2:13 Well I did not played like that. My personal optional objective was to not lose units in battle at all. Not one soldier. I managed in most of them, playing on Hard.
First, defend the Landing Zone. Make a little fortress with units harder to destroy on front. Do not worry about money, they will flow anyway and if you do not lose units in battle you do not need much money anyway.
When you have enough money buy those units so that you can block bridges or passes. Or (if nothing to block) secretly move units near a landing zone you want to assault.
Repeat until you take all landing zones. Clear the map. Win the mission.
So basically most of the time you wait and defend a position with units such that no one will die in an attack. You need enough fire power and some units with tanking role (as in RPGs), shields etc. Artillery is important too because that prevents the enemy to gather too many units before an attack.

Good vid. I didnt get gc 2 but i really enjoyed the first ground control game. I found my way to this vid as a strategy game i got recently has a faction that reminds me of the order of the new dawn from gc. The order units were hover units and high tech just like the gaalsian faction that reminds me of them in my mew game. The colour schemes are very similar and the gaalsians are high tech religious folks like the order were. I dont mind the similarity at all i guess its very hard for a strategy game to make original factions that are not going to remind veteran gamers of some other past game. The factions in my new game are like gdi and nod too. One is a faction using solid reliable forces with tracks and projectile weapons and the other uses hover units with lots of high tech energy weapons and fast lightly armored units. Its like gdi and nod but its done well so the similarities are even a positive thing. They added two sub factions too so its got some variation. I remember the cut scenes from ground control like when the order star ship attacks the craven starship in orbit. There was a third faction maybe it was an expansion faction kind of like scavengers.

@HizuNagho That would be awesome actually, if I can find a decently cheap one I might just have to do that

Just a small suggestion to consider is (money permitting) getting one of those secret service-style ear bud microphones as part of the your "review outfit". It would fit fairly well with the rest of the "agent" style that you seem to be going for with it, while also letting you up the audio quality and keep it consistent (removing the slightly jolting change in audio quality, from gameplay sequences with a good-quality microphone to a camera that picks up some noticeable echo in comparison).

@HizuNagho Now that I've looked unfortunately there is nothing like that, so I'd have to custom make it. Still a a good idea though!

outstanding review, though I have not watched it all so as to avoid spoilers of GC2 which I am currently enjoying alongside some friends in co op. You say Parker encountered the virons, as a fellow GC nerd, can you please elaborate on this? I dont recall any alien evidence on Krig-7B save the Xenofacts. Are the Virons the race who built them? or the threat which that race was protecting itself from?
definitely one hell of a story for a 13 year old RTS. this and homeworld are worth of attention.

Nice one (the only minus for me is difference in voice quality in scenes "in suit" ) Too bad you stopped making these.

Hi! I come from 12 years in the future. I had never played GC 1 until recently but bought GC2 on release, and I was quite disappointed. The graphic engine was the only impressive point but the story was dull and badly acted. Coming from heavy story games like Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 and gameplay rich RTS like empire earth It was not a good experience.
I didn't like the shooting vfx of the infantry, nor the static way enemies reacted to being shot at. The barge looked like some kind of fat whale and the gameplay objective were too gamy. "take control of that bright red victory point". There was an accumulation of things that made me dislike and ultimately drop the game for 19years.
I just bought the collection on gog recently and had a go at the first game... Which I found amazing apart from the dodgy pathfinding. The characters are well voiced, both the backstory and the setting of the conflict hooked me instantly and the freedom to prepare and call your barges is a great gameplay feature and let you feel you're in control. The story doesn't really deliver in the end but it constructed tension for a good part of the game and I always felt invested in the missions.
I started the second one today, pretty convinced that my memory failed me and 15yo me was probably too dumb to figure out the intricacy of the gameplay... But no, the campaign sucks even from the menu. Instead of having an interface that has a reason to exist in the game world like GC1 briefings, It's just bad sy-fy story dumps, one after the other. The characters are poorly written hollywood stereotypes and story mission feels disjointed. The only thing GC2 kept from 1 is the terrible pathfinding. Slightly less of an issue here because units are smaller compared to the environment.
Anyway GC1 is really a gem and holds up pretty well.
