Awesome collection, I still have all my cards :D 16 years later and I finally found out how to play the game. That art work on the VHS Mewtwo is the stuff of nightmares.
heres my story: i was in a bookstore once with my parents, and while they were watching books, i just stared blindly at the pokemon box with a bunch of booster packs. i took out a 5 dollar bill and purchased one. it was a venusaur pack. after removing the cards from the pack i started browsing them, and there, as the 4th card, was MOTHERFUCKING CHARIZARD. in my first ever pokemon TCG purchase, i got THE most rare card. for the rest of my school years, i was the only kid with such card.
Imposter Professor Oak was actually going to happen in the early prototypes of Pokemon Gold and Silver. They decided to drop him though. Also, the prototype has a pre-evolution for Meowth that got cancelled.
I never had play mat or counters. We used old aluminium change for that. But Pokémon lost it's luster when I grew up and Magic the Gathering looked more "adult". There also were now forgotten and short-lived LotR card game and Warhammer 40k card game. I was really broke most of my teens because of this influx of CCGs...
I used to love this game when I was younger. I never really collected the cards but I played them to death. My favorite was a stall deck containing three Mewtwos with the damage swap ability and a bunch of Chansies on my bench. My Mewtwo would just take damage and move the counters onto my benched Chansies instead. When it looked like they were about to faint, I'd throw down a Pokemon Center and heal them. Rinse repeat until my opponent ran out of cards. That strategy is all too easy to break now, but I remember pissing off a lot of kids in school.
I have the complete first set as well ! In french though, since I live in France ahah. My brother started collecting them as soon as they were out there in the late 90s when he was 4. My mom used to buy them in Luxembourg and Germany because back then we lived right next to the German border, also it used to be cheaper when France was still using Francs and we converted it to euros (or idr if germany still had deutsche marks at this point?)
First kind of cards I collected. I do still have them in a folderbook. One big regret is trading my super Nidoqueen for a Dewgong. What was I thinking. I did go to Yugioh for a bit but only playing with my friends. I don´t like the pro aspect of it all. I play with what I like and what I am (have the luck to get). Duelmasters was actually the most balanced trading card game out there. Nothing was overpowered and you could take basically any cards from any set and you whould still get a functional deck that was´t relayed on you having 4 copies of the same card. I bought like 8 packs with 10 cards each and build a functional deck. There are 5 types so the deck was build with 3 types and I faced someone who had bought dozens of bosterpacks and tried as a pro building his deck with a plan and one type of cards. But my deck still won easily and I just played straight. No planing, no deck manipulation. Sadly because of that it was´t very popular and I mostly played with my friends.
Nice collection and more complete than what I have, which is currently in a folder in a box somewhere. But the older designs do look more interesting than the newer ones, especially when it looks like they used a different art style all together
***** it looks like they got theyr consistant pokemon card art style around gen 3 and that cgi they use 4 some cards so the older cards really sticks out for that reason
Pity that I don't have the original starter deck anymore. I only have it in parts - there are a few cards that disappeared under my wardrobe or my bed. One was found again when my bed was replaced but by that time the rest of the set had already been stored away on the attic so my mother threw that single useless card away.
The vhs copy of the first movie? So THATS where I got my mewtwo! XD I was so young at the time I barely remembered. I am so glad I took good care of my old pokemon card collection. Except for when I got like 30 Clamperls. I remember getting aggressively frustrated at that predicament.
My favorite old sets were The Rocket Sets and the Gym challenge/Gym Heroes set. I wish they would re-release those sets. I'm too poor to pay $500+ for a booster box. Lol
Do you accept gifts of Meowth cards? I used to play the TCG in a pretty serious capacity and I probably have some weird newer ones laying around somewhere.
Damn Beedrill always messing everything up with his non-holo lookin ass, back then, it was him, Butterfree, & Gollum that made it to the 3rd evolution with no holo. Always found that interesting for some reason, I’m sure nowadays they probably have several holographic versions of themselves.
I'm ambivalent to the art in newer versus older ones. Generally I just like it when the art is different from the ordinary official "clean" style and much prefer it when it's something that looks like it was painted or done in another traditional medium. (I didn't like the early CGI ones all that well though, since I think they just look cheap.)
Holy crap! I have the 300$ charizard! I assumed all my cards were worth 3 cents and a button. Also I apparently have almost every original holo. I never even knew...
I never had pokemon cards as a kid.....my parents only bought me stuff under 10 ron a pokemon booster pack was 23 ron Now i only have six cards....a holo torchic a holo vulpix a holo fenneckin a clawcher a monferno and a litleo Im so sad
Man, I remember trying to trade for a Pikachu. But no one would ever give trade it to me! ~ Eventually they banned the game from my Elementary, and when I got older I moved to Yu-Gi-Oh!.
pokemon sure does things a lot more simple than yugioh with the symbols for rarity instead of rainbow letters, silver letters, gold letters, the pattern of the holos, blah blah blah and i have no idea what any of it means honestly. also does being holographic actually have an effect in pokemon? in yugioh it dosn't mean anything but some people like doing their entire deck only in holo versions and i like to get the holo version of my favorites just cuz they're pretty :B also i like all the "it doesn't work like that in the game" comments here cuz in ygo land it's "it doesn't work like that in the anime/manga" all the time and then people accuse the anime characters of cheating because they don't realize the irl card game is made by some other company/not the same/etc. my friends and i actually ignored the card text irl in some cases and played it how it worked in the anime because the irl version weakened some of the anime's best cards and took all the fun out of having them like especially the god card ra and crush card virus and for the old art/new art thing i always preferred having the picture that was actually used in the anime over the alternate variations and they were usually harder to get a hold of until the 20 year anniversary sets came out
Imposter Professor Oak was in the manga, where he's a disguised Alakazam. Really.

