyn’s are so dang cute!

I’m an artist and I listen to longer, chatty videos when I’m working in my studio. So it’s a 💚 for me. I do also like tutorials (I’m trying to become a better plant parent) but I like those to be short and to the point without any extra stuff.

Just in case you’re curious, you’ll find the gigas appears and even grows much like the melanochrysum as its a hybrid of that plant, I think it’s other parent is verrucosum.
So generally they’re much easier to own yet keep the appeal of the melanochrysum. This may also explain the ease of rooting them as Melanos are on the whole easy to propogate but a pain to size up.
Hi Claire! When I sprout corms I pick that brown stuff off. Unless the corms from the Jacklyn are in fact black. But usually they have the brown membrane and I scrape it off. I’ve sprouted corms that small before! You can too! Love you and your channel! Xoxoxo from Florida!
I agree, I thing corms grow these to protect themselves from damage. I have grown corms like that even without pealing the stuff off
Same. I had a A.J. corm in sphagnum moss for months doing absolutely nothing and I was about to give up on it. But I decided to peel off the brown membrane and within a few weeks it had started sprouting!
Never thought a smaller corm couldn't be viable. It will just probably produce a small leaf to start with and need some attention but totally doable

Hi Claire, I am not discounting the comments about changing your clothes after handling plants that have pests, but I just can't see it. Hand washing after handling a plant with a pest and also trying to keep your plants spaced apart is a big help. I'm sure it is difficult with large collections. I totally enjoyed this video!!! ❤❤❤
Re. Transferring pests from plant to plant, consider your scrunched on your wrist as that would’ve been closer to the plants and also goes in and out of substrate bags…
I’ve been quietly watching and going through nearly all your content “binging” 😂 and I have to say your content is fun, genuine and realistic. Love watching you and sometimes you make me lol 😂 keep doing what you’re doing and keeping it real for us all.. I watch a lot of content creators and it’s really nice to be able to share real life situations.. without all the perfect green leafage.. not sure if that makes sense! It does to me ❤
I can relate to the plants in one spot where you see them regularly to remember to care for them. I was just telling my boyfriend that I feel silly having all of mine in front of one window because it’s the only one that isn’t shaded in my house and I can’t remember to water them when I need to and not forget any of them.
About the tortum, mine was doing exactly the same. It was creating nice big leaves in the summer and then in the autumn this started. I chopped it but it kept doing the same. So, I think it just wants more light. I moved it closer to the west facing window recently and keeping an eye on it if it gets better. Hopefully that solves it! Going towards the brighter days anyways 😊🌱

57:43 I have done the same thing. I’m potting up duplicates, relocating the plants I don’t love as much to the garden, and just focusing on the plants I love the most.
I like the long content, I’m usually doing plant stuff or cooking.

I don't sterilize pots but I wash them out maybe with hot water if they had pests. I just make sure all the dirt is out. If they are just getting up potted sometimes I just rub the dirt out and reuse it.

Hi Claire, my Frosted Heart came from rescue shelf in a supermarket. I cut it, the bottom part is in an aroid mix and the upper part rooted in semi-hydro and that part is doing much much better. My plant care is a bit spontaneous, for example today (saturday) I started to water and transferring into semi-hydro my alocasias at 6.00 a.m. 😀 No plan at all. I am definitely for option of long plant chores videos 💚💚💚
I see you have a lot going on in your life, plants, your boyfriend moving in and he is working at home, and trying to maintain everything in the house. You need to take a step back and evaluate life and see what it is that is getting you upset and overwhelmed. I was married to a man with ADHD and his normal routine was fine but if something new entered the picture, he would be stressed, and burned out from things, so something in your life is too much from your normal routine. I hope you find your way. - I love your channel and enjoy watching you.

I’ve done corms that small before. I put them in moss in the tiniest little condiments container and it took about 4 full months for them to start to sprout. But they did!! And they look wonderful.
💚Also i like not just plants that you do that we see. Like seeing you walking your dog and a glimpse of skincare and comic con and plant swaps. I love watching daily peoples lives too. Like thrifting, cooking etc.

Love your videos and love your apartment! Ive kept plants for over 30 years, went to school for it, and used ro manage a retail greenhouse years ago (I was all about the tropicals... I like to garden, but I resented the bedding plants for taking up space in the green house in the spring. Lol). In my experience, spidermites normally hit when a plant is stressed. You may always have a spider mite or two that the plant can keep under control on its own and you wont get a massive infestarion and see the damage.... Until the plant is stressed-- too much light, too dry, too wet, too dark-- and the mites take over. This also tends to be true of thrips. Aphids will attack anything, usually when in flower (like a hibiscus or cape primrose) and come in on plants kept outside or make their own way in. Mealy bugs are harder to pin. I have seen them on the healthiest of plants... Im in America and had a pesticide license (when I worked at the Greenhouse) and would bug bomb on a schedule (which now I feel is bad practice, but that was years ago) but never noticed any transfer of cooties from the greenhouse to my home on my clothes (Ive always kept lots of plants at home)-- but if you keep plants outside, scan them carefully for cooties when you bring them in because that was always the largest source of bug infection.

