- Here is my play by play breakdown of a high level match between belial (belial) and monster (siegfried) in the new fighter granblue fantasy versus rising.

Oof that was _filthy_ combo. Not as filthy what Avatar Belial can do, but still nasty. Makes me think Belial (both of them) are so far perhaps the best counter-picks against Nier - and maybe Seox, since he's got tons of safe-on-block moves; normals and specials. Seen Seox pull off some really, really nasty mind-games. The devs have denied of having any plans on buffing or nerfing any of the characters at this time, but I bet after EVO there's going to be some changes to Nier - her doll's combo hits not being counted as part of Nier's combo limit because the doll is "technically" a projectile allows her to do insane damage without having to sacrifice any meter to dish it out. Also, have to agree with Gloppieg - this format is really, really good at showing us the match breakdown. Wouldn't mind watching more videos like this.
tell me more about why you think normal belial is a nier counterpick? I can see parry to stop puppet stuff but not sure about much else that sets him apart from the rest of the cast in this case
@@vund3r Okay - so the reason why I see Belial (Avatar Belial) as counter pick against Nier is three fold.
One, is the reasons he's the one I've had most success against a dedicated Nier player who is currently in the upper S-tier ranked in Europe.
Two, thanks to his counter - although useful against her doll, the primary goal is not to deal damage with it (although it is nice when it does occur) but to get close to Nier herself - I can get within close range to put the screws (pressure) on her and force her to make a mistake that can open her up for the really nasty combos Belial has. To open her up I try to pressure her with Belial's frame-trap 66L and if she tries to punish me after blocking it, I'll answer to it with 5M auto-combo and go from there.
Three, Avatar Belial has a lot more variety in his teleportation arsenal, which makes getting close to Nier a lot easier than the regular Belial - but his main bread and butter is getting Nier's back against the wall and start dishing out your special combos; I'm talking about the ones that allow you to extend your combo limit above the norm via sacrificing his health, which is his less known mechanic.
My friend, who is really, really good at playing Nier, is capable of spotting my attempts however, due to us having played so much against one another that we can pretty much tell what the other is thinking just from few tells - so the success is pretty much 50/50 right now. Nier has monstrous combo potential due to her doll, as the doll's combo hits do not add to the combo-limit any of the other characters in the game has because the game views the doll as projectile - hence the oftentimes insane damage she does. My friend does not even need to get me against the wall to get half of my health by juggling me in the air and finishing it all with a Super (the down-up purple beam torrent she does).
Any Nier player (and I do believe there is quite a few by now) who knows this combo is going to make playing against her a nightmare until they nerf her - if they ever nerf her - and preferably by adding her doll's combos into the combo-limit of the character itself. I doubt they'll fix her until after Tokyo EVO 2024, but a man can hope. That way she'd be a lot less bullshit-tier choice at the tournament, where I'm sure I'll be facing quite a few players who have her as their top pick.
There's four months 'till Tokyo EVO, so they just might make some changes to her, but as I said above - I seriously doubt they'll have the developers will have the balls to do it. And if they do, they'll probably just ruin her, as per usual.
belial is like a combination of carmine and terumi, both are my favourite characters in a two different fighting games.
For me its like what if you had a shoto then added sugar, spice and accidentally threw in chemical x. With command grabs, a full screen parry, fireball mixups and every move oozing style.
Reminds me more of jedah(darkstalkers) and terumi in my opinion.

Really helpful video i didnt know about the unblockable set up. But if its okay with you could you pls mute the character voice next time?
alright gonna do that for next week's vid. Was trying the setup in training mode. Seems hard to land it consistently or just the 214h juggle with 623l in general. The Belial in the video might have whiffed it around 2 times actually.
@@vund3ryou have to time the 5L extremely early and the Lxx has to be cancelled super early for it to work
@@Peraliq yup grinded it out in practice mode until I did a guard crush loop that killed from full HP. Might cover it in some belial focused vids in the future.
