  • The Lexus GS is no longer in production. The GS Lasted from 1993-2020 but ultimately failed due to the reasons I share in the video. I have reviewed several Lexus GS models, links below: GS 300 Review: • 2004 Lexus GS300 Revie... GS 350 F Sport Review: • 2015 Lexus GS 350 F Sp...
What made the Lexus GS so special for many years was its rear-wheel-drive dynamics coupled with the legendary Lexus reliability. The GS is highly coveted in the used car market, but Lexus may revive the GS in the future. Also, see my 250k mile review on a GS 350: • 2013 Lexus GS 350....2...

I own a low-miles 2015 GS350 AWD and absolutely love it. I've owned a Corvette, 3 Porsches, and other sports cars.....but this car kicks ass, takes names and addresses. All the while it's incredibly comfortable. It'll throw you back in the seat when you need to, but it will pamper you as well. I'll keep this car until or unless it falls apart. I happen to make a handsome living but don't kid yourself; reliability is HUGE with me. Lexus, like Toyota, won't leave you stranded on the side of the road. Ending the GS is a major mistake for Lexus.

Local used car dealer won't sell BMW or Merc without an aftermarket warranty, and a talk with the buyer. He cares about his reputation. He said he honestly never had any issues with a GS /IS/ES/LS. Usually they have a good maintenance history and every customer is very happy and sends other business. He said there are small things like tire pressure sensors, brake rotors, or maybe minor cosmetic issues. Never engine or powertrain problems.

    2015 GS 350 F-Sport
The GS sadly never caught on, the ES was a much more attractive price point. I just never found it luxurious because it’s FWD.
I have a lot of great memories in all of those cars and I wish I could’ve learned how to drive in the 15 F-Sport but sadly he got rid of it right before I could drive. He got a brand new MB S550 in 17. First German car after being a loyal Lexus owner. I got my permit and learned how to drive in a new S-Class. Yea I know, lucky me, but the GS still had a place in my heart.
Once I got my license, it was time for me to find my own car, I really wanted a 14-15 GS F-Sport. Unfortunately, they were out of our price point for my first car and I settled for an MB E350. The Lexus holds their value much better than the MB. I still really want one.

30 years on the market is hardly a failure. The niche offering from Lexus that provides both sophisticated ride quality and a little bit of fun doing it. People talk about stats like torque, and horsepower and 0-60. When do you genuinely get to drive your vehicle to its max level and take advantage of those stats? Very rarely I'd wager. The GS was a unique offering in a crowded room of sedans that basically fell out of favor because people would rather have some ugly ass crossover rather than a sophisticated, fast, smooth, elegant sports car sedan.

Hi Kevin. Thanks again for that insight. I have a 2019 350 fsport AWD and the reason I appreciate it is because of the Big three; Luxury, Performance, and reliability. You are right about the people who buy this car. I am a hybrid type of person. I am frugal , but like quality things, and I like to consider my purchases carefully. I like to think that I scored a deal on a quality item. I don't have the need to spend to get a fix, but like to research to learn about quality and value. I hate the idea of wasting money, or the thought that I am constantly having to bleed my pockets 3fold to fix something that should not be broken. I picked up mine used . Saving about 18k vs a new one. I have the 6 speed, but honestly I can't be objective about the neutered effect since I basically came from a camry solara. I buy and keep my car for a long time. That's who these cars are for. Quite frankly, there are very few cars in that category. Owning it and knowing that it is safe along with the driving experience , with the refinement is what makes owning the GS a fantastic experience. Thanks again Kevin

@@TheBlastoise313 Hi Avery. The car is exactly the same on the inside, but on the outside, I feel it completely changes it's appearance. Some reviewers hated the look after the 2015 years. The triple beam changes all of that. Like putting a tux on the car. I also tried finding a 2017 to try and save a few bucks because with this car, even if you get one with 30000, you're still really good. It was difficult if not impossible to find. I almost bought a regular f sport, but a friend talked me out of it, and said I would regret it later. He was right because I really love what I am looking at every time I approach my car. It's your call. I think you can definitely score some out there in the mid to upper 30's $ with 25000 to 35000 miles no problem. With the triple beams, however, you will have to be prepared to travel. and pay a little more unless of course, you happen to luck out, and your neighbor across the street wants to sell his.

