    Absolute garbage if we’re being completely honest. Just had to factory reset my PC and now will have to manually reinstall and reactivate every app I was using. Forget the countless important files I for sure lost due to a Windows update fault.
    How about getting the user to be aware of this security key and to have them save it somewhere when they FIRST set up their device instead of them being unable to locate something they never set up themselves to begin with.
    and looking around online, this exact issue has been around as early as /018 from what I could find.
    Unbelievable

    I know that I kept the recovery key, but where, that i dont know. For normal user those do nothing, they won't have any problem right now. But when device gets old, and need to do boot up, then it might mess up, if bitlocker key was change in sometime.

      Hi, there! We appreciate your comment. We're truly sorry to hear about your loss. Losing access to your laptop due to a missing BitLocker recovery key can be distressing. Let’s work together to explore some potential solutions.
      We want to set your expectation that Microsoft support cannot recreate a lost BitLocker recovery key. Kindly provide us the additional details for us to further isolate your concern:
      1. What is the specific error message that appears when you attempt to log in to your account on msft.it/6053cAgeD?
      2. Did you search through your important papers or files related to your computer? The key might be there.
      3. Have you saved the key as a text file on a USB flash drive, plug it into your locked laptop?
      4. Are you using a personal, school, work, or business Microsoft account?
      5. Have you tried to check your BitLocker recovery key by using this link: msft.it/6054cAgeE
      6. How did you obtain your laptop? Was it bought from an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) or secondhand from a retailer or reseller?
      Please remember not to provide any sensitive information such as your date of birth, gamertag, credit card number, password, full name or email address to anyone, including us, or post it publicly for security and privacy reasons. Thank you.
      We look forward to your response.

      2. Have you checked your important documents or computer-related files? The recovery key might be there.
      3. Did you save the key as a text file on a USB flash drive? If so, try plugging it into your locked laptop.
      4. Is your Microsoft account personal, school, work, or business-related?
      5. How did you acquire your laptop? Was it purchased directly from an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or obtained secondhand from a retailer or reseller?

    I have no recollection of creating a bitlocker encryption, and recently my laptop had to replace C drive to a bigger storage and now my D drive with all my important documents is locked and needs a Bitlocker Recovery key. I followed the steps in this video but the page shows an error and told me “to try a different link”. I have already tried using multiple devices to access my Bitlocker key, but still does not work. This feature is very inconvenient to non tech-savvy people like myself and I am desperate to find any solution to this issue.

      Hi, Steve. Your comments about BitLocker caught our attention, and we'd like to apologize for not answering sooner.
      It appears that your PC is currently being asked for BitLocker recovery key, and you wanted to know how to unlock it from Command Prompt. Allow us to help regarding this matter.
      To give you an insight, BitLocker is the Windows encryption technology that protects your data from unauthorized access by encrypting your drive and requiring one or more factors of authentication before it will unlock it. This may happen if you make changes in hardware, firmware, or software that BitLocker cannot distinguish from a possible attack. In these cases, BitLocker may require the extra security of the recovery key even if the user is an authorized owner of the device. This is to be certain that the person trying to unlock the data really is authorized.
      May we know if you already checked your Microsoft account online for your BitLocker recovery key?
      We'll wait for your reply.

Your BitLocker recovery key is a unique 48-digit numerical password that can be used to unlock your system. Aside from your Microsoft account, there are several places that your recovery key may be, depending on the type of sign-in to Windows.
      The following are the only places where a key can be located.
      * Saved to a Microsoft Account (MSA)
      * Saved to Azure AD
      * Saved to Active Directory
      * Printed (physically or in a pdf)
      * Saved to a file
      We hope that everything will be sorted out the soonest. Feel free to get back to us.

      Hi! Thank you for reaching out, and we apologize for the delayed response. We understand that you need assistance to open your D drive as you lost the BitLocker recovery key, and you're having an issue logging into your Microsoft account as it got blocked. Rest assured that we'll do our best to help.
      To give you some insight, Windows will require a BitLocker recovery key when it detects an insecure condition that may be an unauthorized attempt to access data on the drive. This extra step is a security precaution intended to keep the data safe and secure. Some changes in hardware, firmware, or software can affect the secure boot process, triggering BitLocker Device Encryption to lock, protecting the device, and prompting the customer for a decryption key. We'd like to take a closer look into this, so we can assist you accordingly.
      • Is it a company or personal device?
      • Were you asked a BitLocker key when you turn on your device or open your D drive?
      • Any changes made to the device before the issue started?
      • Which Windows version is installed on your device?
      • How did you obtain your device? Was it bought from an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) or pre-owned from a retailer or reseller?
      • Regarding your Microsoft account where your BitLocker key might be saved, can you type in the exact error message showing that it's blocked?
      • Do you have any security information linked to the account, such as a phone number or email address? Do you still have access to them?
      • Is two-step verification enabled?
      • May we know if you have already tried filling out the account recovery form? If yes, what was the result? This will help us focus on things that he hasn't tried yet.
      We'll wait for your response.

      Hello there, Sanowar. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We appreciate your patience and effort in this matter, as the wait for the code will undoubtedly test your patience, and we are certain that this is not the experience we want you to have. Let's see what we can do together to solve this.
      Your response was directed to our post about locating your BitLocker recovery key, which can be linked to one of your email accounts (personal, work, or school) and used when the device is first set up. You mentioned that you didn't receive any code when attempting to log in; does this mean that the account you're trying to access requires a security code to be sent to one of your security information, such as your recovery email address or phone number, in order for you to log in successfully?
      If this is the case, the server's verification message may be delayed due to poor network reception, the carrier's network being unavailable, or an intermittent internet connection. To best assist you, we'd like to confirm the following information:
      1. Which option you've selected to receive a code? Is it your registered recovery email address or mobile number/phone number?
      2. Were you able to ensure that you selected an accessible piece of security information or entered it correctly when required in order to receive a security code?
      3. Is the @accountprotection.microsoft.com domain already marked as a trusted sender (if you used your recovery email address to receive a code), and is the Microsoft sender not blocked to your mobile number (if you chose to receive your code via text message)?
      4. Have you checked to see if the device you access your security information has a stable internet connection or signal reception to receive your code?
      We'll wait for your response. Thank you. -Gen

      Hello, Sedoku. Thank you for contacting us. We know that you want to regain access to your account. However, updating your security information may take up to 30 days. Allow us to help you sort this out.
      We won't be able to speed up the 30-day process unless you cancel the request.
      When all security information is removed from a Microsoft account, the account is restricted for 30 days.
      While we understand that this 30-day period may be inconvenient, it is necessary to protect and alert you in the event that the security information was removed by someone with unauthorized access to your account.
      During the 30-day period, we will send notifications to the original security information, which could be a phone number or an email address. These notifications are sent to notify you that changes to your security information have been made.
      Regards.
