When I was a kid I snubbed the telecaster I thought I don't want some twangy country sounding thang for Jazz and even blues but , 50 years later I own 5 and absolutely love each of them ! They are a Swiss army knife of electric guitars!
They have proven themselves the test of time ! Lightweight, comfortable, and in the right hands can cover alot of ground !!! Imagine Leo designing the first solid body electric guitar back then in 52? Thanks Leo Fender for all the musical inspiration!!

I bought my Telecaster 20 years ago. It was a USA Standard. At that time, I was still young and played in bands. There was a vibrant local music scene back then. The guitar looks battered, but to this day, it's still my favorite guitar.

My first gigging guitar was a new 1981 Aria Pro II Thor Sound Series TS-400.
My older brother had started a band and one of the guitar players quit.
Dad nudged me to take his place. I did, but was playing an off brand guitar.
Dad bought many used instruments during our childhood and allowed us to explore them. Music was big in our family.
When my debut with the band went well, Dad asked if I wanted to go for a drive. We wound up at a music store where he asked if there were any guitars I liked.
Of course, I opted immediately for the flourescent green, oddly shaped, hair band model on the wall. Quickly seeing it's flaws, I asked to see the Aria.
It felt perfect in my hands. Double cutaway with 24 frets. Dual humbuckers with coil split and phase reverse switches. Hard shell case. I loved it.
Dad bought it and, I believe, paid $240 for it.
I played it for 21 years. When a saddle finally broke I laid it aside and bought a G&L Asat Classic which was essentially a tele.
I've now been performing live for 42 years. I have a few guitars, including my workhorse, my Music Man Cutlass RS HSS. And I still have the Aria.
I recently had the frets polished, replaced the nut, and installed titanium saddles. I also installed a matching set of Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbuckers.
Thelma Lou, my name for it, is back on stage again as my backup. I play it from time to time and it WAILS.
And the sticker covered hard shell case is still strong as ever.

Just got my 10th Tele today....an AIO TC4. About what I expected...great set up, perfectly set up frets/fret ends/action/relief, superb playability, full-size pots, ebony fretboard, brass saddles, bone nut, locking tuners....all fine....on a body finish that is not super high QA (but for $390 just fine)...but in today's 'relic' world...how important is a perfect finish? Anyway,...the pups are decent (perhaps a bit better than Rosewell or CV50). Gonna drop in a used set of '51 CS Nocasters... Will it compete with my CS Fender Tele...nope...will I love it just the same? Most likely.

My first electric guitar was a 1996 Mexican Tele. The choice was based entirely on my love of Radiohead 😂
Two years later in 1998 I got myself an American Tele with a Little '59 in the bridge and a PAF in the neck.
Doesn't matter whatever other guitar I play, the Tele just feels like "home"

Played that for a few years, then I got a '96 American Strat that I've been playing for 20+ years. I wish I had room in my budget for a Tele. It never fails though, whenever I start putting a little money aside for a new guitar toy, something comes along to eat it up.

I can't remeber exactly what my first electric guitar was, just remember it was a strat style with a 3 tones sunburst. I sold it after a year or two to buy a Vantage 113T that I still have and that I also modded so much that there's only the neck, body and bridge left from the factory (maybe the volume pot but I have a doubt). The first mod was a strat (probably squier) pickup in the middle position (still there). Then it had a humbucker from my Epiphone LP in the bridge position with a wonderfull plywood ring to hold it, then a humbucker sized P90 from GFS with a 3d printed pickguard, and then I made a 3 ply pickguard, and added a Seymour Duncan single coil at the neck position.
There are a couple of videos along the years with that guitar and its evolution on my channel.
One of the earliest videos with it in my engineering school for the end of year show in 2005 : ruclips.net/video/rVI5aCDAxy0/видео.htmlsi=6jHHPoZIQFC5lkYi
A random blues jam with myself when I installed the humbucker : ruclips.net/video/zaMOGujzg2s/видео.htmlsi=E4FtinznbgkVebf7
Seymour duncan on neck position and 3D printed pickguard : ruclips.net/video/PweP8iu-7SU/видео.htmlsi=d-apMYQYjAXis8C9
And probably the most recent video with it (with the P90 and the 3 ply pickguard) : ruclips.net/video/cr22oyYBbm0/видео.htmlsi=G1pI9oawyklcSZrG
I discovered the Telecaster more recently and bought it here in Canada and this is what made me discover your channel because you had a very interesting comparison between 3 Telecaster (Squier classic vibe, Squier bullet I suppose and Fender mexican ? I'm not sure) and I stayed subscribed because I like your reviews and absurd sense of humour.

