Solid review as usual! Even when I don’t like the records I always enjoy your breakdowns. And one recent record that yous rated pretty high and that I would label as “unlistenable”, I still listened to the breakdown on Apple podcast and watched the vid on here.
This record I love. Lots of real instruments and they brought in a choir, both depressingly underused elements nowadays. The Auto tune/Melodyne/ pitch “correcting” isn’t on overload; still too much, but it doesn’t keep me from being able to listen to the whole record in one sitting.
The Flo Milli & Khruangbin features were fantastic. Kamasi Washington is playing sax on a couple of songs and I wished it had been listed as a feature.
Fair points on Real Love, Can You Feel Me & Running Around. I’m mixed on Real Love as it reminds me of an old “boy band” type of sound. One of the good boy* bands though, like NE, NKOTB or BB. I don’t like Running Around much at all. It feels too much like that fake a$s, USA, 90’s/00’s “pop punk” crap. If he wants to do a punk song, keep it real. Pop punk:oxymoron.
*yes, I realize some people will say there is no such thing, but, as a great man once said, “lighten up Francis!”. 👹
