Those hellebores and their happy little faces are a encouraging sign of spring. It’s way too early for me to prune in my zone 3/4, but you have motived me to achieve a spring clean win - so I’ve dejunked and tidied under my bathroom sinks. Go team! 👏🏼 PS love today’s orange and grey helpers. 🐈🐈‍⬛🌱

Laura, I am so, so grateful that you post videos on pruning and I hope you never stop. Every year, inevitably, I walk out into my garden and say "Oh, what would Laura do?" Then I go watch your video of the day and there you are pruning hydrangeas. I go back into my garden, do what you did and voila! I just wait for life to flourish once again. My garden looks beautiful and healthy thanks to you! 💐💐💐

Surprise blooms are fun! Imagine my surprise when on Sunday I discovered a dahlia bloom in the basement. In 2022, I had stored a dahlia tuber in a leaf bag with newspaper. It was near a west window and in spring 2023, this bag was missed at planting time. Our basement is cool and pretty dark and not used as living space. On Sunday, in February, I cut a beautiful purple dahlia and brought it upstairs to enjoy in a vase. I still can't believe it. Nature is full of surprises!

Just checked my dahlias planted outside last fall and only saw one bulb exposed but covered it in hopes that squirrels didn't eat the rest. My Pinky Winky hydrangeas grow to 7' most years but I cut blooms for flowers and propagation to 42"-48" every fall so the blooms aren't out of reach the next year

Cleaning up my garden late winter, prepping for spring, used to be one of my favorite moments. Discovering the buds forming, where to prune, it was always such a wonderful time of year. Having that clean and ready to grow look... awesome! And yes, finding bulbs that ate starting to break ground as well as hellebores possibly blooming, that too! Just wondetful! I am growing, cleaning and gardening vicariously 😊

Because we have much colder and snowier winters, I do all my pruning and cleanup in the fall. Spring doesn’t show itself until late April, sometimes beginning of May, so it doesn’t leave time to get everything done in the spring. Love to be able to watch you do your thing in February!

After completing all the sanding, prepping, we got half way around our home painting it and we decided we didn't like the colour and how it looked in the environment of our rural property. There are so many elements you need to take into consideration when untaking this. It's finally now finished after seeking expert advice, and we love it. Good luck with yours.💜

The deer “trimmed” my hydrangeas for me when we had a cold snap in January. I’m surprised. They just ate the dried blooms. They didn’t take them down further than that. I will have to neaten up the stems. They bite and pull so it’s a little jagged.

Got a piece of advice about hydrangea, Lime Lights, and tried that last year. It did work. Mine droop terribly in any rain, once they have blooms. Look awful. So, in the spring you cut them back by at least half. Then you cut out all the smaller branches in the middle. You get smaller blooms, but more of them, and they stand up to the rain. A big difference for me.

All my rock rose Lenten roses started blooming 3 weeks ago and are in full bloom now. Planted 25 of them 3 years ago. I got them off the clearance rack for $3.50 each at Lowe’s in western Washington. Bought 15 more last year to add to the drift. I ended up paying $7.00 1/2 price from Fred Myers because that was the only place I could find the same variety. It is a beautiful dusty pink color with wine colored stems and deep green leaves. Any floppy long stems I just cut out as I see new growth in the center and they keep blooming all the way through late fall. They look great with Autumn Joy sedums.
