I feel the same, thinking how lucky Koreans are just to be able to understand BTS without anything lost in translation. But there's also this other side of me that likes not knowing, i.e., hearing a song without my brain automatically processing the words like it normally would with English. It feels freeing. I've been wanting to learn Korean, but somehow don't want this "unknowingness" to go away either. Still, I wish I could understand the wordplay and just how clever it is, without translation! Hard to explain this conundrum, haha.

That is the result when you dance since 2010 and definitely when you are dancing way before like the former underground hip-hop dancer like J-hope and contemporary dancer Jimin.
Dancing is not an effect or just a concept just like other artists do (though it is not bad), it is their actual profession along with singing and rapping. And as producers, writers, and composers.
Actually, Korean alphabet is pretty simple and easy to learn. It's not like Chinese characters where each symbol represents a word. In Hangul (Korean alphabet), each symbol corresponds to a sound, just like in our alphabet. Then they put it into syllabic blocks. So if you want to spell Jimin, for example, you have ㅈ - j, ㅣ- i, ㅁ - m and ㄴ - n. Jimin has two syllables, so you just put it into two syllabic blocks and you have 지민.
But Korean is definitely difficult for English speakers, since it has little in common with English as far as grammar and vocabulary goes either. When you learn Korean, learning the alphabet is incredibly easy, but that's where the easy part ends 😂.

Korean has borrowed words from Chinese and Japanese, but it is not related to any other Asian language.
Interestingly, for hundreds of years before the Korean phonetic script (Hangul) was invented, Korean was written in Chinese characters. They would either use the ideogram that matched the *meaning* of the Korean word, or they would use characters which *sounded* like a Korean word or part of a word. This made it very difficult to learn.
But it provided all kinds of double meanings for poets, punsters, lyricists, and rappers.
@@amyoconnell3936 I find it kind of cool that they still use some Chinese characters (hanja) for some markings. They don't use it in writing, but some signs and stuff. And learning hanja can actually make learning vocabulary a bit easier - even if it's just the sound and the meaning. But it's a relief that I don't have to learn that for Korean, unlike in Japanese where you'd need some level of kanji for reading.

18:00 the Hangul alphabet (the symbols you were talking about) is actually really easy to learn, it took me around an hour but it’s when you get to learning the grammar and all the honourifics that it starts to get very very complicated 😅especially with how different their structures are to English
True - Korean doesn't consist of "symbols" like Chinese. The letters of the alphabet are used to spell words like in English or most other languages (as opposed to symbol characters where there is a corresponding sound for each "picture"). I was surprised how easy it is to learn the Korean alphabet - but also not really, because I knew it was deliberately designed to be easy (to replace the Chinese characters that Korea used to use a few hundred years ago). The letters are literally just straight lines and circles. Fascinating stuff. :)

As a South African myself, I gravitated to this song because the beat is famiiar . It just remains of SA. The COLOURS in their suits. I t makes me proud to be a South African even though there be A LOT wrong with South Africa too. This song reminds of me of the good things about SA. That was cool, I'm thankful for our own South African reactors...this song is the only flex us South African ARMY have💜...but we'll keep praying for them to come🥺🤣🤣 plus today they went to LA for American music Awards on 21 November, they'll be performing butter with Megan thee stallion and it's their first time being nominated in the main category of "Artist of the year" on AMA, plus their concerts on 28 November in LA.

Also love that you watched David's Explained by a Korean" too - David Kim is part of the team that founded DKDKTV, a channel about Korean media news, and is very bright indeed. Yes his English is excellent. The Just David channel also has other "explained" videos you might like. If you get round to looking at Baepsae, or Paldogangsan, two mainly rap songs, then his explanations of each of those are essential! Bapsae is one of BTS' classics, but Paldogongsan, in which they sing/rap in their home dialects and make fun of each other is probably less well know, but I love it.
And I note you think that idol must have the "most" content of them all? Nah, they are all like this, but yes, they really lay on their cultural references very strongly, because at that time they were being accused of being too American. There have been suggestions that this year's song Butter was also a bit of a sarcastic slap-back against similar accusations, because in Korea, western food is often described as like butter - ie - too bland.

Great reaction and some dancing going on 😊..I enjoyed it. I'm a mum of a teenage girl. We bond and share our love for BTS and their music; and have also now expanded to other kpop groups...their brothers in the company...TXT and Enhypen etc etc.
That's the best part about BTS, you can enjoy them on a light and surface level, or you can dive deep. With the exception of their 3 latest english songs (which were meant to be lighthearted and uplifting during Covid), all of their work has so much depth and symbolism. I am really happy to see you taking a deeper dive. I am not sure if anyone has mentioned it to you, but you might want to check out and react to a RUclips series about the guys called "The Rise of Bangtan". It is a phenomenal series and will teach you more about BTS than anything you have seen yet. I laughed when you said "It's my favourite song of theirs, but I've only reacted to 3"..lol...only about 300 more songs to hear. The best part about that as a BTS reactor, is that you will never run out of material to react to. Thanks for another great reaction.

Genius is good in general for lyrics and meaning, but when it comes to BTS' music we have Doolset which is at least 10 times better (and way more accurate). So doolset is like an ARMY-treasure to understand the songs, because BTS always has at least 2 or more meanings to the song/video. (well except songs like Dynamite and Butter which had the purpose of cheering everyone up during the pandemic, so it was suppose to be straight forward)

I'm glad that one day I was just scrolling through youtube and found BTS song they helped me alot me and my mom were being abused by my stepfather since 7 years and we are still being abused I was even sexually harrassed at the age of 8 but I don't care even if I'm beaten up cuz I live my life thinking that the next morning will bring me some hope I'm 13 and I don't go to school when I was at I left studying because of my stepfather he didn't wanted to let me study so I just used Google to learn English it doesn't matter that I'm bad at English I just wanted to say BTS helped me mentally and physically too I even tried committing suicides but I couldn't because I have BTS and I'm proud to be BTS indian army 🇮🇳

Honestly, there are too many great songs/performances to listen to since they’ve been around since 2013. You can’t go wrong with any of their award show performances, their MV, live performances, performances done during the pandemic. They are all different and all have something special. BTS is their own genre and nothing they do is similar to the next thing they do - although there is a thread. I enjoy/love your enthusiasm and reactions.

I also love their live version they did on Jimmy Fallon... they did it in traditional Hanboks and performed Idol in front of Geunjeongjeon, where kings used to host meetings and receptions with foreign envoys during the Joseon Kingdom. It was built in 1395.
Their live version of "MIKROKOSMOS" was performed at Gyeonghoeru Pavilion at the palace, where royal banquets were held.

The "incident" is a preservative that was spotted by fans at the time, some considered it funny and normal, but others took the chance for critics because idols shouldn't get engaged with women, this is a toxic trait, but we are talking about JinHit here, no one dictates his personal life.
The history of korean language is very interesting. They didn't have their own writing system so they used the chinese characters but this didn't reproduced well the feeling, meaning and nuances of the korean language, so there is this King (I don't remember his name now) that created the language (of course with scholars) in a very practical and scientific way, every character represents the position of the thong when the sound is made.
