Man, I really wish for this game to make it to a platform like Steam someday. I doubt that will ever happen, knowing that Cave signed a contract with Exa Arcadia, but a man can dream.
@@serraramayfield9230 I do know for a fact that some content must be exclusive to the Exa port, so as to give players a reason to play the Exa port over others. But if we're talking about porting the 360 version to Steam, then yeah, it's up in the air and I hope it happens some day.
Nice to see caves swansong finally getting the recognition it deserves. People moaned about this game playing it on their laggy tv’s, if you play it on a crt or low lag monitor it plays great and 1.5 is a much more “ even” score experience. Cave must have been pissed that everyone shat on this game . They worked very hard to bring this to the world.
A lot of the stuff thrown in the face of Saidaioujou is unwarranted: "But it has anime girls!" So did DFK, DOJ, and if you want to get really nitpicky, so did Bee Storm. "The aesthetic isn't meant for DDP! It's too utopic and bright and cheery..." If you read the interviews for this game - which 70% of people didn't - you would know that it's intentionally a reversal of most of the game's tropes. It's basically "what if Daioujou wasn't so dark and sad"? "The final boss is a loli!" ...DFK's Hibachi was one too; though to be fair the only way you'd know this is if you bought its art book. "The music is awful/unbalanced, it's not gritty" Read point 2 ...I can't understand why a fanbase who realistically shouldn't have even survived past the mid-2000s would bash a game created only as a "thank you" by their very same company. It's so frustrating!
Serrara Willow Mayfield - aka Fluttershy I see you have read the Ikeda interview too. He states in there that this was their most difficult project to date due to budget. The time it took to make the game and many other factors so it was a Shame it did not get the recognition it deserves. I have a suspicion that if the hit box was smaller more people might take to it but at its size it really takes some skill to get through the patterns and makes the game very hard. Personally my only gripe with the game is that the stages all look very similar so it took me a long time to learn/ remember sections and placements but that could just be the fact that I am terrible at noticing things and end up just frantically dodging most of it on reaction. I also wish it was slightly easier to recharge as that is soo satisfying but takes some real skill. I certainly enjoy watching the pros recharge a lvl 10 hyper!. I’m satisfied with playing the excellent novice mode for now, I think it will be a long time until I clear arcade.
@@serraramayfield9230 Aside from the point about anime girls, I agree with you. I like the backgrounds and colours, especially in the first three stages. It's a nice change from their usual stuff. The music is very different from earlier Dodonpachi games, but I also like it a lot, even though I'm generally not a fan of this style of electronic/techno music, whatever the genre is called, so it goes to show how good Manabu Namiki is as a composer. Now, that first point. It's not so much the presence of anime girls, but the way they were used. SDOJ sexualises them as fanservice to the otaku, and there are people who vehemently hate anime stuff. Having them constantly show up during the course of the game isn't helping. Personally I do like anime, but even so I felt the implementation of anime girls in SDOJ was a little tasteless. DOJ usually gets a pass because the Element Dolls aren't used in this way, and they only show up in the ship selection and ending. DFK though... anime Transformer waifus are a little too much, and I think in that regard DFK is worse than SDOJ. DFK definitely should get some flak for that too. SDOJ isn't exactly DOJ or OG DDP, but yeah it could use a bit more love. It's still a really good shmup, and more importantly a really good CAVE shmup. Plus, Maria is cute. If there is anything to complain about, it should be the gameplay issues like input lag and hitbox sizes (autobomb hitbox being larger than the ship's hitbox for example) which are genuine flaws and CAVE could've done better, but not so much the aesthetics.
I really wish there was a dodonpachi legacy collection containing all of the donpachi/dodonpachi games so that way we can play them all without spending hundreds of dollars out of the ass and had cds containing all of the songs from the games and a whole lot more other goodies.
@r33mote don't talk down to me like that dammit. Also yes it does exist search up cave shooting collection on eBay found one for 1100$ shit like that is why I hate the retro gaming community

sometimes it's doubtful whether VS Inbachi in expert mode is possible. anyway, it's nice run and HQ video. If I may ask, what is the capture card that you're using?
Been trying to grind this game on and off for the past month. Still not sure what mode i should even seriously focus on. So far its just been xbox360 mode Laser. Should i just make the jump to arcade expert? or maybe just stick with arcade laser for the time being?
Well Expert is by far the hardest thing in the game so I would start with the easier modes and work up? Unless you really want to play Expert. Arcade Shot/Laser is the most played mode in any case.
hard to find this game in my country. no PC port yet (Still exclusive on XB360, and Exa-Arcadia) One thing that make me love this game is. @@JaimersSTG I suck at shmups, but this boss looks really, really insane: Pattern 1: Border of Wave and Particle CAVE Edition; Pattern 2: Evaccaneer DOOM's final attack but with surprise bullet circles; Pattern 3: This doesn't look as bad as the others, but still requires full focus. That surprise slew of red bullets is just evil; Pattern 4: Now I understand why no one was able to NMNB this TLB: this is simply impossible to dodge for a human; Last pattern: Too fast for my brain to understand what's going on. I doubt Exa is a walled garden in this case, as the port is a collaboration and not simply a "here's the rights, go do whatever you want" thing.

On the plus side, it does mean we're likely to see a rom dump.
@r33mote You never know. Someone might trade in their PCB for Exa and it could be sold to a dumper.
