Pretty good parts. I would highly recommend vacuum testing the valve body and pump. Otherwise you're just throwing parts at potential problems down the road. The wide band is not needed unless you're running 9 second quarter miles. BorgWarner high energy band is sufficient.

The transmission bench tutorial I followed gave instructions on how to test the parts, valves .etc that go bad. I built the 4l60 on my truck with tci racing clutches and a wide band for the 2-4 drum since the band went bad towing our travel trailer. I use our truck for pulling stumps, pulling trailers with the pedal to the floor, burnouts, offroading .etc. This build in this video was for my neighbors chevy truck that the oem trans went bad and also died because someone did not seat the torque converter fully at the shop and broke the flex plate, and stripped the main pump gear. I have to build another 4l60 for our suburban that was going bad then failed completely because my buddy put engine oil stabilizer in the trans fluid. Another thing people don't know is to make sure your trans oil cooler lines pump the fluid to the top of the radiator and dump out the bottom of the radiator to the trans case. They are all upside down on the 95 gms and tend to cause the fluid to overheat while towing.

Another important item is the molded bonded pistons in the input drum. You need a special tool to get them but not replacing them will results in burnt clutch packs.

Hello, i just have a stock 02 silverado 1500 4x4 and my trans is slipping. Could you suggest a rebuild kit to use with all of these parts as well. There are just way to many options and i feel like most of the more expensive ones are for bigger horsepower which i dont care anything about. I just want a reliable stock transmission and i dont mind spending money on parts that will make it last longer and better. Any help i would really appreciate!!!!! Thanks

If I did not have any mechanical knowledge I would not know what thingy goes to the other thingy and if you don't have that thingy you can find someone who took those thingys out and put them around your thingy... I'm just wondering is there a thingy translation guide so everyone else can figure out what thingy goes to the other thingy and what the thingys are actually called lol... Jegs has the TCI high performance clutch kit and wide band for a performance build. Only thing I recommend outside these parts for a high hp build is a upgraded rear planetary gear. You buy all these parts and throw them at a transmission builder, they "should" be able to put them in. The transgo shift kit requires drilling holes in the valve body separator plate and some other stuff. You get a new plate and the plastic check balls, all 3 pinless accumulators, bonded hi temp pistons, beast or sonnax sunshell, sonnax return springs, upgraded 1-2 3-4 accumulator springs sonnax boost valve and sonnax check valve for the servo check ball. Along with making sure your transmission cooler gets it's fluid from the top and drains back to the transmission from the bottom. All you can do is beat on it and once something breaks it's a upgrade. All these parts are a combo to eliminate a premature failure. Prices vary from Amazon to eBay. Parts range from 300 to 500 to 800. If you wanna throw the parts here in with a rebuild and all your internals are good say about 300 to 500 for these upgrades.
The stuff in this video are the parts I buy to put in ontop of a rebuild kit to keep it from burning clutches and breaking things. Here's another factor, say your using a transmission out of a 01 Corvette compared to a 95 truck. There are going to be different parts and other changes in the 2001 transmission that can just handle 300+ up from when it was built. Like a 5 gear rear planetary than a 4 gear. But, if you are not building it yourself you have the guy on the other end you have to trust. I have seen alot of 4l60s go bad. The one I built myself with the TCI parts and the stuff here has been and still is 100%. Trailer pulling, 4x4, foot to the floor even trying to drive it with the e brake on still healthy on the everything inside. Only thing the ebrake trying to drive with it on thing my friend did was blew out the stock rear planetary gear.
So, depending on the transmission year the prices might be different.
These are just the parts I put in to keep everything from breaking after a rebuild. Usually the rebuild and fail thing is from metal check balls slamming through the valve body plate, clutches burning from stuck pinned accumulators, and not having the upgraded shift kit to keep the valve body valves from causing issues.
Also, if your running 700 hp everything in the shift kit needs to be set for firm shifts. Drag racing they usually use a th400 but as long as your not locking your tires hard and they can spin. I would think it could handle it.
I'll put it this way, if you don't put those parts in there and set the trans go shift kit and valve body separator plate for firms shifts.
Your rebuild will have a super high chance of failing.
Rebuild shops charge anywhere from 1000 to 2500 parts and labor to rebuild a trans.
You have to include or ask the shop to get and put these parts in. The boost valve, separator plate are different based on year.
Your best bet is to watch some of the RUclips videos on shift kits, upgrades, rebuilding channels like transmission bench for 4l60 and get a idea on improvements for what you install.
Doing your own research and knowing what is going on is better than trusting a shop and not knowing if they did it right.
Especially after being rebuilt by a shop and breaking again with or without a warranty

Thanks for the vid. Did/do go with borg Warner double roller sprag?