Recently, I was given a 2021 ES350 while my 2016 GSF was in for regular maintenance. Man the ES350 steering/handling and acceleration was subpar. Though it was quiet, comfortable, solid, and the info tech was improved... so in that regard I can see why the ES is preferred compared to the GS especially the F( 2016 didn’t have adjustable suspension so it can be rough). That being said I don’t see a reason to buy another Lexus sedan (I’d love the LC500 but I need a sedan) - it appears Lexus has abandoned their high-performance F marque for CUVS and cushy sedans, unless they surprise us all with a new ISF.

Lexus officially stated that they are pulling the GS lineup, at least for the North American market, due to consumers preferring SUV's, Crossovers and pickup trucks. These three type of vehicle classes account for almost 70% of vehicles sold today in America and that trend is increasing. As I write this comment, that trend could reverse if gas prices climb and stay there for several months due to the Russian/Ukrainian conflict. But we'll see.

Since the writing this post well over a year ago I actually purchased a E350 Sport 4matic in Steel Gray & it was a very nice car to own, actually more fuel efficient than my GS350. Still not sporty though, I ironically ending up buying a used black 2015 E63-S AMG 4matic and it was a blast to own and drive. It averages 17 mpg. I’ve never driven the Lexus GS-F for comparison sake, But automotive journalist Chris Harris is a huge fan of the GS-F please watch his GS-F video. Comparing the standard engine trim levels like the 3.5l V6 GS350 F sport vs the 3.5l V6 E350 Sport, the Lexus still win for driving dynamics, in my opinion it’s way more playful on back roads. Price point was never a factor in which car I wanted to own. But why would you take my word for it?

Wanna guess which car they preferred? GS 350 F Sport beat out the A6, 5er & won the competition. Yes for context you can argue the E350 Sport wasn’t included in comparison test. Your certainly entitled to your opinion & I’m entitled to mine. Thanks for chiming in, please have a awesome 2022.

I personally think the ES was the demise of the GS, the ES is bigger, has better tech, more interior room, better materials and still being cheaper, most everyday consumers don't really care that the GS has more power as they would never floor their car in their life they just see that the GS has an outdated interior and was more expensive than the ES, I think Lexus coul use the new Mirai and make bring it back as an EV or they restyle and bring it back as the Toyota Crown that is being sold in t chinese markets it's like the Avalon but it's RWD and a lot sportier and that platform underpins the new LS, and Mirai so it could work or better still just make the ES RWD and give it more power, I think that would satisfy both crowds and they won't need to have more or less the same cars with one just being RWD

Good review. We are seeing a fundamental shift in consumer behavior. The popularity of SUVs is one aspect. The other, in my view, is that most consumers these days want a premium badge, that's it. They're not interested in the driving dynamics.
That's why the vast majority of premium cars are sold with the most economical engine choice. In Europe, stats from a couple of years ago showed that around 80% of all BMW 5 Series sold were the 520d. Yes, that's the 2.0 four cylinder diesel. But, if someone asks them what car they drive, they will proudly respond " a BMW 5 Series", believing they bought the ultimate driving machine. It even gets more extreme with the 116d.

Such a nice looking interior, especially that brown leather. I think the new ES looks very competitive. It has all the charm to fill what ever void the GS has left behind. Similar size to the GS, has a fresh interior and very comfortable drive. I wonder if Lexus will ever release an ES-F, with like a turbo-V6 similar to that from the LS.. or a NA V8? If they wanted the ES-F to compete against German horsepower you'd think maybe a turbo V8 would be on its way sooner or later?

However, imo, the new one was very highly priced, like you mentioned in the video, even used ones are too expensive to buy. Lexus tried real hard to compete & go head to head with the BMW 5 & dished out a lot of money in its production. No one would simply buy a Lexus that's priced same as a BMW or the Benz. Same story with the LS, it's simply too expensive. Lexus only needs to put effort into making quality cars like they did in the 2000s (relatively cheap & most importantly, comfortable) because for me, it's in a league of it's own.
