    I just received my Partycade today and I'm also getting some audio stutter at the start of Galaga. If it is indeed a hardware issue that would be inexcusable. I recall playing this game using the MAME emulator about 20 years ago on an old AMD 500 MHZ CPU based PC with 64 MB of RAM without any hiccups. That said, the Partycade was a surprise gift from someone dear to me, and while the sound stutter issue in Galaga is mildly annoying, it's not enough of a deal breaker for me to have them pack it back up and send it back. The cabinet is really cool, and both PacMan and Galaxian work flawlessly. Like you, I'm a sucker for items like this.

      Late to this discussion, but agreed all around.
      I started with Mame sometime mid 90s one of the first versions.
      Newbies and younglings are sometimes surprised how long the emulation scene has been around.
      I started with 2600 and Colecovision emulation on dos 1995 or earlier, good old colem.
      Before that, the Atari ST and Amiga both had PC x86 emulators and Mac emulation.
      I was using both circa 1986-87.
      The St 8086 emulation was all software
      Quite slow, but enough to get basic dos apps you might have needed on occasion.
      Mac emulation ran 80s Mac apps faster than the Mac plus

    I realize this post is 2-years old, but I bought this unit, and happily, they have either solved these issues, or you got a Friday machine. (That's an old joke about bad cars! Hehe). Works quite well. My only sidebar is that a couple of the games seem to be just thrown in. Pac-Man, Galaga, Galaxian and Dig Dug are great. I don't think I even recall the other games. But it's OK, loving it so far, and I actually continue to play it. I had emulators, VR version...isn't the same as the machine itself! But thank you for the review, I was watching out for this when I got my order. Good information.

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  2 года назад +1

      It sounds like maybe you got the later edition (since you mention the inclusion of Dig Dug). As far as I have heard, only this first QVC-released Partycade had these performance problems. Happy to hear you didn't have to deal with them.

    On one hand, a lot of folks would still be happy to have this unit and might not even notice some of those flaws (minus the start button of course). But on the other hand, at $200, it should be closer to perfect. I haven't gotten any Arcade 1ups yet, but I really like this wall mounted idea, it's more budget and space conscience. Even knowing it's imperfections, I'll probably get one at the first sign of a sale price. Unless, you know, I find someone with a used one they don't want *hint *hint? Lol

    The Partycade cabinet form factor is what a lot of us were waiting for before diving into buying multiple cabs to populate our game rooms.
    I bought the 40th anniversary Defender, ms pacman, and Super pacman partycades.
    At the $200 or less price point, can't beat these. As long as the price doesn't exceed what you'd pay for the cabinet, art, controls, game computer, power supply, lighted marquee, etc, then the labor of assembling and finishing, these fit the bill.
    Icing on the cake is the ability to mod and upgrade with aftermarket controls, monitor inputs, multigame computer or pi, etc

    It now has 12 games, and I haven't noticed any of the issues shown in this video.
    The intro is different and includes a Pacman animation.

    The emulation issue on Galaga is absolutely valid. Plexi bowing and a wire disconnect is not evidence that A1up qc is any worse than any other consumer electronics company. Its like everyone paints a1up as the worst company. I assume there is no reason for any other company in the history of ever to have warranties amirite? I ordered one from QVC a few days ago and got the shipping notice this afternoon. I’m sure it will have the same issue but will definitely be putting it through it paces when it gets here. There should be no reason for it to be playing slow as it doesn’t take much to run those games. As far as I know the 3/4 version doesn’t seem to have that issue. If you haven’t already I would reach out to Arcade1Up as I know I will be doing that if mine has those issues when it comes in.
    I have the Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat II, Final Fight and TMNT machines and will be picking up Marvel Superheroes and probably Star Wars at some point. And if the King of Fighters machine actually does come out I’ll definitely be getting it as well. I really haven’t had too many issues with any of my machines and overall have been pretty happy with them. They definitely have improved as they have gone along as the third gen ones, like TMNT, are much better than the first gen ones. I am curious where the Partycade falls in there as they were announced back in January but only started showing up around the same time as the gen three machines.

