I am currently in my gap year and it's going great . Reading new books , exploring myself , doing activities like meditation and workout regularly , experiencing new things came to know a lot about myself in this time .
Same bruhhhh! I was confused too ... Mere family middle-class hai but they understood my feelings... I tried a lot of things... Cuz of corona nd all... But I'm glad now that i took gap...
A great subject and a very informative talk, Ankur ! I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCE OF THE GAP YEAR I TOOK AFTER CLASS X. I was doing music that time, particularly learning the Piano. I wasn't very sure what i was doing and what I wanted to do in future. My dad actually encouraged me to go for a gap year for the very reason to explore other things. In that year I started working on fitness, playing lawn tennis at a club, learning Piano, just exploring my personality. I was very critical of myself for the next couple of years since a lot of people even relatives criticised me but only later did i realise how important was that year in my shaping of the future. I took good decisions after that break like taking humanities in secondary school ( Before taking gap i was very much sure that ill do PCM ) and right now I am about to finish my graduation in Music, psychology and English. I have been working part time for the last two years of my UG with an institution in bangalore. I am planning to take a year gap again right after graduation to get more experience and explore other things. The only advice i have for people reading this is Life's too short so just explore as many things as you can. Don't be fearful of other people's opinions. Do what you love :))
IIT-JEE score for UG admission is valid for only one year. Every year, we need fresh score. GATE score is usually valid for 3 years. PSUs demand a fresh GATE score for recruitment.
I am on the verge of completing my Gap year currently and I must say that I thank the gap year a lot. Althought after having watched this video, i feel I could have planned it better, but I still feel that I am at a better place than before. So, to start with I always wanted to explore development sector and I had a fellowship planned. I took a break from my Software Dev job anticipating the same. While the fellowship didn't fall in place for me, I used the time to double down on connecting with music. I joined Classical Music classes and thoroughly immersed myself into it. I knew that for the rest of the year this is what I wanted to do. Another opportunity came by in which I took up part time job as a Music teacher in an NGO which served my purpose of working in dev sector as well. Post this one year, I have gained one hobby for lifetime, realised qualities about myself and gave me a bit more clarity about myself and my confidence boosted a lot over this time! As Ankur mentions, if you are privileged enough, do take the Gap year, and use his pointers for planning it better! :)
I hope I had found this video on the exact date it was published. That was THE day when it all started crumbling and breaking down. At least it all felt like that. But when I look back I realise I am a different person now. I have explored myself, my emotions, my strengths & weaknesses, what I generally like to do and what not. That wasn't a planned break. It was a forced one. I was on a break because I couldn't study or work at all. I took charge, focused on my health (mental and physical both), read some books, rebuild strong relations with my family, resolved some of my deep rooted issues, attended many online workshops, gained insights in few different careers, made some audio/video content, networked with few people from fields other than mine, watched good online content like your's. The only thing missing is internships. I did not do any internship in any field and that's one thing which I would want to change if I could. Anyway I am glad that 'break' happened but huge clouds of doubt appear every now and then because most of my peers are already CA and have started their careers and I have not. I genuinely wanna thank you Ankur for making me feel okay, literally 🔥 Keep sharing your experiences and insights like this please💯
I've been working since 2018 even before i graduated from college but now after almost working for 2 years i started thinking that where am i heading and because of that i have decided to take a gap year. I still need to serve 3 more months notice period out of 6. Who ever is thinking to take a gap year i want to tell you just one thing that our mind needs some space to grow and taking a break will give that space. Life is really simple guys, let's not make it complicated by over committing to so many tasks. Once we start thinking with a free mind there is nothing in this world we can't achieve. Just belive in yourself and you will win the game :)
Good to know that we share same circumstances, I have just resigned recently. I am not knowing what is ahead. But will move ahead with courage. Courage to you as well.
You always come up with unique topics which will be beneficial for the youth... I could totally relate to this particular topic because I am currently on a gap year since October 2020, after graduating in 2018 and working for 24 months in a MNC. I felt I needed some peace, solitude and self exploration...being in midst of pandemic just made this easier for me to explore inside rather outside. To reflect on thoughts , step back and navigate and most importanly focus on my Health , I am so happy as it was getting neglected. For me staying inside and being with self was main moto of my gap year bcz last year I was already going to places and experiences but that was not actually helping me, staying with my own self helped me build emotional intelligence along with other self improvements my few activities include journaling my thoughts, reading, listening to podcasts, following coaches like you, religiously working out etc and I'm still on this journey so far it's going good. Also this was toughest decisions I had to make bcz it was not easy and sensible for many to leave well paid and secured job, also got lots of negative comments. But I knew I have to prioritise myslf and my well being. Note: consider all the factors while coming to this decision.
Hi, Ankur Thanks for the video I took 2 gap years for some self-exploring. I went to Kolkata, Hyderabad did some freelancing, internship, learn some personal finance and stock investing. And now for months, I was very anxious about my carrier because people told me that a gap year is the worst thing you can do to your life let alone 2 gap years. thanks to your video I realize that taking gap years is the best thing I did in my life. I am sharing this with my parents so that they can rest assured as well. p.s great content as always.
That one-year lagging feeling you've mentioned is a truth bomb, and that always ends up creates a feeling of a race. We often tend to forget that each of our paths is different, journeys are different, and isn't it very silly of us?😳
I am Bharat and I was working at a very successful company heading one of the verticals. But, I was unfulfilled with everything which was happening in life. So, one day I decided to quit my job not knowing what to do further. And in the last 1.5 years (the gap year) I traveled the Himalayas, stayed at an Ashram as a monk, volunteered, started up 2 companies, invested in the stock market, played a lot of sports and finally decided that I love ideation and problem solving and hence want to get into product roles now :) The gap year, a slightly extended on for me has given me the most important thing in my life and that is 'How do I want to live it keeping the social pressures and structures aside 🙏 It is so good that someone who is 'successful' in the socially accepted sense is making a video about 'getting out of the race' to figure where do you want to make a journey. Thanks for your video!
