Jesus, tell me about it. I’m trying to vouch for this car and say that while it’s not a proper Lotus, it’s still a Lotus (just like the Porsche Cayenne isn’t a proper Porsche, but it’s still a Porsche). They ain’t making the job very easy
@@zarbon700 not really. Just look at the Lotus Emira. It’s still designed and built in Hethel. So is the Lotus Evija and the upcoming Type 135. In other words, the true Lotus sports cars are still being built by Brits, and are therefore not Chinese. Also, I’ve said this many times before, Lotus EVs aren’t electric cars. They’re electric *Lotuses.* They come with all of the pros and cons of an EV, but they’re Lotuses in the electric age. The Evija is much lighter than most of its competition, and the Eletre has an aimed weight target of 4,500 kg or some shit (again, Lotus is vague on pricing and specs, and I can’t remember the unit of measurement). Aside from the LiDAR system (which was probably mandated by Lotus’s new Chinese overlords at Geely), Eletre seems to be following the Lotus formula to a tee: simplify and add lightness. The only Lotus that doesn’t seem to be following that formula is shockingly the Emira. I know they wanted to improve their interior quality by a lot, and they did, but that probably meant sacrificing a lot of carbon fiber since the funds for that went into higher quality interior components. But hey, at least it drives like a Lotus
"Who I was will never change"... I very happy to know about that, because I still want a lightweight EV sports car made in Hethel, like you are planning to launch in 2026 in collaboration with Alpine...
@@bag2963 But you know that they're going to launch a lightweight EV sports car in 2026, right? It's called at the moment as Lotus Type 135, and it will be built in collaboration with Alpine...
They tried to make it simple and light for an SUV (aside from the LiDAR system that was probably mandated by the Geely group; if Lotus was in full control of the development of that car, that would have never made it to the final product). Obviously, it isn’t a truly proper Lotus; that role is still filled by the Emira, and soon it will be filled by the electric Elise/Exige, but that doesn’t make it not a Lotus. It’s the simplest and lightest EV SUV in the market (assuming Lotus hits all of their estimated performance numbers) Edit: what I’m trying to say is: I don’t think this car is as bad as most make it out to be (a rather controversial take, but one I firmly believe in). Would this have been Colin Chairman’s first idea? Hell no. But would he have been utterly disgusted and revolted by it? Also no. Again, an SUV would never have been his first choice of car, but seeing how the Eletre was handled, I at least think he would have commanded some deal of respect for the damn thing
@@mrsoisauce9017 Emira is a performance downgrade from the much older Evora 400. The only improvement from the Evora 400 is the interior. Carwow, did a 0 to 60 run, which ended up being 5.3 seconds. Emira is a disappointment on speed and handling. I'm very disappointed in Lotus. I was expecting more from Lotus next-generation and last ICE vehicle. Lotus is noe an EV manufacturing. Lotus is dead.
It’s not a proper Lotus, but it’s still a Lotus. Aside from the probably mandatory LiDAR system, this car makes use of a lot of carbon fiber, which brings the weight of the car down. Additionally, Lotus is aiming for a weight of 4,500 lbs, making it the lightest car in its class. Therefore, Chinese built SUV or not, its still a Lotus. It’s just not a *proper* Lotus; that title still belongs to the Hethel built sports cars (Evija, Emira, the upcoming Type 135/new Elise, every Lotus that came out of Hethel before the new ones)
Not entirely true. The Lotus formula, like many other cat formulas, can be applied to many car tires and body styles. Will they be proper Lotuses? No they won’t. That title still belongs to their small, lightweight sports cars. But will they still be Lotuses? Yes, since they’re still the lightest cars in their class. It’s similar to the Porsche formula of small and fun sports cars. You can take that formula and apply it to many cars (Taycan, Cayenne, Macan, Panamera). They aren’t proper Porsches; that title still belongs to the 911, 718 and their hypercars like the 918. But they’re still Porsches. Besides, Lotus is planning to release an EV sports car (allegedly) under the Elise name (currently codenamed the Type 135) that will be small and light (for an EV). It will be an EV, with all of the ups and downs of an EV. But it will probably be the simplest, lightest EV ever made. Therefore, it is in fact a proper Lotus. As is the Evija and the Emira. The Eletre is not a proper Lotus, but that doesn’t make it not a Lotus. Aside from the LiDAR system (which was probably mandated by the Geely Group Lotus now answers to), the car uses lots of carbon fiber, and Lotus aims for it to be 4,500 kgs or something (I can’t remember the unit used), meaning it’s gonna be much lighter than the Tesla Model X while sharing the same performance figures, which will probably make it a lot faster in the corners, (a quintessential Lotus trait), and that’s my point. It may not be the truest Lotus ever, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a Lotus. If Lotus pulled a Mustang Mach-E or an Eclipse Cross, then that’s a different story (unlike brand names, car names have much more weight to them, since they define a very specific car, so if they fall out of line, then you have tarnished the name), then things would be different. If Lotus made an Exige SUV, then there would be problems, but Eletre is an entirely new name with a clean slate and only the history of the Lotus name to back it up, therefore the Lotus name and its meaning is still intact since the car is the simplest and lightest car in its class
Need to fix following issues immediately, mostly through software update and calibration; 1. Loss of control during launching...a lot of oversteer. Yes the ESC is off but it shouldn't be completely switched off and allowed to intervene to keep the car in a straight line. 2. Poor range....only 50% to 70% of claimed WLTP range is achieved. Averaging just over 2 miles per 1 kwh. 3. No USB A or C ports in the rear passenger area. 4. Enable full stop with one pedal driving in the highest setting.
