This version of "For the Beauty of the Earth" is from the New Century Hymnal.
I've been helping with music for the online services of the church I work at by prerecording songs and putting together these videos so people can sing along from home as we worship from a distance.
Someone commented that singing this lovely traditional hymn (along with this video) was a bit of a race. I agree it's a BIT quick. I was singing it (trying to keep up) so I know. (I only realized after that I sang all FOUR verses in under TWO minutes. Goodness.) Now I wish I'd done it slower! I always tell my dad (playing piano) "not too slow." I'm never really sure how many people are really singing along from home so I don't wanna drag it out. Singing to lead worship (so others can follow along and be engaged) is different from just singing as I like, and I guess I'm still trying to figure out what's best.
HUGE thanks to my dad Richard who I've been getting to play piano for me. The piano keeps it a little more traditional for those traditional folks and it makes it a lot easier for me. Dad doesn't look at any music, just figures it out by ear and plays (sometimes it shows haha)! Pretty amazing.

We need recorded hymns to sing at our church in Virginia. We aren’t aloud to sing in person yet. We’ve had concerns of copyright infringement. This copyright stuff is too much for me to take in. We just want to have a church service, nothing else. We do livestream it to reach those that don’t feel safe coming in person. It is not intended for us to make money. Could we use your video recordings for our hymns?

Hello! I completely understand your situation and I’d be happy to share these hymns! This one in particular should give you no issue with copyright as it’s in the public domain so please go ahead and use it (and others I might have in the public domain). :) If your live-streamed services will also be recorded and saved online, that’s when it could potentially get risky if using any of the other copyrighted songs (your church might wanna get its own copyright license with CCLI in that case). Thanks for asking and I hope this helps! Blessings to you and your church!

Kristen Young thank you. Yes, I’ve read way too much on this copyright infringement. I think I understand it, but I’m not an attorney. I did realize all hymns older than 1925 are public domain. And all hymns have three parts that are copyrighted, therefore, they may be legal by lyrics but not by music. Uggh! Again I was asking for all your recordings, not just the one with the comment. If you have any problem, please let me know. It’s such a blessing that I was led to you.

Jason Bly Ugh I know it’s all so tricky! *I* personally don’t have a problem with your church using any and all of the few hymns I’ve posted (not sure that it’s my permission to give😬) as long as your church is taking whatever precautions are necessary to be ‘safe’ - wouldn’t want you all to be found in violation of copyright!🙏🏼