I'm also planning to quit my job in 3-4 months and then I want to live in Rishikesh, probably in an ashram, living a minimalistic life for a couple of months. Plus I'm just 22, I think I have a very large risk appetite with no family responsibilities.

Thank you uploading this. I was forced to leave my job due to circumstances created by pandemic. It has been 10 months now. I took this time for reflecting on my life, trying out things that I thought I had potential in and connecting with people. I didn't know the concept of gap year till now and if I did this year would have been still more productive. But must say at the end of ten months I have so much clarity in mind and so much direction. I feel if I had continued working instead of sitting back for a year, I would have lost the advantage that this gap gave me. I feel my life will take a different course than it would have otherwise.
A gap year can put you leaps ahead of everyone around you, in terms of clarity of thought. In my gap year, I realised, everybody loses in a competition. Just realising that as a teen is worth a gap year imo. I agree with what Ankur says. I should have taken internships and tried to figure out what I want. We get so lost in sticking it up to the society and winning, that we lose who we are. I appreciate the videos you make sir. They are deeply insightful. Thank you ❤️
I took a gap year before seeing this video and some point literally hit me.. on my gap year i felt that im interacting with whole new world . I find that world is only like how we want to see apart from up n down of life. We can’t blame the world just to make us feel innocent and that this just change my perspective to see a world 😊
Seriously gap year ki agar kisi ne sahi tarah se explain kra hai to aapki hi video dekha hai aur same cheez me kar chuka hu to apna sb experience yaad aa gya ab apne startup pr work kr rha hu. Thank you sir video dekh k boost k sath sath maza bhi aaya ♥️
Thanks, Ankur warikoo, this helps me a lot, and I love to hear your thinking and wisdom about life. I am inspired by you and want to tell the audience to follow you for getting answers about anything any problem that they will stick in life. Actually, I took the gap year 2 months before watching this video, this video help me to guide about what I do next. FOMO problem as Ankur said is just similar to that, but watching this video makes me back on track and I am learning a lot more. But I want to add more to it please don't stop, get out of your comfort zone and start doing things you are afraid of. And kill that fear. last week I left using my phone because that distracts me, and I want to dive into the discovery. I assure you will experience many things in your life with this approach. I will recommend to all the audience don't go with only if you are going to take a gap year. Following this, in regular life, you will surely grow tremendously.
Key takeaways from my side: - For a lot of things, we usually don't get clarity that easily. - We end up being consumed with completing all the milestones that society has laid down for us without really asking, "do we want to do what we are doing in the first place?", "is it making me happy?" - What should be done in the gap year? - Explore - The reason that we are taking a gap year is usually that we are confused. - To understand what we genuinely enjoy, we have to try different things. - Best way to do that: - Internships - Don't go behind the stipend, the company/person's brand. - See if you are feeling challenged, are you learning something, are you learning more about yourself - optimise for this. - Network: - Instagram is where you go to chill - don't waste your time there. - LinkedIn and Twitter are the main sources - spend an hour or so there. - Engage with the content of people there. - Find the people with whom you want to work with / respect / feel inspired by and genuinely engage with their content. - Don't do it from an intention of wanting to get a job or any other favour. - Share a meaningful perspective beyond just "great", "amazing" that adds meaning to their content. - If you keep doing this consistently, people end up remembering your name. - It can open the door for many opportunities. - Spend time with yourself: - Most important thing - Fundamental objective of the gap year is to know yourself - what you enjoy doing and what you don't. - Every day, sit with yourself without a notebook or a book or your phone and just reflect on the day - "what is something new that I learned about myself?". - E.g. solo travel, spending time with yourself at your home. - It will be hard at the start - but if you do it with discipline, it will start showing results and you won't even want to stop once you get into the habit. - One thing you'll need to execute this: courage - there will be a lot of FOMO from seeing other people progressing through their lives. - we'll feel pressured about staying behind by an year. - we are going to work for 50 years. if we spend 1 year out of those 50 to figure out what we want to do, it is totally worth the investment.
Hi guys , I used to work in TCS and unfortunately I was put into a project where I didn't have a very healthy work environment and also the work did not cater to my skills . So around Oct of 2020 I decided to just leave the job to figure out just what makes me happy. All I can say is there is so much to life and the world that you can admire and most importantly figure out during this time with yourself that your perspective about life , earning money and also the current world will surely change and that's worth this investment of time according to me.
I have gone through the same thing and i left around oct too .But i dont know how to convince my parents , so i pretend to look for jobs and do research on things i want
@@nandithas7643 Even I was worried about convincing my parents till a point but then in the process I figured they are justified at their point and they think that's best for us , read "Rich Dad Poor Dad" .
I graduated from college in July 2021, & didnt join a Masters program like my friends, instead took up freelancing & Content creation, & in past 4 months I have earned through freelancing, engaged and spoken to folks, founders & influencers beyond imagination. I will continue to read books, learn, create content, earn & invest. Will be back to this comment & video in one year❤ to remind myself where it all started from. Thank you Ankur. You are the biggest inspiration & support I could ever have.
This video just gave me a new perspective of life. I was thinking of taking a gap year when my school was over. But my father told me that I can take a gap year only when I am preparing for any JEE Main. I didn't want to prepare for JEE Main and I didn't have that much courage and belief in myself that I can convince my father. That's why I took honours. Now I am in first year and I have a side hustle where I am learning affiliate marketing as it seemed attractive to me. I want to do a start up after my bachelor's. But I want to give myself a year to prepare myself for start up after watching your startup myths video. And after watching this video, I realised that I may rethink and recreate my career plans as I am not sure if I will be happy or not after starting up. So yeah, I am going to take a gap year after completing my bachelor's. And now I think I can convince my father for it. Thank you so much for adding this perspective and now I can think more clearly about my gap year decision.
