  • In this video, we're taking you behind the scenes of a local foundry where biscuit machine dies are cast using a traditional sand-casting process. First, molten metal is heated to extremely high temperatures in a furnace until it reaches a liquid state. Next, molds are created for the desired pieces, and sand is packed tightly around a central cavity that mirrors the shape of the final product. This cavity is where the liquid metal will eventually fill.
Once the molds are prepared, the molten metal is carefully poured into the sand-filled cavity, allowing it to solidify and take the shape of the desired piece. After a sufficient cooling period, the mold is opened, and the newly formed metal piece is removed and cleaned.
The piece then undergoes a process called shot blasting, where it's bombarded with a high-pressure stream of abrasive particles (likely steel shot or sand) to remove any remaining sand or impurities from the surface. This process helps to smooth out the surface and prepare the piece for further finishing.
Finally, the piece is subjected to finishing processes to remove any remaining imperfections, leaving it ready for use in biscuit machines.
