Exactly. A commenter told me “you can’t save them all” when I said if the system fails one child, it doesn’t need to exist. We have money in this country for everything else, we even send money to other countries to support them, but we can’t match that effort with our own? Broken children grow up to be broken adults. We've got to start paying more attention, to the children. And any that appear like seeking help, for God sake give it to them. Children are looking at certain adults to save them, and that's who we're here for, the children.

@@hugecake4178 unfortunately, that’s far from true. It doesn’t matter what color the reporter of abuse or the victim may be. CPS could care less, claiming to be understaffed. My solution is to disband the entire system, if that is the case, because it’s useless if even one child is harmed. But it’s never been one child, but thousands, who are severely beaten and/or killed despite CPS’s involvement.

The waterpark was full of people and it was bright daylight. Noone said anything, some even joked about it.. I yelled over just "hey!!!!! Stop!" and he slammed the doors and drove off... It’s called Child Protection Services in my state. Here’s my story. I was 6 months old when I went to the emergency room with two broken arms and legs. My skull was cracked and my head was twice the size with one eyeball hanging out of its socket. They induced me into a comma in hope of my healing from the traumatic brain and cranial injuries. Upon release from the hospital I was made a ward of the court. I was put into foster care until about 3 years old. It was only when my foster mom, her name was Mimi, filed papers with the Court to adopt me that my paternal and fraternal grandparents also filed papers to adopt me. Then for unknown reasons, my fraternal grandmother promised the judge that my mother would never ever lay a hand on me again. My last words to that grandma before she passed away was ‘you should have let me go. You should have let Mimi adopt me because the abuse continued once the Court put me back in the custody of my biological mother. The judge did not treat my mother’s case as though there was the potential she could still kill me. The judge treated the case as if my mother had an addiction….addiction to beating your child? My mother was offered the same kind of deferral program like the Courts do for drug offenders. Complete an 18 month program and you get your kid back. She attended parenting classes, anger management classes, 2 visits a week by a state and county social worker. I remember Ruth was the name of one of the social workers. My mother would coach me before Ruth would come over what I could or could not say. She did the same thing every time she had to take me to the ER for inflicting injuries on me. Eventually I began telling on her. As I got older I began asking questions after sharing with family members incidents that I recall happened. they should have known i was going to start asking questions. Good bad or indifferent they were honest but, still in denial. I have a brother one year older than me who was present during the abuse. He would sneak in my bedroom and ask me if I was okay. At 58 years old he claims to not remember or know anything about abuse. You don’t beat one kid and not the other if it’s an addiction. I also have a baby brother. And, again…. Both brothers thought that my mother and I did not have a relationship because I did drugs in high school. Abuse never entered their minds and till this day she is still lying about it. She had no explanation for my little brother when he showed her the newspaper article “6 month old baby in coma from beating by mother”. The moral of this story is when a child tells you that they don’t want to go or don’t want to stay with someone you can bet they are being abused in some manor. Does anyone have any idea how a child feels to be put back in the hands of our abusers? It’s like a child being afraid of heights and you make him ride a rollercoaster.

She loved that little boy as she does all her kids. It's just heartbreaking knowing she tried so hard, and reported it so many times.. For that boy to not be safely removed from the home its baffling... You could tell he loved school, and her. She gave him light in the darkness and put a smile on his face. He felt safe there. and it probably felt more like home to him, then his actual home. At least when he was on this earth, he got to feel genuine kindness, and warmth. He deserved so much better then this. Too many young lives are being taken by the ones who are supposed to protect them these days. We need to fix the system. These children deserve to live, and be loved, they need to feel happy and safe. This should not be something as a society we just brush under the rug and forget about. I am not sure who was the absent parent if it was the father and what the family members did but the family members couldn't get the aunt to bring the child over did that mean that they couldn't also go over her house? I am so sorry for the loss, and I know what that teacher feels ! I have seen a few children myself while teaching that clearly, were being abuse or had severe issues that needed to be addressed !
Whoever was in charge of DHS/Department of Family/Social Services needs to be fired, sued, and arrested !
This situation could have been prevented, if they just acted on the initial tip/report from the teacher. This makes me absolutely sick, and infuriated at the same time ! What is wrong with people ?!?
The Board of Education needs to be held accountable too ! What were they doing to stop the abusive situation from continuing ? They should have immediately contacted the police, and had them perform a spot check. Also, they could have employed a plain clothes PI to monitor the family, in order to see how the situation REALLY is !
Just because someone seems happy at times, (especially children) does NOT mean that all is well where they live. If a student indicates that they do not want to go home, they are scared of their parent, or show signs of distress, the school administration must follow up ! Many have already suffered in silence ...for decades !