My wife had a break in her career for 2 years and we realized a lot of things during that time. We appreciated the job we had, appreciated the value of money and savings, understood our family and the support system we had, discovered her aspirations and long term focus. Collectively we decided to move back to India and start afresh. And now I am going to launch a startup to help people on career break! We have watched this journey closely and want to make this choice smooth for people! Great content as always Ankur! 😊
I didn't opted for gap year by choice but corona gave it as a gift to me. I was doing my btech in computer science and had a dream to become entrepreneur but after doing a few internships in marketing found that its the field which is made for me. Currently doing internship with 4 startups and learning new things daily the the great thing is that all the startup with whom I am working with are tremendously happy with my work.
2020 almost for me was pretty much like a gap year. I wasn’t really getting work from office and invested that time to do courses about things I genuinely had some interest in and then did 2-3 internships at the same time, read books, meditated, exercised and so much more. I believe I’m more self aware than ever. So thankful to 2020 that gave me the opportunity to spend so much time with myself. Now I don’t have a roadmap of what I’ll be doing, but I certainly have a direction in which I’ll be working for the next couple of years. Thank you Ankur for creating this video. I was confused about making a decision of leaving my current job and do internships in various fields to figure out what exactly it is that I want to do in my life. Surprisingly, I was talking to my parents last night only about taking some time off and going out to explore. Thank you, just thank you.
Well, am a doctor and have completed my masters in 2020. Quite courageously I opted for a gap year and it’s going well. Am reading your book recommendations and have joined acting classes, something I always wanted to do. I am figuring out stuff I will be interested in for my entire life ahead. Thanks for your inputs. They added up a lot. Especially spending time with ourselves. It just clicked me like anything ❤️
It’s my second week of gap year. I am currently living in US. Came here 5 year’s back. I have 10 years experience worked 5 year’s in India then came to US. Worked in a big 4 consulting firm. And then realized, what I am doing is not making me happy in a day to day life. I was miserable, dragging myself everyday to office and returning unsatisfied each day. I was not looking for promotions or becoming Manager. When I asked question to myself, where do I see myself in 5 years, it was definitely not in consulting world. finally after, a lot of thinking, decided to take a gap year. Read about it and found that it is very common in Europe and becoming common in US as well. Definitely it was hard to explain people around you. I am 30 year old and the comments I got from people and family members around me are- ‘Are you planning to have a baby?’, ‘Are you ok?’, ‘you have great job they will give you bonus in 5 months stay’ and so on...But it is my life, I don’t need a break to have baby to justify my break. Nonetheless, I am lucky and fortunate that I have supportive Husband, friends and parents, who are like , yes you worked hard a lot, you deserve this break!! And finally I resigned. This is my 2nd week. Trying to do things which I always thought doing when I had no time. Enjoying my own company, focusing on myself, building new skills. I am not sure what is going to happen after a year, I am sure I will be in better place than I was before. I will let you know how my journey goes!!! Life is a short journey so live with no regret and give yourself a chance to find out what you want. I read this beautiful quote in hindi ‘Manzil Milegi bhatak kar hi sahi, gumraah tho vo hain jo ghar se nikle hi nahi’.
NEET and JEE scores are valid for same year only, But here is a hack, You join a college through NEET/JEE/Other Exam, then stop going to college for a year, Later If you think you should continue college, then go for it if not then leave your college. But if you join your college back, they will tell as you don't have required attendance you have to continue from 1st year. Eventually you will lose a year but you will have clarity.

It means that lockdown was my gap year !!! I did all these things and that's how I discovered Ankur sir's profile on Twitter and then jumped to his RUclips channel. BTW, thank you sir for always helping us.
I'm half way in my gap year and realised that I am in one after watching your video 😊 this definitely will keep me motivated. I'm also in process of finding an internship, also doing a online live course. Hopefully will get to know what I really want to do in life. Thanks Ankur👍
Hi Ankur, Very relevant video. I am in my early 40s, with every passing year, I feel the need for courage is increasing possibly because of responsibilities and the financial freedom. Also I realise many time we don't assess our current freedom realistically and delay the decisions like the decision for gap year. We are possibly much more free than we think. Thanks for posting it.. It has triggered really insightful thoughts.
I have been in depression past 4 years also obesed since childhood and currently in my final year of Comp Engg but not interested in coding nd also 0 confidence to give interview for jobs. All this is taking toll on my mental health. So this year I've decided I'll focus on my physical and mental health both and also explore new things and try to find my passion. I had already made this decision of drop but wasn't sure ..as you mentioned the fomo thing...and courage that require to do this. But after watching this video I'm very positive and confirmed abt this decision of mine. To all those who are planning to take a year gap and explore more I wish all your wishes may come true and it will happen you need to just believe in yourself follow the path where your heart 💖 leads you to and do it with your mind to complete your goals. You can do it if only you *BELIEVE in YOURSELF* 👍👍👍 I'll definitely update a year later on how my gap year was😄 All the best to everyone exploring themselves out there 😀❤️🔥🔥🔥 May your dreams come true🤞🤞🤞💫
I took a career break, that became a gap year, then came a really low point in life in the form of the pandemic, and then I started freelancing as a side hustle and now I feel pretty happy with freelancing as a career.
