This is to Debbie Boone: You lit up our lives when God picked you to sing this song. Well, picked by nessessity, because Debbie Boone is the only person on Earth who could sing it this way. The way God wanted it sung. I don't mean to be combative, but with one song and you jumped your Dad for greatness.
I am a Christian. This sung is about redemption of a wondering and lost soul. The joy you experience when you here His voice calling you out of a world of sin into His loving arms. The joy bells that ring in your heart, and the songs that you sing from you heart to Him when you experience salvation. Like a mystery of love between Ruth and Boaz. When He seals you with Holy Spirit of promise, never to roam again. You are never alone again, "I will be with you even in you, I will never leave you or forsake you." To quote the scripture is one thing, when He comes and proves it to you that is another. This is my story this is my song, praising my savior all the day long. He has light up my life. He has given me more than hope, He has given me life eternal. And I await my crown of rightousness, even a glorified body like He has. That where He is so I will be also. We will drop this robe of mortal flesh and put on white robes. I was a prodigal son, but He plucked me like a brand out of the fire. The greatest thing in life is to experience redemption. The Lord Jesus Christ is all together lovely.
You Light Up My Life is a song written for a 1977 film of the same name. It tells the story of a young woman who dreams of becoming a singer, songwriter, and actress. However, to please her father, she tries her hand at comedy, following in his footsteps. The song was composed by Joseph Brooks and originally recorded by Kasey Cisyk. Debby Boone, the daughter of singer Pat Boone, performed the most famous version. But I believe everyone gives it the meaning that resonates most with them.
For 40+ years, I had this memory of Debbie Boone singing this song on Solid Gold when I was a kid. Her face, the song, that moment stuck with me all these years. It just occurred to me today to look for the video and RUclips delivered! Thanks! Love the 80s!
Here's my Debby Boone influence story. I was ten years old in 1977, a 5th grader when "You Light Up My Life" came out. It was so popular, that this girl brought the record to our Music Appreciation class. I recalled that for some reason even though I had no interesting the girl at all, though she did give me this unsettling feeling. We even had to sing this song at a school assembly as a class. Fast forward to a year later....that girl who brought the Debby Boone album used to look at me a lot and now I'm slowly falling for her as a 6th grader until I wake up one morning, totally sick to my stomach, singing "You Light Up My Life," as I had fallen totally in love with her!!! Because I had so many negative issues, including low self esteem, I blew my chances with her and nothing ever happened, but not being able to be involved with her really hurt me since she was the first girl I fell for, and my life has been where I've really not been in love much. Frankly, I really had no really good things to say about "You Light Up My Life." I thought it was a cheesy joke of a song and I used to get really angry whenever I heard it. Well, Debby Boone came on a Sirius radio show this year and had some great selections for music. After that, I was at a free, take it section of a used record and book store, and Debby's 1977 album was there, so I listened to the song and have come to respect the song way more and even like it, and embrace it for its historical role in my young life. Then after finding the album, I was at a garage sale and came on her 1981 autobiography, and I bought it and read it....She really has an incredible story. I don't know why Debby Boone has become en vogue for me after all these years, but "You Light Up My Life" has really been coming into my sphere over 40 years after experiencing my first love. Ironically, the first girl I fell for so hard, well, her name means "shining light." I never got married, considered it just one time but it didn't work out, and am still single as of this writing.
When this song "YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE" came out in 1977, I had been a Christian for 3 years. Truly, JESUS IS THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE. He has given me real life. I am not ashamed of what He has given to me and to others who have surrendered their lives to JESUS the Son of God. Read John 3:16 in the Bible.
Damn I love this song I remember listening to it when I was just a kid long time ago wow really gets to me such a beautiful person actor-singer God bless you
Several easy piano arrangements of this song to play, here introduced by my original favorite diva Miss McCoo-Davis on her show. Miss Boone indicated the point of the song was not about a lover but about God.
I know I didn’t represent the meaning intended, but I would sing this to my baby girl almost every night I put her to bed (she had a music box that had the instrumental part) for close to 3 years. The last time was probably close to 20 years ago. Hearing this now makes me cry.
Yes. I heard about that very sad story.....i hope Kvitka Cisyk had a good and blessed carreer anyway. Not Debby Boones fault of course but the fault of the writer of this song.
Grew up on this and it was also my song that was played my family reunion did it in hand sign also it was my graduation song. Thankies Debby for the great song!
I always appreciated how special this song was, but I remember listening to American Top 40 then, and rooting so hard each week for some song to knock this out of #1. How Deep Is Your Love by the Bee Gees finally did it after 10 weeks...
Never saw the movie that inspired that song - but I can tell you that I am writing my autobiography, and I heard that very lovely waltz-ballad song at 6 years old on a transistor radio we had in our house on WGN 720 when it did the musical series "Music Unlimited", and also when I was driven around and I heard that same song on the car stereo when my parents listened to WCLR 102 FM (actually, 101.9 FM, before digital LED displays on dashboards and electronics gave the exact dial reading). It made me feel much better! The high B (nearly an octave above middle C) she sang near the end really made my day, and the additional words, "You gave me hope to carry on", was Debby's subconscious meaning that when my own life is filled with thorns and pain, try everything you can to get through and feel better again. That song was the best song in my 1977 year, so I am going to put it in my book! Thanks Debby Boone!!!!
I have more and more hope cause I see progress and his intuition and just a smooth talker gets me so energized each and every time and keeping me at an arms length is ok 👌 with me as it only gets stronger and stronger my intuition and optimism and Jesus knows I love him and guides me every step of the way to my love and happiness and I see this was meant to be! There are just too many signs snd tears that make me feel like I want to just run to him and hold him in my arms forever and no matter how I think it is over well how come as soon as I approach the street where he lives I get all nervous weak and my briefcase weighs 101 million tons and when I am up reall good things happening I always want to tell him first! If this isn’t love ❤️ what is? Susan
karen carpenter (the carpenters) were originally brought this song, but decided not to record it? can you imagine! debby's voice is great for this song and very pretty, but karen carpenter had one of the greatest voices who ever lived as debby i'm sure would agree...

