IIRC, the review boiled down to "I'm no good at this kind of game, therefore it sucks."

this genre has a kind of a label for what it is, adjacent to chip style genres, not officially, but still it exists. computer-core: soundtrack music that generally sticks to midi or fairly strict analog programmed sound textures. midi is a flavor. some of the greatest ever was the DKC music by David Wise, and doom's music. now excellently done in both post-metal and computer-core type flavors!