I am in 12th, right now. I will graduate from school in 2022. 2020 was such a wild year, it was not too great for me. My Physical and mental health is at the lowest and I have never been this unclear and anxious. A literal year of no human contact got to me. I love psychology. My plan was to pursue it but there is just so much more. Also, I want a break from school. If I start with college, then it's another 9-11 years of school. I love the subject and I would love to do it but I want to explore other things too. Just yesterday, I talked about taking a gap year with a couple of people and I got purely negative responses. I have humanities and I was asked/told that 'why do you need a year?'; 'you have such limited choices already' and that 'it's not practical. I have the luxury to take a gap year and I want to figure things out and (as you said) who I am. I was feeling kind of down after that interaction but this video made me feel more confident and thank you for that. If you are reading this and you experienced what I did, I would say just ignore all the voices and listen to yourself. It is your life, you are the one who is going to go through all of it, not someone else. Your needs matter, your mental health matters and you matter!
And the same thing is happening with me .... And I also want to take gap year because I am literally mentally exhausted because of 12th and study pressure and all but I don't know how to convince my father because I am he will deny it ...
You are right sir. I also explore myself in last year. But I didn't know that called gap year. It benefit me a lot. I know myself. I spend time myself. Really it helps me a lot. And finally i got my passion. I really enjoy my journey.
I have experience of 6 months gap. Technically gap half year. But I was on 6 month sabbatical. Here are few learnings. 1. Mindful of distractions. Avoid procrastination to entertain yourself and feel guilty or low because of it. 2. Explain parents that your work is important . I have experience my parents thinking I am sitting@ home. So my work can be adjusted any time. These were pitfalls when I realized and corrected them next 5 months were gem. 1 month of solo trip which I was reluctant as I thought it can wait until I rejoin company. But it was best experience as I met many travellers who changed my perspective and solo cycling ride gave me hours of time with me. Learned discipline when you don't have fixed curriculum or project you need to be your own manager. Holding yourself accountable for tasks predetermined. As your boss or teachers used to. I found new interest in stoicism after reading mediation by Marcus Aurelius. And dug deep in similar books as a student which would have been difficult with active job. Which also changed my perspective towards life. When back in corporate i thank that decision as with those learnings i have new clarity about direction i want to lead my life toward. I want to end my comment with. "Pehle istemal kare fir vishwas kare." Good luck for amazing experience waiting for you in your gap year.
15:15 sir may be youtube isn't social networking site but it also adds so much meaning to our life if used in a correct manner. Even sir, I am exploring youtube, I found out there is so much to learn from RUclips but people are not paying attention towards that. Still major part of RUclips is unexplored I think.

My experience of gap year guys was a mixed bag. I took the gap year between 2016-2017 to prepare for my MBA entrance and I am thankful that it did helped me explore and build my knowledge in learning about the business. I did a lot of photography on a daily basis which helped me take a decision that although I like it as a hobby but it's not something I would like to build a career in. However, during my campus placements, I was really not able to convince the interviewers well about my gap year which I feel did let me lose some of the roles/jobs that I aspired to join. Part of it is because I did not had much things to show on paper about my time during the gap year. But I did spend a lot of time thinking with myself. If I have to do it all over again, I would take the gap year but with much better planning like Ankur mentioned by doing live projects/internship etc. Also to add, the effect of FOMO is real guys, you do need a good amount of 'courage'!!
I’ve learnt more in my gap year interning at 2 companies than I have during all of my schooling life. Taking a GAP was easily one of the best decisions in my life and would highly recommend anyone to take one.
Great views Ankur! I think every student after their school/college should take a gap year to figure out what they really wanna do in life. In India, it seems there is no concept of self-awareness and self-exploration and so people follow the same old rat race! And more parents need to understand this concept so as to help their child to live a fulfilled life. :D Great content. very inspiring.
I'm on a Gap Year but I'm unknown from it because I have completed my 12th in March=2019 but I'm learning Skills and that's gave me Really a Peace and Motivation ❤️
I took a gap of two years in studies and education and I am happy with the amount of perspective I got during that time period 😇. I am doing very well in life now achieveing best grades in college and also doing extra curriculars and so on.

Before this video, I didn't know about the term "Gap Year". In Sept 2020 I've just completed my graduation and got a chance for my masters. Then I decided to take a break from M.Sc for now. During the year of COVID, I found myself enjoying the process editing a video, learned about techniques and many other things related to video editing, audio editing, industry-related VFX & so many things like this. In this year I start implementing these things by taking little footsteps.
Another great content and a much needed one. You so rightly said people do take breaks but mostly for preparation of exams or under pressure. I am currently on a break due to unforeseen reasons but then I am really looking forward to work my skills, my hobbies and things which I could never do as a student or a working professional. This is giving me a new sense of direction as to where I see myself in future
Totally, i think i have become alot self aware i have ever been in my entire life, i may not be able to see visible changes now, but they are all life changing, i know and i am alot thankful for all of this.
Also, Internships are the best way to learn any skill. Today, experience in real-life problems/projects is far far more valuable than hundreds of certificates gained from online courses.
Ankur, almost all thing you said is correct. But in my opinion, clarity during teenage will last till about next 10 years. Not lifelong. Our priorities get changed largely in a decade time. So one has to evaluate his or her state of mind seriously in a decade time.
Ankur sir Hats off for selection of title. Entirety untouched and out of league.... But need your support over how to conquer the infiriority complex pratically.Because this is the biggest huddle to convince oneself.
So true. I took a drop year after pursuing science and having done a IIT-JEE coaching as well. Well I did those things but I never felt true joy while studying about sciences. Mind you it's not that I don't like sciences of don't find it fascinating, I do. But I don't love it. So I took a drop year, decided to pursue commerce, worked hard and got into the second best college (Christ University) in the country, and now I'm striving hard to become a professional options trader, eventually being self employed in trading, also might guessed which I absolutely love doing. I can sit hours in front of the screen just looking at the stock prices, and I just love it. It doesn't bore me. So if you ask me am I behind time in achieving some of the things/financial stability my friends have achieved through a job? Maybe not. But I have gained much more into knowing myself, and that's way more meaningful to have in life rather than just getting into it. So go for it whoever was wondering in the comments section, "umm should I"? Regards.