A song she sings to God. Truly; one of the most
beautiful songs ever written, and preformed.
そうですね。😃私も そう思いますね。😉👍️
It's high on the cringe list 😬

I feel privileged to have been a child of the 70s to listen to songs of diversity from led zeppelin to melancholy ballads like this

I fell in love with Debbie Boone back then and I never got over it.
Me, too. I'm 87 and that song sung by Debby Boone is my lifetime favorite!
Didn't we all :)
I love this song, this sound and a time that the music had much more quality and feelings
Her voice is the sweetest and so much emotion and power.Love this so much!

My granddaughter and I share this song. You light up my life Samantha. I love you.

Yes. I heard about that very sad story.....i hope Kvitka Cisyk had a good and blessed carreer anyway. Not Debby Boones fault of course but the fault of the writer of this song.
U mean it was adubbed voice,i dont think so
You are wrong. Is Debby Boone's voice. She was a professional singer. Is not the same voice of the picture. Debby's voice is superior.

Boone made Chart Hit, but is Kvitka Cisyk is the original voice and in the movie too. the best of all!! It is just a miserable parody of Kvitka Cisyk.
Beautiful!
The original version of this song was performed by Kasey Cisyk who was Ukrainian. Debby Boone only imitated Kasey's voice, which she did perfectly.
Correction she surpassed Kasey Cisyk version.
No 1 song day I was born
Great voice
To me, that's a sad song, makes me want to cry big time, :(

Kacey Cisyk is the original...... they both sound similar.
But Debbie IS better.
Is that Jesse from streethawk?
Shows alot of control to sit down and belt out like that..standing is the best way to get ur vocals out

It's alive?..🤭
Tengo entendido que si!
I know it was a big hit in 1977
Not alot of people sit at their window
This is Kvitka Cisyk's song. She is the Performer of the original. Stolen prize. Not even close to her performance..
Just shows how shady show business is....
Yep,Debbie IS the better performance.
Like it or not, this IS Debbie's song.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nothing close to perfect Kvitka Cisyk! ((
Debbie did...STILL DOES.
