If so, do you offer a AWS SA boot camp?
      Thank you

Actually yes, we have something in common, I am an intermediate or say Junior Software Engineer. In my development Team I have the least years of experience which is about 2/3years. For some reason this led me into DevOps, currenrly taking learnings for Kubernetes from your playlist. You have been helpful to me on my DevOps journey. I will like to connect with you.

So cool! I made somewhat similar transition at some point in 2016 at 34, - from the marketing field (Head of Marketing) to the tech industry, but as a front-end engineer (after passed a software testing bootcamp and got disappointed, still risked to take the next bootcamp course on frontend). Though my pre-conditions/circumstances were somewhat different, as I had to leave my home region bcs of the war in 2014 and was pondering over a new profession that would be relevant anywhere in the world if the war would spread across the entire country and I would have to leave Ukraine at all.
Currently, 8+ years later, I'm trying to shift from the IC role to the software engineering manager one. I only wish I had started with the backend dev in the first place. :) Still suffering from the imposter syndrome regardless of years of experience.
Thank you for your super valuable content!

I am working as as a software engineer. My background is mechanical engineering. Although I'm good at my work, I struggle with few things because I don't understand inner working of a computer properly. For example I don't understand why file descriptor is a precious resource and we have to give back to operating system after making changes. This is where formal education of computer science degree is helpful is what I think.

Really interesting to hear this story. I've been a developer for 30 years now. I still get imposter syndrome on every new project and I always say 'it's too complicated and I will never understand it', but of course I do... eventually. In the early days, we didn't even have any devops or even source control. Once my code had gone to QA, that was the end point for me. I had no knowledge of how it actually got out to customers.

I would disagree with the formal education part. Especially in some countries a university degree is a must to bypass the HR department to get a job. I have a college who got a job in IT without a degree but it's much harder he had to take all kinds of test before getting the job meanwhile I got the same job easily because of my degree.

The more natural road to CI/CD is from automation test engineer to devOps, like me for example.
I don't trust any developer with a devOps role for a very simple reason. Devs don't know advanced testing principles, the most you can get out out of them is unit test and even those are shaky at best from what i've seem.
Software testers progress more naturally into devOps roles because they already know ISTQB, the levels of testing, techniques of testing, testing types, etc so when you use tools like Jenkins for example and you schedule jobs (anything that is automation implemented is a job in Jenkins for those who are unfamiliar )for testing, it will be alot easier for you to understand the shift left culture of CI/CD.

I swear you don't need it here in the usa.
you need practical knowlege and solving problem.
all the courses you are doing in school are not all needing for the real world.
I am not saying school is important but at the end of the day , it is all about having a skills.
go for school but after your bachelor , please stop and start working because this is where the experience actually syncs.

@@gabrielfono844 Skills are important especially in IT but what many don't understand or miss out on is that in bigger multinational companies or especially banks and government sector really requires you to have a overall well organized profile with good academic background and skills one thing I don't like about this videos is that they simply ignore the view from a broader spectrum and misguide others what's even worse is that many of this so called "Software Engineers" think that by being able to build one or two websites or apps is all that is required to call yourself an engineer which is absolutely wrong there's a reason why computer science is among one of the most in demand degrees and in the long run having a degree really helps a lot not just to get a job but also broadens your knowledge.

    • @gabrielfono844

@@brocklesnar7269 remember most people who start a software companies didn't have all that academic you are talking.
They are surroundings by others folks and investors to help them on their journey.

Elon musk don't have a cs degree but it build the first payment infrastructure called zip2.
Most tech founder in silicon Valley dont have degree.
They were driving by their passion.
I do agree with you with degree but remember all are about solving problem that make human life easily.

Everyone who successfully switched careers did not do so my merely desiring or wishing it. Hard work will help upto a some point but always there has been the role of either a company or some individual somewhere who has opened the doors to get the hands on experience and training to make that switch. In this video itself, she with marketing background says she got offered a technical internship without any background knowledge, how many people in this world get that kind of opportunity , very rarely. It's almost like winning the lottery. Its just not possible to only self study , do projects, apply and hope that you will get the interview because most of the time when applying to jobs, there will be restrictions in place like requirement of atleast a bachelors degree or certification in some tools. The company almost always rejects with the reason that they went ahead with candidates whose background aligns with the position.

I moved away from software development to devops two years ago and I’ve been working as a devops engineer since then. I feel I wanna go back to app development. I feel more satisfied when I do programming rather than just delivering what other developers made… however, devops jobs pay much better than app development, at least in my region .. what should I do ?

completely agree about higher ed, theres no need for it unless you want to be an actual computer scientist and work on really low level problems, and even then I'd say a degree in electrical engineer would do you better for most situations. I'm 30, have no degree and am in the top 10% of earners in my entire state (USA) with only about 6 years of accumulative IT/programming experience. All it takes is hard work and a genuine interest to learn about tech and be a problem solver.

Thanks for sharing your experience Mark. Congrats for achieving that 👏 and I totally agree that it takes hard work, but in contrast to many other professions pays off tremendously. That's why I always say invest in your IT education :)