One of the best content I can relate too!! I am currently in a gap year!! I shifted from Sales & Marketing to Business Analyst after 6 years as I am a engineering graduate with MBA in IT I took a gap of 8 months for shift and did online courses to brush up my skills back and I am still learning in new job I had almost came down to half of my previous salary in new role.
I am in 11th rn and i think 2020 gave me that gape yrs that i needed. I think this was one of the best yrs till date. I mediated, started to excercise, started learning to code and much more. Interning and networking is on my list once I complete my schooling. Cheers!
Sir it would be great if you make a video on the topic of gap year just after graduation(engineering in my case) ! What will be the consequences! Effects on job opportunities after the gap year etc.

I have seen your earlier video where you talked about exploring in 20s, i thoroughly thought about it and decided to do it and now the concept of gap year complements it Although, i read a lot and started exploring myself spiritually and emotionally also
Hi Rohit, Exactly same is/was the case with me... It started last year... This year also it continued almost like that only... I also explored spiritual and emotional sides of mine.. I know myself so so much better now and that hugely enables me also to grow, to change for good. What's up with you these days as your comment is 1 year old?

Maybe in future I may also pursue psychology or some other educational degree😉
@@samriddhirastogi Good to hear that from you. I left CA for some time thinking of doing psychology with utmost focus and determination and doing a job alongside for the financial freedom. But after some incident and i decided to fucking complete at any cost. Now I'm doing both although focusing more on clearing exams. I believe you've got so strong and at the same point responsible enough to understand the need of the hour, taking such a decision is difficult requires lot of courage and determination. I know you must've have reasons for not continuing it. I'd love to know your story. May be we can connect over WhatsApp and take this conversation forward. Btw, I'm chatting with someone for the first time on RUclips 😂
Things I learnt from here... Need to spare quality time for me.. wish to go solotrail n explore not just to fill social media posts ... look after LinkedIn Twitter content, n learn something out of it.. no comparison with others where they ahead.. thnkx sir❤️
m working professional planned for gap year. 6 months passed now i have full clarity on personal finance, health and job vs business. now going to learn some thing new in next 6 months. m really happy you can explore many things like hobbies, meditations, travelling, farming, a start up POC Project. this will make you fulfilled n hopeful for the next 5 years. you can say mini retirement is better than full retirement.
Thank you so much sir, I was thinking of taking a gap year but was very anxious thinking about the what ifs, but your video brought a lot of clarity. Really grateful to you.
God.. I need this video... Going through the same thing... I worked as a Software developer.. Then iI opened my Café.. Then I have to close it due to Covid situations... After that I started thinking about me... Spend some time on meditation and menifestation... Read some amazing books .. Then i understood I will be most happy in doing marketing and also loves number crunching...so decided to go for marketing analytics...
the total amount by which you can learn from your network, the shared content by learning individuals is always a dependable and compounding source of knowledge
I also went through the same. It was very tough to take decision on what to do and not or the gap. Thanks for sharing with new generation Ankur. I am thinking of taking break for study further. This video is at right time for me. Thank you..
I don't have Instagram account from past 8months and I was quite active on twitter and LinkedIn. Where I found experienced and intellectual people and I am very greatful about it.
Ankur this video is yours is still relevant today and will always be! I am glad I have been seeing your videos and you put so much effort to put things into our life. I am a working professional and a gap year (a few months) in my case, made me calm and help me to reflect on my blessings. I find rat running a zero-sum game.
Some thoughts on structuring the gap year would've been great. I know this would be a decision that would leave me thinking about it at least for a month after taking it. In that case, a bit more clarity or preparation before the gap year needs to be addressed. I think you missed on that note. More videos on this topic please!
Sir i took a gap year. I mean i was preparing for neet. But during lock down as classes were closed. I discovered a lot thing i talked to seniors of the subject i liked connected on quora, messgaed them. Now i took admission in audiology n speech language pathology. This course is little known in India. Moreover i didnt had to prepare separately for its entrance. I scored air28. Now i m in national institute of speech and hearing Kolkata. Now i m learning about the congintive sci, psychology, neuro science. There is a lot do in these fields. Now even IIT has opened cognitive science department in 2021.
I am short of words How much I relate to every thought coming from you Ankur Sir. And that too when I am done with 3 internships during covid and exploring all my interests through 100+ Coursera Certificates but later on realised I don't feel like sharing the certificates but was driven by the sake of doing it. The only thought which haunts me now is going to college again : ( I feel like that toy example was specially for mee 😅 I no longer want to lose this new self of mine and lose the spark in my eyes.
I have taken a gap year for 2021 to take of my sick child so doing internships might be good options or reading content that will help when I m ready in 2022 . Good perspective sir hats off
Sir you can't imagine how helpful this video was for me...I wish I could have thought about this earlier...I am taking a gap from work and Thanking you in advance 🙏
I desperately needed gap years, so, I wanted to work freelance after my +2, but my parents wanted me to join a college, I did join the college, but I'm kinda using my college years as gap year, discovering all kind of things, attending only those classes that I find interesting, meeting and discussing with all kinds of people and studying only to pass the tests. Just the one thing I'm having difficulty is with club activities, like, it's a very tech based club, and people are so nice, I wanna be helpful and supportive, I don't want to leave it but I do know that tech is not where I want myself to be, even science maybe.
In my graduatie course i failed in 2 or 3 subjects. I got agap year😁 after the course.Doesn't needed to convince anyone, also learned deeply about the subject and explored my life at the same time. I don't know about my career but surely this gap year has wide opened my perspectives.