💚 I absolutely love long videos like this. If there's a shorter video, I often feel like it goes forward too quickly and I need to watch again to catch something I missed... I feel like nowadays quick and short content is so popular that I feel like I'm in the minority with liking very long and relatively calm videos! I won't even do anything while watching, I'm just enjoying every bit of planty content with the people I like (like you). I watch these while I'm relaxing on the sofa or when I'm eating breakfast, dinner of evening snack☕🥪
It was so funny that you mentioned other youtubers' sun rooms and I follow them all! The world is so small. I'm too dreaming of my next home and I hope it will be a proper house with extra rooms for both my and my husband's hobbies. I want a plant room that can have some mess on the tables and my husband needs an office for his work and also for his many instruments and music studio equipment... I'm currently expecting a baby so soon we need a room for him/her too. Now we don't have an extra bedroom here in our apartment but I think a baby doesn't need own room for a long time... This year I need to downsize my plant collection so that I don't have as much chores, but that's not fun! I love growing vegetables on my balcony but this summer I probably can't carry as much water there as before😬 I would like to grow as much as before because eating your own vegetables is so fun and healthy.

I have 2 chiapense, frosted heart and variegated. I grow them both in soil. The frosted heart is in my cabinet because it's rehabbing. The other is in room conditions and does great.

I've grown an alocasia Jacklyn from a corm in fluval stratum. I'm fairly new to plants but I bought the mother from Walmart and it died almost immediately from rot. I managed to find one corm and luckily it's doing ok. Just finished it's 3rd leaf but the original died. It's in a closed bin with a bunch of other Polly and pink dragon corms.
Mine was pretty small and I just scraped off the dark coating.
For the alocasia jackolyn corms I’ve peeled them so they dark hard shell is all gone and then put them on a paper towel and only misted with a bit of water and put on top of a heat mat so it creates a little greenhouse effect for them and all mine sprouted well ☺️

I’ve started to sieve my pon & perlite when new & dry, saving the dust & using it in my succulent soil, so far so good! No dust down the drain & plants seem to like it. X

I just put my frosted heart on the moss pole, 4” plastic D shaped one that’s 24” tall. It has two growth points growing well but it’s only just been put on the pole about 3 days ago. It’s biggest leaf is 4-4 1/2”

💚 i absolutely love the longer videos. I usually start watching them in bed and then I get excited to do plant care as well and pause the video. After a while i continue to watch the video and catch myself looking at my collection and finding new things to do so I pause again and start all over. It truly does feel like we’re doing it together 😊🥰
I wouldn't change clothes unless it was a thrips situation. I used to be a plant merchandiser. It was the best job, loving plants as I do. I have over 300 plants and the burn out was terrible. My health wasn't good so my husband told me to stay home and not work. This past year I have a better hold on my plants and a new refreshing feeling to getting them back to where they should be. They were suffering as I was. New year new outlook. Watching your videos again and feeling inspired.💚🙂
It really depends on how I’m feeling. Sometimes I’ll be repotting/watering, and other times I’m drinking my coffee on the couch with my dog watching.💚🌞

I also have a frosted heart and it’s been a pretty easy going plant. I put it on a coir pole but I’m thinking of moving it to a sphagnum moss pole. I did chop it to prop the top and then plant back into the pot when I first got it and it’s taking forever to root up. :/

I like using beach wood or pretty warped branches and sticks as hoya trellises, I feel the natural curves help me and the plant know where to go - a new discovery coming out of burnout - paused my own plant chores to write that I also enjoy watching someone do something similar to me while I work, esp with plants it provides a lot of inspiration

I’ve sprouted Jacklyn corms smaller than those so i think you should be fine. It worried me because they were darker then other Alocasia corks and I thought they would rot but they didn’t. I peeled the outer layer though.

I tell myself I can't watch your long videos until I'm doing plant chores myself (even though I want to watch right away). Love your videos!! Concerning the change of clothes with spider mites: no I wouldn't. Should I? Yes. I work in a laboratory in a different town, and one day I was working with a microscope under semi sterile conditions. And suddenly there was a spider mite crawling on my sample.. it crawled from my hair onto my lab coat into the sterile flowhood onto my sample..i worked with my plants the day before!

Hi Claire, I was just watching you try and find a big heavy pot for your splendid just a suggestion I bought one of those drillbits the other day for drilling holes in ceramic or anything like that. I absolutely love it you can put drainage holes in any pot and then you can plant directly into that pot and don’t have to use a cover pot if that makes sense
I put my chiapense in pot to acclimate and it is so happy. Then you can just skip the moss. I so dislike removing moss from roots!