    I got mine in today and no issues with the buttons. I did have to loosen the screws on the deck protector to make it flush as mine was bowed too. Mine also has the audio stutter on Galaga and uhhhh it's a bummer. I really bought this mainly for PacMan as I can't fit another 3/4 in my game room so being able to hang it over the door was a huuuuge plus. For me I think it's 4 stars. I wish someone would do this stuff but do it PROPERLY. I want a full-size cabinet, not something that's just ALMOST the real size, and the emulation has to be perfect (which really isn't much to ask given the age of the games/hardware, and the quality of MAME etc. these days), and the controls have to be solid parts (which doesn't cost that much; I suppose replacing them is an OK option too if they keep it standard). I know the price might be a bit higher, but I'm sure people would be willing to pay for better. As it is, the quality is too low for me to pay for any of the offerings so far, despite really wanting something like this. I might get them as a novelty if they were REALLY cheap, but for what they cost (and they already cost more over here, too), they just aren't good enough. Same with all the mini arcade things. It's all garbage so far.

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  4 года назад +1

      I tend to agree with you, Leo. For the same money (or less) you're better off spending $900 to get a multicade emulation cabinet. The downside to that for a lot of consumers is, it's not plug & play -- it takes some configuration, internet savvy, and knowledge of where to obtain those grey-market ROMs. Until classic ROMs are as easy to acquire for a reasonable price as MP3s, niche manufacturers like A1U will be the most attractive to a huge market segment.

    • @4shadow849
      @4shadow849 4 года назад

      There are people (or companies) that do make full size arcade machines with authentic everything (roms,buttons, etc.) But the price point on them are like 3,000.00 and above. They also rebuild and restore orginal machines and sell them but same thing, you are looking over 3,000.00. Arcade 1 ups are only between 200.00 to 400.00 area after all, what do you expect for that price point compared to 3,000.00 and above. So for 400.00 bucks, it's really not bad at all when you consider the cost of "real"...or "original"....or that even 6" toy action figures cost 20 bucks nowadays...this is not 1940...200.00 or 400.00 is not alot of money...nor is 3,000.00...for 2019.... 6,7 or 8,000.00 is more considered "alot" of money today.
      People are expecting too much out of Arcade 1up and not realizing or really understanding what a "real" arcade machine costs that is full size height,weight & width.

    • @LeoDavidson
      @LeoDavidson 4 года назад

      @@4shadow849 I don't think it's hard to imagine a middle ground between 400 dollars and 3,000 dollars where something full-size could be mass-produced. (And without weird emulation glitches that shouldn't happen.) There's a huge price gap there, and also a scarcity and legacy hardware/replacements issue with the original machines. (Also, outside of Arcade1Up, who are doing better than most, a lot of the other companies are just producing garbage that uses NES ROMs instead of arcade ROMs, despite both being trivial to emulate on cheap, modern hardware, and releasing systems that have the wrong aspect ratios, which is just unforgivable.)

    • @4shadow849
      @4shadow849 4 года назад

      @@LeoDavidson
      This is true, I agree with what you are saying. I think unfortunately even if that middle ground is met, there wouldn't be enough people willing to pay that middle ground price. You have alot of people now complaining that Arcade 1up machines are too expensive despite the better upgrades and enhancements that Arcade 1up has been putting Into their newest machines (Sonya buttons and joysticks, higher grade led monitors, dual speakers, etc..) like in their Star Wars, Marvel and TMNT cabinets. Us die hard arcade junkies would pay more but I'm not sure if there is enough market interest to support a company and make it profitable enough for anyone that attempted to produce this mid-range version. So I say, give Arcade 1 up alittle more time and they will continue to make improvements and reach a better level of quality, like they have with their 3 newest cabinets. I haven't heard that many complaints at all about the Star Wars, Marvel or ninja Turtles cabinet, just praise so far.

    I'm so glad they worked out these problems with future iterations of these. I got the Ms. Pac-Man partycade a couple weeks ago and it's superb.

    I got mine this afternoon and big surprise I have the same issue with Galaga. I’m going to put a ticket in with Arcade1Up to see if they are aware of the issue and if they have any plans to send out new boards. I’m afraid most of these machines probably were bought by the regular HSN/QVC shoppers as Christmas gifts and they aren’t going to know or care about the issue. On the plus side my cab was perfect right out of the box with no issues with the buttons, plexi, or artwork.

    It shouldn’t be that hard!!! The lack of quality makes it seem as if they just don’t care and a company that doesn’t care doesn’t get my hard earned money. The little things line the plexiglass matter. The connection issue...I don’t have the knowledge to dig in the guts of a machine. The stuttering music? Thanks for the review. They will have to do better before I drop ones on them.

      The fact they even include plexi covera at no charge flies in the face the sentiment the company doesn't care. Quite the opposite as the original units a year ago had paint wear they didnt anticipate. Until March of this year they offered free replacement art and plexi at a considerable cost to the company