So lots of of people sharing their experience of gap year.I'm also want to share my experience as I would take a 1 year gap from my studies(actually I won't take it but bcz of lockdown i think everyone take it,but after watching this video i genuinely take 6 months gap for exploring myself) . . Bcz of lockdown i would get a chance to Knowing myself and now i think it is best thing ,it help me explore what is best for me or what is not,i learn new skills (digital marketing),i also spend time lonely to Knowing myself, read books,do exercise. . . Whoever see this comment I genuinely advised you to take a gap year after your 12th ,it is best thing Believe me.😊
I wasn't planning on taking a gap year but it happened as a blessing in disguise... would suggest to take that leap and you will surely thank this video..100%✓
Mr. Ankur Warikoo, I accidentally came across your LinkedIn profile yesterday and started following you. Since then, I am continuously watching your videos and I think, I am addicted to your videos. Maybe you can make a video on how to stop watching videos and get back to work! Haha. Just kidding! What an amazing man you are! The way you speak, inspire and motivate people is just outstanding. Your choice of words is simple, yet so powerful. You are just awesome, keep inspiring the world 😊
If anyone is confused to take gap for iitjee or not here is the guide -- Just count yes for each question 1. If you really think you have missed some interesting concepts rather than just dropping for iit. 2. If you think due to some situation you couldn't study. 3. If you have scored less than 70% in board. 4. If you think daily about not scoring and studying in last year. And have a new plan Following list is for not dropping 1. If you use too much social media
Apart from the content, the cardigan’s blue colour is just awesome and suits you so well 👌 I recently got a chance to take a break because of my gardening leave and it was refreshing but also stressful for different reasons. Have some suggestions: Can you keep the videos short - 10 minutes max? Maybe divide it into 2 videos? This is becoz we don’t always get to watch it at one go. Also, can you do a video on what people in 30s, 40s, or 50s can do in a gap year? Although I am thinking if we even can have such a gap year at these age groups given the family responsibilities that come about. Lots of best wishes!!🙏
My experience is not like a gap year maybe a gap year don't know 😂 but i didn't joined college and didn't wasted my time on shitty thinking like 22 or 23 guys are doing I'm 20 by the way. I explored courses and after spending so much time I opt for accountancy by the way I never passed in accounts in school after 11th I was kicked from school then I studied in open school and that thing that gave me time that gave me freedom to explore that's why I choosed for open university also. And during this lockdown a beautiful thing happened to me, it's my relationship my relationship become too too much strong we had lots of fight for in the beginning but now we both are planning to start business to buy house after 45 or 50 as per ankur sir we both watch his video❤️. And we are planning to become financially responsible and strong. And I will explore my whole 20's Till now I'm learning about finance, marketing and sales, stock marketing, bodybuilding and looking forward to explore these things after accountancy Keep exploring and stay positive there are 1000s of reason to become negative.
After 2019 I completed my Post Graduate. I was confused what to do next... Either go for a job or go for PhD. Unfortunately my parents were supported but not the society... But me was like 'society ka farak hi nhi padta...' In 1 whole year I traveled, I research in way of PhD study and job either gov or private(start-up or corporate). After 1yr I was confident to for start-ups n got in August 2020. But tough time after 7,8 months bcause of parents were also taken their hands down.🤐🤐🤐 Right now I pretty much clear with my goals.😇
I think a factor that becomes a problem for a lot of people, especially in India, is the location you reside permanently in. Most of the good exploration opportunities is concentrated in metro cities, and to consider ‘unpaid’ or ‘lowly paid’ internships in these locations becomes a major hole in the pocket. Granted now there are remote work possibilities, but most firms still require you to be close to the office and attend every once in a while.
Hello @AnkurWarikoo The type of content you post, is absolutely relevant to what is happening in the real world. All these videos help me lower my anxiety issues. Every video of yours broadens my perspective towards life & weirdly enough i talk to my parents with a whole lot more respect. So when i saw this change in myself, i just wanted to let you know, it’s because of you. Thankyou @Warikoo.
Well, I was in a position to take a gap year, but then 2020 happened... I couldn't;t escape from the regular "zoom" classes that college forced students to attend, but I definitely did learn a lot about myself, so I would call it Partial Gap year.. One major take away from this video is that , we need to constantly reflect and I'd add documentation too
I am currently in my gap year and it's going great .
Reading new books , exploring myself , doing activities like meditation and workout regularly , experiencing new things came to know a lot about myself in this time .
Awesome
Great decision
Same bruhhhh! I was confused too ...
Mere family middle-class hai but they understood my feelings... I tried a lot of things... Cuz of corona nd all... But I'm glad now that i took gap...
Wow, keep going! ✨

Thank samyak sir, please tell me more that I can explore on such thing.
In India even internships are done for competitive advantage
True 👌👍

after watching, I can say my lockdown was actually a gap year : ) (still, 2 months left)
Mine too 😁🥰🥰
exactly!!! ,I was thinking about the same!!..😶
Same
Same is the case with me 👍 and I am proud of it

I genuinely wanna thank you Ankur for making me feel okay, literally 🔥
Keep sharing your experiences and insights like this please💯
I've been working since 2018 even before i graduated from college but now after almost working for 2 years i started thinking that where am i heading and because of that i have decided to take a gap year. I still need to serve 3 more months notice period out of 6. Who ever is thinking to take a gap year i want to tell you just one thing that our mind needs some space to grow and taking a break will give that space. Life is really simple guys, let's not make it complicated by over committing to so many tasks. Once we start thinking with a free mind there is nothing in this world we can't achieve. Just belive in yourself and you will win the game :)
Bro that was motivating. Thanks💝
Good to know that we share same circumstances, I have just resigned recently. I am not knowing what is ahead. But will move ahead with courage. Courage to you as well.
@@brajat5538 Thanks mate
tomorrow is my last working day and I am about to take gap after working 3 years after my graduation.
Thanks so much for sharing :)
Brilliant
How do you explain to HRs?
