All Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition Civilisation Quotes!

  • This video contains the voicelines for every civ's villagers, military, monks and kings. A few of the double ups have been removed, i.e. if the same quote is used for both moving and when being selected.
Also, civs which have the same quotes have been merged into one, more specifically: Byzantines & Italians, Goths & Teutons, as well as Huns & Mongols. I love the Age of Empires 2 civilisation quotes, because they make each individual civ feel a bit more unique. It's also pretty fun when you recognise a few of the words and what they mean, without even looking them up!
For AoC & AoK civilisations, there are unused villager attacking files which have been included in this video. A few of them actually sound pretty awesome! A few are a bit excessive, but amusing.
I love the way these civ quotes sound, I really appreciate that each civ has their own unique sound and flavour. My favourite voicelines overall would be those from the Huns & Mongols.

Something funny is that even though the aztec language (nahuatl) is still spoken today by 1 million people, the developers ended up giving them a mayan dialect, which is a completely different linguistic family. It's as if someone decided lithuanians should speak german. Technically even more inaccurate than the latin speaking byzantines (at least they used latin as a liturgical language). 11

Fun fact: the villager attacking voicelines of the Briton and Japanese have been reused in the DS spinoff. I'm also surprised the Franks don't have one in this video, because not only their villagers have an attack voiceline in AoK:DS too, but Joan is the only female unit in the whole game and she has a battle cry too.

    • @ShadowCrystallux
      @ShadowCrystallux  3 года назад +6

According to the AoE2 wiki, the attack voiceline the Frankish villagers use is "Certes" which is features in the video, but it is possible another voiceline is used for the DS version or that the wiki has a mistake on it 😀

Because I see them being mentioned a lot:
Inca, Magyars, Slavs, Italians, and Indians were actually from a fanmade mod first and didn't have official support, as a result their quality doesn't match the rest or reuse assets. The latter three being Slavs, Italians and Indians have also been criticized for being overgeneralized and having somewhat inaccurate depictions. Thankfully, Indians, the worst offender of the three is getting an update now this month, hopefully this includes the voice lines and maybe we'll see the others be addressed as well.
There are some other poor voice lines as well, which are from the original AoK or Conqueror's expansion. I'm not sure if it was budgeting or some other reason, but some like Aztecs for example are both done by non-speakers and inaccurate to the language. Huns also use Mongols voice lines despite having a different language, Byzantines use Latin instead of Greek, Chinese has some strange lines that sound like they were first made by an English speaker and then given to the voice actor without context. I'm sure there's other strange peculiarities among the early civs as well. It's a shame because some of them were legitimately well done, while others seemed to be neglected
The positive thing though is that the newer dlc seem to be getting better treatment in this regard

Its so cursed to hear a language you can understand.
Nobody asked but since i have the knowledge here's what spanish quotes means:
    "Si?"/Yes?
    "¿Mande?"/What?
"Voy"/i will (in this context, it usually means "i go")
    "Talar"/lumber
    "Construir"/build
    "Pescar"/fishing
    "Remendar/Remandar"/Repair
    "Cultivar"/planting
    "Buscar"/Search
    "Excavar"/Dig
    "Cazar"/Hunt
"¡Santiago!"/ Historical war cry, its also a name and a saint.
    "guerra!"/ War!
These words are still in use nowadays.
    These are not:
"Agora" (now we say "Ahora", the "H" is silent)
"Degrado"/ "my pleasure" not used anymore.
"Servidor"/ i serve you (still used but in different contexts)
"Presto"/ old way of saying "im ready"
Plasme/ very old way of saying "its a pleasure"

El lenguaje que usaron los bizantinls era el griego, esto durante la mayor parte de la vida Bizancio (Constantinopla)... Por lo que debería ser griego medieval y no latín el idioma del juego.

    • @MHCP
      @MHCP Год назад +1

As a native speaker the quote of Chinese is totally a disaster. Back to the Medieval no one speaks Mandarin but ancient Han-yu, very different from modern Chinese (or Mandarin) but very close to Cantonese or Taiwanese. Modern Chinese just spoken after Quin Dynasty.
