Thanks for showing us these games, John. It looked like a lot of the games were very evenly matched, forcing you to really push yourself to keep up with your opponents. I hope this practice helped you to prepare for Charlotte, and I bet you had a successful three mini-tournaments there. I'm sure your viewers would really appreciate a video (or more) describing your experiences at Charlotte and perhaps analyzing a few interesting games there.
Hi John. I’d enjoy some rapid or standard videos against similar rated opponents (as opposed to CTRL which is usually more lopsided). Just one person’s preference of course. Appreciate the uploads.
Hey John! In most of your recent uploads you've been playing longer time controls, and often espouse the benefits of doing so for beginners. I'm curious, as a seasoned and titled player, did you see any improvement in your blitz play after choosing slower controls for the past month or two? Thanks for so many uploads, feels like we've been spoiled haha
Hey John, I started watching you more recently, I am a 1800 blitz 3+0 player, I'm not anywhere near as strong as you, but at the same time better than most players do you think shorter blitz sessions are good for my rating too, or are you just doing that because it's good at your rating?
@@JohnBartholomewChess I see. Would that not still be better though? You’re down on the clock and tempo in endgame, might as well give your king as much mobility as black has so you have a better shot at a draw.
@@shapeofsoup Not sure I follow your logic. f2-f3 blocks my bishop as well, so there's nothing particularly impressive about this move other than encouraging Black's bishop retreat. I don't think the bishop is worse off on c8 than h3 for Black.
@@JohnBartholomewChess that’s sort of my point. It simplifies play across the board, giving you better opportunity to draw instead of constantly retreating. I feel like it’s relatively equal at that point, but you’re clearly in defense mode. I dunno, I’m just throwing an idea out there-it’s a strategic play, but the psychological part of it is probably at least as important. I hope that makes some sense. Regardless, thanks for considering my comment and taking time to reply.
@@JohnBartholomewChess Ah! Legit! My apologies! Edit: Looking back at the vid title, my eyes ran right across the vertical bar and I read it as a complaint: "Tricky, Fast Untitled Player [is] Using the Clock as a Weapon."
I'd love to see a recap of the tournament with you going through your games

I guess its gonna be a good holiday morning to wake up to JB content. BTW congrats on your tourney successes!!
Looks like you are in great shape for the tournament, good luck!!
That fourth game was wild! Jon pulled a rabbit out of the hat.
Wow - really sharp games!!! Good luck in the tourney!

Congratulations on your tournament
Good luck John!
Good game on that round!
23:30 Ng4 in game 4 is winning
Nice one

16:32 I don’t understand why you went with f4. Wouldn’t f3+g4 have blocked black’s bishop long enough for you to push the c pawn?
Could try it, but Black could simply drop the bishop back to c8

Good session right before your departure to event. Good luck!
Good luck in Charlotte! Going to start playing OTB myself again very soon after a long absence.
I think he's going to tie for first place and get three and a half out of four points!
5:44 John, why not Nf7+ winning the queen?
Low on the time with no increment while up a piece. Better to play the fastest winning move rather than the best winning move
Best of luck in the tournament.
Fast and tricky sure, just let me know if you need someone slow and stupid. 😂
😂😂
I think it's been about 6 years since your last "fundamentals" video. Aren't you overdue for another one?
They're too fundamental to need improvement!
I consider that "evergreen" content 😊
@@michaelf8221 LOL But I'm not.
Er, using the clock is a legitimate weapon in timed chess. Why is this even an issue?