Hara Prasad sir, I have also taken one year gap so please guide me little bit about freelancing bidding 🙏
And in the last 1.5 years (the gap year) I traveled the Himalayas, stayed at an Ashram as a monk, volunteered, started up 2 companies, invested in the stock market, played a lot of sports and finally decided that I love ideation and problem solving and hence want to get into product roles now :)
The gap year, a slightly extended on for me has given me the most important thing in my life and that is 'How do I want to live it keeping the social pressures and structures aside 🙏
It is so good that someone who is 'successful' in the socially accepted sense is making a video about 'getting out of the race' to figure where do you want to make a journey.

GATE, GMAT, GRE is valid for >1 Year. CAT, JEE (M,Adv), BITSAT, NEET are valid only for 1 year.
Thanks, Ankur warikoo,
this helps me a lot, and I love to hear your thinking and wisdom about life.
Key takeaways from my side:
- For a lot of things, we usually don't get clarity that easily.
- We end up being consumed with completing all the milestones that society has laid down for us without really asking, "do we want to do what we are doing in the first place?", "is it making me happy?"
- What should be done in the gap year?
- Explore
- The reason that we are taking a gap year is usually that we are confused.
- To understand what we genuinely enjoy, we have to try different things.
- Best way to do that:
- Internships
- Don't go behind the stipend, the company/person's brand.
- See if you are feeling challenged, are you learning something, are you learning more about yourself - optimise for this.
- Network:
- Instagram is where you go to chill - don't waste your time there.
- Spend time with yourself:
- Most important thing
- Fundamental objective of the gap year is to know yourself - what you enjoy doing and what you don't.
- One thing you'll need to execute this: courage
- there will be a lot of FOMO from seeing other people progressing through their lives.
- we'll feel pressured about staying behind by an year.
- we are going to work for 50 years. if we spend 1 year out of those 50 to figure out what we want to do, it is totally worth the investment.
I want to bookmark this comment :) (Sadly, youtube doesn't offer bookmarking the comment option)
I'm starting my gap year from today.
I'll look out for internships n will explore time with myself.
Brilliant
I have gone through the same thing and i left around oct too .But i dont know how to convince my parents , so i pretend to look for jobs and do research on things i want

Gap year ya gap month Har chij Ke liye patience sabse jyada jaruri hai kyon ki ye patience hi h jo humko aage badhne ke liye motivate krti hai

You can do it if only you *BELIEVE in YOURSELF* 👍👍👍
I'll definitely update a year later on how my gap year was😄 All the best to everyone exploring themselves out there 😀❤️🔥🔥🔥 May your dreams come true🤞🤞🤞💫
"Pehle istemal kare fir vishwas kare."
Good luck for amazing experience waiting for you in your gap year.
15:15 sir may be youtube isn't social networking site but it also adds so much meaning to our life if used in a correct manner. Even sir, I am exploring youtube, I found out there is so much to learn from RUclips but people are not paying attention towards that. Still major part of RUclips is unexplored I think.
Bro you don't have any idea what you are missing out on

@@indukumari2533 agreed... But I was talking from learning point of view
@@themoneylancer the total amount by which you can learn from the shared content by learning individuals is always a dependable and compounding source of knowledge
Thanks for sharing your experience. Extremely valuable
I’ve learnt more in my gap year interning at 2 companies than I have during all of my schooling life.
Taking a GAP was easily one of the best decisions in my life and would highly recommend anyone to take one.
Awesome
Can vouch for the truth behind every single line! Knowing yourself is the base solution for most of our problems.
Really appreciate your thoughts .... But the thing with parents won't be as smooth , their taunt on regular basis won't help us
Great views Ankur! I think every student after their school/college should take a gap year to figure out what they really wanna do in life. In India, it seems there is no concept of self-awareness and self-exploration and so people follow the same old rat race! And more parents need to understand this concept so as to help their child to live a fulfilled life. :D
Great content. very inspiring.
❤️
I'm on a Gap Year but I'm unknown from it because I have completed my 12th in March=2019 but I'm learning Skills and that's gave me Really a Peace and Motivation ❤️
I took a gap of two years in studies and education and I am happy with the amount of perspective I got during that time period 😇. I am doing very well in life now achieveing best grades in college and also doing extra curriculars and so on.
Awesome
Hi sir I saw this vidio today only I want to do this thing It is amazing for me and I will also encourage to my friends do this thing.Awesome vidio for students Thank you sir Thank you
bhaiya mai bhi gap year mein hun lekin sahi tareeka ye hai ki pehle aap kuch internships karo aur finance ke baare mein saari jaankari lo jo bohot zaroori hai maine 5 saal tak apna paisa FDs mein daala abhi bhi 40 percent mere portfolio ka FDs mein hai lekin baaki Share market mein hai koi bhi acha mauka milte hi Stocks mein investment badha dunga using Dip Strategy
After watching this video, I'm thinking my lockdown is a GAP YEAR for me.
Because in lockdown....
I do 2 internship and courses. Also explore myself.
Also, Internships are the best way to learn any skill. Today, experience in real-life problems/projects is far far more valuable than hundreds of certificates gained from online courses.
I shared this video to my parents and got them to approve it if needed, thanks ^_^
Left my well paid consulting job just to explore new things.. and believe me there are much more to explore and world is much more beautiful than 9 to 9 job where you don't find any thing for your self.. For working professional 🙏🙏 please take risk...please think beyond 20 percent increment and 10% bonus.. 🙏
Ankur sir your content has really shaped my thinking process....a big bow to you🙏❤️
I shifted from Sales & Marketing to Business Analyst after 6 years as I am a engineering graduate with MBA in IT
I took a gap of 8 months for shift and did online courses to brush up my skills back and I am still learning in new job
I had almost came down to half of my previous salary in new role.
Hey Vaibhav , that's a great shift !!
