    Nice job Chris, and I'm sure we've both had ''customer supplied material'' that was a whole lot worse, FWIW4340 is very close to our Brit EN24 and IME that machined very very much like our EN24 T (heat treated)

    Well, you either got this job because someone hates you, or you're the most adaptable there.
    That material looks like it's been temperature abused and some shXX has cooked on... who knows what the temper of that "stuff" is...

    Its a through hardening steel and you didnt think to get it re-annealed or check it hadn't been hardened? Thats on you.