    • @StealthyWolfDaddyWerewolf
      @StealthyWolfDaddyWerewolf  Год назад +1

I only had to replace a sprag once . Your main parts are going to be those. I have broken the 4 gear forward planetary before after my friend tried to drive it with the e brake on. But the 6 roller requires some other part changes so I just kept the 4 roller in my builds.
I have a all stock setup with good used clutches and these parts in my truck now with no issues.
Only thing I have to do is flush the fluid through the radiator line since it had old fluid left in the T/C.
I also make sure the cooler lines are set up at the transmission side where the fluid coming out goes to the top line of the radiator and out the bottom of the radiator back to the trans.
They are usually set up where fluid fills from the bottom and it can cause issues.
I did high temp blue molded bonded pistons too, but my stock build got all the stuff put back in it except for these parts in video I always use.
I even left the check ball to the band servo in and put the sonnax check ball with it.
I did the all stock build with upgrades as a experiment to see if everything was corrected and working well.
Valve body will have a stuck shuttle you will have to play with the caps, sand bore lightly and work out with picks and transmission fluid.
I always follow and assemble with the "transmission bench" 4l60 tutorial to make sure I am not forgetting or missing anything.
You will also have the check ball at the back of the case under the valve body that needs to be pulled out and replaced.
I like to get the new check ball out of the shell and put a plastic one in it. It requires pulling the ball out and then putting the new one in and gently adjusting the left and right tabs to get it in and locked in place so it does not fall out.
The transgo shift kit has the upgraded shuttle valve, just rember you will be tapping, lubing and working some of the caps out. I use sand paper to smooth out the edges so the caps can move as they are supposed to. You just run the sand paper in a circular motion.
I don't know what you want for your build, but I used the tci kit in my special transmission and it works well.
Stock build does about the same if you use the Borg Warner / AC Delco clutches.
You also need the overhaul kit with seals . etc but if you follow the tutorial videos, replace the parts that are worn out and assemble it right it will work for a long time.
Main failure of 4l60 is the parts upgraded by transgo and sonnax especially the pinless accumulators because they stick in the center and wear out the parts that are supposed to lock in gear.
      Good luck with your build.
When I did replace the sprag it was just with one identical to the one that was in it.

I advise you to watch the 4l60e rebuild videos on "transmission bench" RUclips channel and do it step by step with the seal / rebuild kit. When you do the lip seals just use the plastic from a 2 liter coke bottle. I just cut a strip and use it to get the lip seals in. Also use the molded hi temp pistons.

This was installed in my 2 95 4l60s, you just use the 95 valve body plate and have to drill holes for the transgo shift kit.
Some parts you will have to match for the model year like boost valve and valve body plate .etc.
Transmission bench on RUclips will give you a thorough guide on how to rebuild one if you do this yourself.

Pinless accumulators, transgo shift kit, check valve, boost valve, sonnax check balls, valve body separator plate. It would be a pain it do, but it's doable. The pinless accumulators require the ball they come with to be staked in so they don't come out. Valve body check balls get held back in with trans grease. Watch transmission bench 4l60e on RUclips if you want to understand certain parts of the transmission. Just rember if you change those parts, everything has to go back together the right way. Transgo also has some valve body removal videos too for the in vehicle version.

This is how I make my cakes, there is other ways to make a cake. But these are my main ingredients. If you don't understand what the ingredients are or how to start the oven. I suggest learning how to bake it like I did. I say this over and over, if you want to learn how to build a 4l60 you should watch the RUclips channel "Transmission bench".
There are so many intricate parts and procedures to visually examine every part to make sure it will work. I have to watch the transmission bench videos just for reference for the things I have not remembered after rebuilding 4 4l60's and one th400.
I build my transmissions to be hammered on with towing, 4x4 pulling and hard locked shifts at full throttle.
It's only helpful if you know from experience rebuilding a transmission with these parts and how much of a difference it makes in longevity to everything.
One person will say something like plastic check balls are bad, you don't need that band, you don't need those springs or other parts are more important.
I just put together another transmission on a more budget side of things with used frictions, steels, replaced the torque converter, drum, pump .etc. plus adding these parts.
I've been trying to pull a RV out of the mud in 4x4 right after I rebuilt the transmission.
It's just how it works, you put em together with stock parts, they break again, you put em together with the upgrades sonnax made after years of research on failure to these transmissions. You don't have a 6 to 3 month rebuild go bad.

I use these sonnax check balls because the metal balls damage / wear the plate and get stuck in it. Its close to 70.00 for a new plate. The shift kit I mention is supposed to help with valve body sticking issues. OEM parts and builds without these things I installed. Like the shift kit updates, pressure regulator, or pinless accumulators usually cause a slamming effect on check balls. Its the tcc valve and sticking accumulators that cause issues. I would rather have a plastic check ball slam through and just buy new ones than to have a metal one get stuck and have to pay the 70.00 for a new plate. But that being said, these parts including the shift kit are supposed to correct the issue of moving parts getting stuck and damaging components the way the 4l60 was built from the factory. A regular transmission shop will rebuild it just like my gmc was rebuilt with no upgrades to then having it go bad in 6 months after the build.