10:08 Fossil Slowpoke was actually recently reprinted in the new Generations set of the card game.
Great collection! I never was into the card game but I loved the anime
I miss the old glass counters. I use to toss the cardboard ones and go out and buy similar decorative glass beads from the dollar store.
I have some of my old Pokémon cards left. I've always wondered how much my Giovanni's Machamp hollow/sparkly/whatever card was worth. XP
Yay! Phelous is a fellow Meowth fan! :D
Imposter Professor Oak was actually going to happen in the early prototypes of Pokemon Gold and Silver. They decided to drop him though. Also, the prototype has a pre-evolution for Meowth that got cancelled.
Haha Meowth was my favorite too! I was into Pokemon in the late 90's as well but I didn't collect anything because I was like 3. Lol

Make fun of those energy cards all you want, but you can't deny that the holo energy cards from the Emerald set are pretty sick.
I agree. Also the Golden Special Energy cards of the Current sets are pretty Fire as well
Impostor professor was planed for gold and silver as he can be found in the data of the gold spaceworld demo which can be now played.
When’s the video on Upper Deck baseball expansion?

I had a few Pokémon cards at one point but I remember I collected way more of Yu-Gi-Oh cards. Damn I had a lot.
Phelous I have Pokemon cards and a Pokemon Gameboy game. I also grew up with Pokemon too.
According to Pokken Tournament, Digilett actually is furry.
So the very first Pokemon cards were right.
Well, it's supposed to be a mole, so I wouldn't be surprised. Moles are furry.
a tip: watch movies on Kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using them for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
@Dallas Chandler Definitely, I've been using KaldroStream for years myself :)
@Dallas Chandler yup, I have been using kaldrostream for since december myself =)
@Dallas Chandler Definitely, been watching on kaldroStream for since december myself :D

***** Yeah, I wish they had more art like that these days. The Mario series at least uses some kinda throwback looking art sometimes.
***** it looks like they got theyr consistant pokemon card art style around gen 3 and that cgi they use 4 some cards so the older cards really sticks out for that reason
+Phelan “Phelous” Porteous I have that same Meowth Bottle!
i really miss my old pokemon card collection (they were in storage but now their ruin because of mold)
"OH MY GOD,A WIZARD DID IT!"

Do you accept gifts of Meowth cards? I used to play the TCG in a pretty serious capacity and I probably have some weird newer ones laying around somewhere.
Phalous although you only into Gen 1 atleast you respect the modern stuff

I miss the old watercolored Pokemon designs and fat Pikachu.
Pikachu flips you the bird