Landon, is the Squier Esquire they are selling now with the ceramic Humbucker in the Strat style HT string bridge loading ( not string through the body like the should be) any good? Is the C neck really thin ? I d have the bridge Almico 5 put in that Cathy wound. I can’t use a router or solder any more. I’d really rather have the neck Humbucker put in too, but the Esquires I’ve seen don’t even have a single coil rout. If I came across a used one and just put the Almico 5, in and wired it to the Volume and Tone sound good? It sounds like you were talking like you had one like that. I have the pickups already. I could have him wire in a coil split for a single coil tone, but a router and a 5 way switch to have a position to make 2 split as single coils and a position for HS would be nice. What do you think? Have you got a Esq/ Tele experiment for HH and the Strat HT bridge body you want to sell cheap? Thanks man, rock on, Teles and Esq are my favorites and the 7.25 radius are my favorites!

Hi Landon, the Telecaster is my all time favorite electric guitar. My Tele’s consists of 6 partscaster and one ‘73 USA. I can feel and hear that each one has its own character when I play them. That said, yet they all share similar feel, sound and comfort. Each one of them are configured with different electronics, pickups and hardware. In the end, no two are the same and I feel very comfortable and IMO I’m a better guitarist with these than other type I have ever played.
I prefer these features: vintage split shaft tuners, ss pickups with 3 way, 9.5 radius, and absolutely “no” body carves. The Telecaster’s square body feels the best to me.
Body & neck contours, tune-o-magic bridges and 2T2V are of no particular interest to me. Every other config I’d want in multiples!

PUPs are great. 4-way is useful but wish it were on the switch and not the tone pot. Probably will change that some day. Tried an Ultra. PUPs sounded dull. Neck felt just ok. Didn't keep it. Also have a MIM. Good guitar but needed neck work to get it to feel nice. PUPs are just ok - kind of dull sounding. Might change them out. Its had a few fret jobs and I might just buy a whole new neck.

The bridge sound of the dually red Lace Sensor seems to be very nice to me!!! Do you use a normal or special wiring for it? Nice guitar! Best regards from Germany!

I agree, the Tele is my favorite shape, too. What your collection is missing: Cabronita, Dual P90 and semi hollow. The Deluxe with those extra wide humbuckers is sweet, too, but I feel it‘s more of a style/fashion choice than tonally a must-have.

I have one, I'm just not into it as much as other guitars out there. I like the feel of a strat shaped body more. I hate the plates on Teles of being a piss poor design for the classic tele with the switch being so close to the volume and tone knobs. Now I pretty much had to do some upgrades to mine also getting rid of those horrid design 3 pos brass saddles for a bridge with 6 independent saddles. I also had to reshape the baseball neck sanding it down to a more comfortable shape thats easier to play on. They're also too light for me. I like my guitar, but still prefer the strat HSS super strats more. To each their own though.

A lot of possibilities for sound on your tele’s L. I love comfort cuts. I’ve never owned a tele or a tele copy but I would like to. If I could have a custom tele, I would like all the body contours of a strat, and only one pickup like the Esquire, and not sure about pickup type or body colour, but with a maple board. My first guitar was a black raven P bass(1970’s)

I have a Vintera 50s reissue with the U neck 7.25 radius Tim Shaw Almico 2 neck and Almico 3 in the bridge. I want the Tele U neck string through but with the flat bridge and a pair of Humbuckers made by Cathy from Scarmy Pickups. Really good. But the 2 Cathybuckers are really good. I just need a good Tele that was routed for twin H and a good string through bridge with the 6 saddles . I want a chunky 7.25 neck, but it seems like I’m going to have to gather a bunch of parts and have someone put it together for me as I am blind now.