Wht a topic sir.....mai bhi same soch kr gap year liya.....sir u became my favrt....day by day...🥰🥰🥰
I completely agree with you Ankur. Being active on Linkedin has helped me a lot in being aware of the endless things happening in the world. And I am planning to start my Twitter journey too soon. And as always, this video was incredible. You are changing lives. Keep posting such awesome content.
Ankur, You're damn right
I am 25 doing CA, I've completed my articleship but i haven't appeared for the Final exams. I'm not able to study, sometimes I don't feel like going further with it
I have a lot of confusion these days
I don't know where my life is heading.
I have seen your earlier video where you talked about exploring in 20s, i thoroughly thought about it and decided to do it and now the concept of gap year complements it
Although, i read a lot and started exploring myself spiritually and emotionally also
Hi Rohit,
Exactly same is/was the case with me... It started last year... This year also it continued almost like that only... I also explored spiritual and emotional sides of mine.. I know myself so so much better now and that hugely enables me also to grow, to change for good.
What's up with you these days as your comment is 1 year old?
@@samriddhirastogi I was always interested in human behaviour, why do people behave the way they behave, somewhere i got introduced to psychology but couldn't take the step to continue it.
But finally this year i've enrolled myself in MA Psychology and it is amazing experience so far now.
What're your thoughts on that?
@@rohityadav06ry I feel I am talking to my copy (at least in these fields). Even I am very interested in human behaviours, analysis, understanding emotions and all.
It's amazing you took that call 🔥🔥🔥All the best man 👍
Personally I don't want to get involved in any educational degree right now because I need financial freedom.
@@rohityadav06ry if you don't mind can you share your email or linkedin id.. maybe we can connect there if you want
Read some amazing books
.. Then i understood I will be most happy in doing marketing and also loves number crunching...so decided to go for marketing analytics...
Need one more advise from you... Companies are not accepting me either for internship... Any suggestions?

I also went through the same. It was very tough to take decision on what to do and not or the gap. Thanks for sharing with new generation Ankur. I am thinking of taking break for study further. This video is at right time for me. Thank you..
I too am in my gap year and I hope it will turn out well! Being Optimistic :)
I'm in my gap year. It's a bumpy ride. Lot of things I've done which I never believed that I can. Workouts, meditations and writing is very helpful.
I love how he vibrates at an energy level
Some thoughts on structuring the gap year would've been great. I know this would be a decision that would leave me thinking about it at least for a month after taking it. In that case, a bit more clarity or preparation before the gap year needs to be addressed. I think you missed on that note.
More videos on this topic please!
Nicely pointed out,
I felt the same
Sir i took a gap year.
The only thought which haunts me now is going to college again : (
I feel like that toy example was specially for mee 😅
I no longer want to lose this new self of mine and lose the spark in my eyes.
I have taken a gap year for
2021 to take of my sick child so doing internships might be good options or reading content that will help when I m ready in 2022 .
So lots of of people sharing their experience of gap year.I'm also want to share my experience as I would take a 1 year gap from my studies(actually I won't take it but bcz of lockdown i think everyone take it,but after watching this video i genuinely take 6 months gap for exploring myself)
.
.
Bcz of lockdown i would get a chance to Knowing myself and now i think it is best thing ,it help me explore what is best for me or what is not,i learn new skills (digital marketing),i also spend time lonely to Knowing myself, read books,do exercise.
.
.
Whoever see this comment I genuinely advised you to take a gap year after your 12th ,it is best thing
Believe me.😊
I am already taken a gap year and that is the best time where I found my self found my potential
I wasn't planning on taking a gap year but it happened as a blessing in disguise... would suggest to take that leap and you will surely thank this video..100%✓
lots of thankyou sir.. 🙏
This video really helped me and clear my mindset..
Sir u r sooooo good in connecting with every kind of peer grp....
You are just awesome, keep inspiring the world 😊
Loved this video❤️ The courage part is really difficult to gain🙏🙏
felt so relatable at 22:31 after attempting yesterday's LinkedIn Poll :)
If anyone is confused to take gap for iitjee or not here is the guide --
Just count yes for each question
1. If you really think you have missed some interesting concepts rather than just dropping for iit.
2. If you think due to some situation you couldn't study.
3. If you have scored less than 70% in board.
4. If you think daily about not scoring and studying in last year. And have a new plan
Following list is for not dropping
1. If you use too much social media
Apart from the content, the cardigan’s blue colour is just awesome and suits you so well 👌
I recently got a chance to take a break because of my gardening leave and it was refreshing but also stressful for different reasons.
Have some suggestions:
Can you keep the videos short - 10 minutes max?
And I will explore my whole 20's
Till now I'm learning about finance, marketing and sales, stock marketing, bodybuilding and looking forward to explore these things after accountancy
Keep exploring and stay positive there are 1000s of reason to become negative.
This is really appreciable :)
I have and taking a gap year this time!
_Discovering the Natural Me_ :)
After 2019 I completed my Post Graduate. I was confused what to do next... Either go for a job or go for PhD.
Unfortunately my parents were supported but not the society...
But me was like 'society ka farak hi nhi padta...'
In 1 whole year I traveled, I research in way of PhD study and job either gov or private(start-up or corporate).
After 1yr I was confident to for start-ups n got in August 2020.
But tough time after 7,8 months bcause of parents were also taken their hands down.🤐🤐🤐
Right now I pretty much clear with my goals.😇
I think a factor that becomes a problem for a lot of people, especially in India, is the location you reside permanently in. Most of the good exploration opportunities is concentrated in metro cities, and to consider ‘unpaid’ or ‘lowly paid’ internships in these locations becomes a major hole in the pocket. Granted now there are remote work possibilities, but most firms still require you to be close to the office and attend every once in a while.
Hello @AnkurWarikoo
The type of content you post, is absolutely relevant to what is happening in the real world.
