Just picked up a ‘23 85SX. It started and idled super smooth but after getting warmed up and riding was overall really rich. Saw this video and swapped the needle with the clip placed in the second slot and swapped the pilot from the stock 48 to a 45 and it really smoothed it out just like you suggested. Thanks for posting this tech tip. It would of taken me a whole day of playing around with it to get it just right instead of riding.

I just bought a 2008 ktm 85xc, it has a brand new engine / rebuild, and new carb. It’s crazy powerful, and much more fun to me than say a crf250 or yzf 250

@hao ling lee my ktm runs really good though. Getting big wheels for the YZ makes it much better

Mate. Thanks plenty for these vids and all the tips and details with specs
We have just upgraded our sons 2021 SX 50 which he outgrew both in his body size and ability to a 2019 SX 65 with 50 hours on it
We have done a top end rebuild and only a decal sticker package to spruce it up and have a personal touch for him
I might grab a new seat also with frame protectors
I really need to start a log of specs and tips which I do for all our bikes and these vids are a fantastic starting point
When we have the bike delivered next week ready for race season , do you have a tooling kit and consumables parts list I could copy into my bike log book ?
Any help is very much appreciated mate . We are down here in Sydney Australia and both my son Tyler and I have had a blast watching your content all round.
Thanks again mate . The info you have shared is invaluable and certainly saves me a heap of time and research in compiling our bike log book and maintanence journal.
    Cheers mate
    John

Amazing video. Just picked up a 2024 KTM 85. Curious as to what Sag setting did your kids run with. As stock calls for a 120. Which is odd.. but I’d it’s right it’s right. What Sag setting do you end up running?🙏

Hi , my gas gas 85 mc (same pwk Keihin carburetor as the KTM) is running very rich, masssive amounts of spooge out the silencer, I use it mainly for enduro at over 2000 meter elevation and temperature at around 25 c , im using a main jet 138 ,40 idle jet and dropped the needle to the very first clip to lean it out, and still the spooge is too much, im running motorex cross power at 65:1, been thinking to use a 32 idle jet, but don't know if it would lean the bike out way too much, any thoughts?

I just bought my son a 2024 ktm 85sx and I'm a carb noob. Could you send me your jetting data? It's not for racing just recreational

I wonder how it became leaner with a needle that's smaller? I thought it would be richer? I have trouble with spooge on my '23 85SX and I tested a couple of leaner settings but still getting too much spooge. Maybe I could give a shot to the other needle...

I would try the NRJC needle. Clip position 2. It helped a ton. A couple of other dads suggested it on a Vital thread

So before you buy a 85.ktm. they use the worst rear master cylinder that has ever been put on a bike. Formula brakes. 70s and 80s Japanese brakes use better parts than this. They use mountain bike parts on a 85 105 for rear brakes. All they do is leak air. So since they can't be honest about the garbage they put on their bike, we will. Put the 125 brakes on if in competition. Again the worst ever rear master cylinder that has ever been put on a bike. All it does is leak air. And the conversion is around 1k

I hated working on those formula brakes as well and I rebuilt them. Circlip nightmare getting them installed correctly.