Technically my first guitar was way back when I was 13 and my dad got me a black starcaster but I only played it for about a week before I put it in the closet forever.
Started playing guitar in December of 2022 when I got a marked down Mitchell acoustic for $150. First electric was a Yamaha Pacifica 612 in mystic aqua or whatever the name of the color was. Still regret selling it but I had a hankering for a Les Paul and didn’t have the money to buy one outright. Amazing guitar for sure!

Telecasters Are Just Better Than Other Guitars. In fact, I think I will go out to the garage right now, open the door and fire it up. Nothing like a 100 degree day here in Dallas Texas and go cool off with a tall glass of Ice Tea, a Tele, and a tube amp, both turned ALL the Way UP.

NO SGs are and since this is my opinion it is the only valid one 😁 Seriously, my only complaint is fretwire size and neck contour that is too small on almost all Teles that you don't need to sell a kidney for ... not my cup of tea, I like bigger frets and bigger necks.

My first electric was a Strat. I have done many Mods on it. I probably would have purchased a Tele if I had known at the time how many songs I liked were actually played on a Tele. 😉

My first guitar was an early model 1986 G&L ASAT 3T Sunburst (it has "by Leo Fender", his whole name, not like the newer G&L's that just say "Guitars by Leo", due to FMIC being horrible people.) with an ebony fretboard with medium-jumbo frets, luckily I still have that guitar. The T-type guitars will always be my first love of guitar, I mostly play a Strat/S-type guitar because I am a huge Jimi Hendrix fan, along with most of my other guitar hero's playing Strat's but funny that they play Strat's also because of Hendrix: Blackmore, Clapton, Frusciante, Curtis Mayfield, Mark Knopfler. Only guitar hero of mine that doesn't play a Strat was the late great Ron Ashton. I am slowly warming up to my Strat after a decade or more, and I see it's advantages and it's great flexibility and versatility. That said, I am just as happy playing my G&L ASAT. Also, the only two reason I didn't get a G&L Comanche was that everyone told me that to get a sound closer to Hendrix and everyone else I liked, I needed a Fender Strat. So I got one, with vintage style pickups, and it happened to be the actual 2006 Fender 60th Anniversary American Strat Model, the one with the little diamond medallion and cubic zirconia with a banner that says "Sixty Years" on it. The whole year in 2006 Fender guitars all had a diamond base-plate, so they are often mistaken as the 60th Anniversary model. There also a model for the 60th year of just the Strat, and now a 70th Year of the Strat. That being said, I will never buy another Fender guitar new, except maybe a Squire. My experience with FMIC has been just awful. And that was back in the mid-2000's and I have heard they have gotten worse. Hard to believe that can happen. Fender is lucky if I buy their guitar picks and guitar cables, the only two products that are worth it, if you ask me. Ahh, but I am getting old and crotchety.

My first guitar was a Strat, but I like the Tele sound better, yet I like Les Paul and ES-335 as much as the Tele. If I were to keep one guitar only, it would be the ES-335 semi-hollow which is a more versatile guitar overall, for my music taste.

When I walked into my local guitar store to buy my first electric in the summer of 1983, there actually was a 1958 Telecaster hanging from a peg for what I recall was around $1400. I took one look at it with its grimy chewed up maple fretboard and I laughed and said "who'd pay a grand for that POS". The owner said, "don't worry about it kid", as he proceeded to sell me a shiny brand new Ibanez Roadstar 2 for less than half of that beat up Tele on the wall. What I wouldn't do for a time machine sometimes.

I never liked Telecasters, they always seemed so basic and uncomfortable to me, probably because my first guitar was Squier Jaguar. I was mostly an offset guy, but then I have ordered Harley Benton TE-62CC out of curiosity and it straight away became my most picked up guitar. Now I’m in the process of building my first vintage style partscaster. Before, if you would have asked me which guitar to get if you can only have one, I would said Jazzmaster without any hesitation. Now that answer has changed to Telecaster.
