Same dude.. I was literally scrolling through a list of RTS games from 1995 onward trying to remember this, spotted Ground Control, and I knew exactly what I was looking for..
@@samvictor6084 same here, for years I though, that game demo I once played around year 1999/2000 (one memorable holidays) was Dark Reign 2, finally after years, I saw old magazine with screenshots, date was june 2000, immidiately knew, there was two games released in that time, I played Dark Reign 2 AND Ground control. I remembered name Ground Control only thanks I saw yesterday that review of Ground Control, with screenshots, otherwise, I would never remembered there was 2 different game actually. This game i've played much longer, than Dark Reign, but it merged into one game in 20 year old memories.
God damn, I don't even remember the last time that I played this game! I know it was in the early 2000s. I suddenly had the urge to find this game and here I am!
exactly. And first accelerator era, I had voodoo2 in that time, and this game was first, I've noticed drops in large combats, and had to decreaase detail. All from 1999 it handled good 800x600 16 bit (glide). Just in mid 2000, because of this game, I knew, my time of voodoo2 is slowly comming to an end. Later Citizen Kabuto and Sacrifice confirmed it, that voodoo2 times ended in 2000. :) Though it was playbale 640x480 16bit, but only when not showing large number of units and terrain. Interesting fact is, that We didnt upgraded even in 2001, to geforce 2, or 3. We suffered a little, and stoped playing new games, but game, that changed my mind and I've upgraded was Morrowind in middle of 2002. We jumped directly to Geforce 4, so skipped 4 generations of graphics. (Riva TNT2, Geforce256, Geforce 2 and Geforce 3) Such powerful was voodoo2. It could hold from 1998 to end of 2001 (with decreased details and 640x480 resolution), and that was era, where new generation was going in half or 3/4 year, and often get +50% or +70% performance from previous generation.
@@Raptor501st you're right. This game, Citizen Kabuto, Sacrifice and HALO, moved it on a new level, from 1999/1998 first accelerated games. Then, another step was Morrowind, but that was 2 years later.
Games took huge leaps between 1993 and 2010. But I think they haven't really improved since then. Graphics have barely moved on, gameplay has got worse in most.
@@chaosapiant Yeah at 2000 the graphics in this game were few heads above of 99.9% of the games. I remember when i was a kid and explore with camera every building and vehicle wondering how damn detailed they are
I've been looking for this game everywhere but I finally found it I used to play this I was a kid it was a tech demo cd plus it reminds me reminds me of Halo wars it would be so cool if they put this on multiple consoles like PS5 Xbox series Nintendo switch👍🤩👍
This is still the only RTS I have ever truly enjoyed. The freedom you had with your camera and how simplistic yet intuitive the UI/gameplay was, was so innovative. Game aged well. I wish I knew how to mod it to max out the draw distance.
I remember those animated portraits in the mission briefing looking realistic as heck. Something that will never get outdated is the music and the strategy elements in this game, still top-notch even for today's standards.
They don't make soundtracks like they used to. This game and Emperor Battle for Dune had two of the most memorable sound tracks I've heard in any game.
Funny fact.. The Desert soundtrack in Ground Control, is almost identical to The Rock Humell gets the rockets. ruclips.net/video/wppq0da1Bjc/видео.html
In my original timeline, they called it Battlezone.(cough cough) I can't believe I'd never heard of Ground Control til now. The casting is also excellent! Made me realize that FemShep was also Bastila all along. Mind blown.

Can't find a download link that works. Spent all day looking for it.

@@bringmesomeavocados GoG and Steam have both of them for a fiver each.
jesus move that damn APC!
Wow, what graphics for an rts in 2000...it's unreal
It's gotta be so weird to be young enough to think any game from 2000 had bad graphics. This game was cutting edge!
@@chaosapiant I know, it was a new age of graphics in 2000, at least that's what i've experienced

This is basically foundation for Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, only 20y ahead of its time.
The foundation of all tactical wargames from Men of War to Red Dragon
7:00 command APC taking friendly fire. Man this game is one of the best RTS that i have a chance to play a lot of cool units with cool mechanics.

Same here. If you've found out please let me know
I found the orginal cd cover and the cd inside, its totaly mint.
It was in an old box all those years:D
"Understood. We will enter the APC."
They dont make games like these any more =/
@////// Actually the SC2 is other kind of RTS subgenre, Ground Control series is tactical strategy games.
I'll always remember this game as the first one with really impressive bump mapping on the ground.
that friendly fire was putting me on the nerves XD
I remember those animated portraits in the mission briefing looking realistic as heck.

Thanks for showing this game! I played it when it was released and haven't seen it since. Real cool
OMG this is Greatest strategy! oneof my favourite games in 2000, when i was young )) Bombing area, deacon (c) !
Its like a conflict between India and China on a board, but on the Mars in a future

these were the 'good old days'. no pay to play BS just straight up good gaming period
I was looking for a game like this the same sounds but I remember it was from a Microsoft disc demos games and the game play was in space
Maybe it was NEXUS (Jupiter Incident) or it was Homeworld 2?
Omg finally. Took me 2 days searching for this.
