buddy really just said, "The volcano that made dinosaurs go extinct"
Omg I thought I was smoking there for a second 💀💀💀😂🤣
That’s actually been a leading theory for a while, but it and the asteroid are disagreed upon. I don’t think the volcanic theory was popular when the gen 2 games were made though.

Yeh soon as I heard that I knew this was trash.
Either way, I think Cyndaquil just represents the small rodents such as mice, squirrels, moles, gophers, etc that were able to survive the asteroid or volcanic extinction event because of their small size and being able to hide underground. These small rodents would then evolve into the present day larger mammals.
Gen 2 - literally dinosaurs

There's no way people still think a volcano caused the dinosaurs to go extinct
Honestly this dude fumbled the bag with this video.
So lemme explain. at the end of the Permian- Triassic there was a massive extinction event. We aren’t 100% sure what caused it but it’s believed to be a combination of super volcanoes erupting and the meteor impact. There is strong evidence in the rock layers to support both of these, and the combo hit would explain why so many creatures died. These volcanoes would’ve probably triggered extensive earthquakes and tsunamis killing off more animals. Hope you learned something from this

@@SocramOlrak Wrong, the meteor killing the dinosaurs has been the common theory for a LONG time. It was so engrained in pop-culture that TV Shows and movies were referencing it even in the early 90s, and the theory came to like in the 70s. Every kid born in the US in the 80s grew up accepting an asteroid killing the dinosaurs as an absolute truth.
Judging from your profile pic though I assume you were taught that Capitalism killed the Dinosaurs.
@@SocramOlrak Your 'Nondescript country' isn't the world either Fez. Don't try to cover for your for yourself for not knowing something so basic, it's been in American popculture for well over thirty years, way before pokemon. And USA is basically "The World" when it comes to pop-culture in the entertainment we produce; Outside of Anime from Japan, what other nation's media has such international reach?
If you asked people what killed the dinosaurs, 'meteor/asteroid' was the answer anyone gave noone knew anything about volcanic eruptions, all of the tv shows and movies at the time said it was. It was uncontested, were no competing theories on it. Nothing in pop culture anyway (Because I know you'll probably google some scientists article written in the 60's as "proof")
The fact that you call it "Asteroid theory" means this is probably something relatively new to you in particular, so, it must not have been "well-known" by the ENTIRE WORLD.
By 1999-2000 it was and is considered a well-accepted fact by the majority of people who only have a passing knowledge of dinosaurs.