I’m currently going through Cps-Dcfs issues. My Brother was killed in January by APD.
His priorities were to get custody of his kids to change his life for them.
Mother is addicted to meth, alcohol, homeless, being with random men, etc
Left my brothers kids 16 yo boy 6 yo girl with her 21-27 year old kids. 27 yo male has absolutely no communication skills just glares at you, he can talk, just chooses not to. Or make that effort.
21 yo female is almost the same. Very quite stays in the room eats sweets, doesn’t want to cook for herself. They reached out to me to take my brothers kids. I drove 9-10 hours to pick them up. As I was there the young lady asked if they could come. I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t have much room at my home. As I talked to her why they were in a hotel. She said mom has always left them, abandoned the minors on her since she was 15. She dropped out of school because Mom just wanted to be on the streets. They are in fear of her. They don’t want to go back with her. Police-detectives-Cps-dcfs all say they cannot help. I’ve sent them ugly vulgar messages From mom harassing them and older son. Graphic pictures of there living. She just tossed them with her old druggie boyfriend. They got kicked out went to living in hotels, no food at times. Going to food banks. Broken glasses, matted hair, dirty clothes. It was all horrible how they were living. No jobs, no social skills. They need so much help. My niece has the vocabulary of a 3 yo. I’m appalled they don’t want to help. Dcfs told mom they were with me. We asked they don’t tell her. Apparently mother has rights to know where they are. Just hearing them seems like they want to give kids back to the mother. She is not stable at all to care for them. Verbally abusive towards the older kids. Disowned them accused them. Very paranoid. Talks crazy. I guess someone has to die before they “REALLY PROTECT KIDS”
Even if the older ones are not my brothers kids.
I took them all in. I believe I am doing the best interest for these kids. Getting them assistance getting them help for therapy. I’m not allowed to enroll them in school or take them to see a doctor!! I can’t trust this broken system. I’ve even reached out to tribal governments. Who do I go to now? I just pray about it ask God to help me.

When a child says they don't want to go home and that they rather stay at school- that should be considered an immediate investigation for abuse/neglect. I feel the boy could have survived if the people who thought the first red flag wasn't considered worth checking out. Disgusting. It infuriates me. I was a victim of child abuse and my parents would abandon me a lot, sometimes for days. I'm lucky that children's aid society came to my aid almost immediately, and I now have a wonderful foster family who I call mom and dad. Been with them for 16 years now. Im 22, finishing college and hopefully going to help others through my work as a future producer and scriptwriter, the way film and tv got me through my rough childhood.

I'm a teacher. I had a student miss weeks of school during the fall semester. The following spring the same thing. I had the counselor and attendance clerk call the home. They would show up a day or two then be gone again and the cycle repeated. Until one day another student asked about the student and said "I saw them sitting on the front porch with their mama a week ago and I haven't seen them since. It's like they died." A chill went down my spine. After school that day, I reported it and went to my principal to let her know I did. When I made the phone call, cps said that attendance or lack there of didn't meet the qualifications for a check or case. I was flabbergasted. I have a child on my roll that the school and I have been trying to make contact with for months. The mom was so annoyed that she changed her number then withdrew it from the school-student data base. This was in March. In May in a meeting with regards to grades. I was informed that the student would be held back due to attendance. A week until school being released for summer, the student was withdrawn and I never saw them again and neither did the kids that lived in the apartment complex with them. I still think about the kid and hope that they are OK.

From my personal experience, America does not love children. Even when funding is available for child protection, it is in insufficient amounts necessary to help the kids who are in desperate need of that help. There is no political or popular will to protect kids. Institutions, politicians and the majority of citizens are indifferent to children's fate, both promoting and demanding the "right" to abuse children.
As far as the U.S. is concerned, children are "property" of their parents and, like pieces of furniture, the "owners" can use and abuse as they like with that property. Dead children have more rights to personhood than living children.

She’s heartbroken because she did what she was supposed to do, the agencies who were supposed to pick up the responsibility from there couldn’t be bothered, and it cost her a child that she loved, and him his life. The apathy of agencies who are given the task of monitoring caregivers (at ANY level……children, the disabled, senior citizens) is disgusting. I thought people who went to college to do social work were supposed to be compassionate and committed to making a difference?!?!

They are compassionate and empathetic. But the way the system is built lacks for funds and resources for communities and workers. Don’t blame the workers. Blame the systems.

The agencies followed up. Nothing that was reported constituted abuse. There was nothing they could have done. Everyone did their jobs. It's disgusting that people are so horrible to anyone and especially to babies.

@@lilnarm_smoothblaze f you. All of us didn't beat that child. All of us didn't neglect that child. I hate it when people want to deflect the blame to other people who weren't in any position to know about the abuse much less do anything about it. If I'm family and I know that abuse is going on THEN blame me!
