- Come along for the ride as Kyle Franklin explains his entertaining Super Cub comedy act and Ben Wabknoski goes flying. Franklin makes it look easy - but trust us, it's anything but.
Jokes on us he actually does the act drunk and is just that good.

For you non-pilots: This is an extraordinarily skillful routine. As the narration says, the airplane is taken right to the edge numerous times, not only with the wing tip strikes on the ground, but the near-stalls every ten seconds. A great job that I have seen at shows several times.
Ok, I think he said that in the video already. Thanks, pilot. All of us pleb non-pilots are now informed.

Correction: It Takes a Lot of Work to Fly This Badly Without Crashing
Bad flying, I think, entails a lack of control. This pilot is making the plane do exactly what he wants it to do.
you lucky flything.
Eric Taylor And sir, That's an art!
It's the "illusion" of bad flying, takes a lot of skill!
One must be an absolute master of flying this and many other aircraft to make it perform as such without breaking his own neck.
Over the years, I've seen far too many wannabees break their own necks, may God rest their souls.
One need not terrify other pilots to terrify the crowds. Just focus on making a SAFE show, not a terrifying show.
Having flown years ago, I can say without fear of contradiction, that this is a very powerful plane and the pilot is extremely competent.

I like to tell my beginning students, "The airplane has more hours than you, let it help you along". "You are there to help it along, a little". I then demonstrate the ability of the plane to do stall recovery and to recover, itself. Lastly, I show again the stable turn and how it helps in the traffic pattern. Also stability and self-recovery. And I use this all the time in instrument flying. Trim is king!
Michael Laviolette I used to road race motorcycles, and that was a similar situation. You had to be able to let your bike do what it is going to do, while at the same time being able to make it do what you want it to do. Once you can master that you'll do just fine.
What is trim
@@HuseyinCan96 you take a circular saw and trim off the trailing wing edges to increase the airspeed by 12 kilometer per knot hour minutes
Neutral , it’s what the pilot gets when the ladies see how well he flies. 😉
@@HuseyinCan96 It's a correction tool that auto adjusts the rate of climb once adjusted by the pilot, so as to keep you leveled: you adjust it up & down until the plane flies straight basically.

True story: I remember seeing this at a local airshow when I was like 5 years old, except with a "farmer" instead of a "drunk", and when the guy flew behind a hill like 3:30 I was convinced I'd actually just watched a crazy old farmer die a horrible death
😂good times
Probably your "farmer" was this guy's Dad.
Yeah, I remember reading about "Crazy Cub" acts in Flying back in the '70s
I saw that same "farmer" routine at an airshow in Amarillo Texas. I totally fell for it, didn't realize it was a gag until it was over. That and Bob Hoover at the same airshow is the best flying I have ever seen in person.

This is the most intense aerobatics performance I've ever seen. Wow. It really looked like he was going to crash. It's shocking how little modification was done to the plane. That's really amazing.
"It takes a lot of skill to fly this badly."
Meanwhile, on Microsoft Flight Simulator:
*queue hot air balloon doing mach 3 over the airport *
That entire routine is awesome, but I think my favorite part (even though possibly the most mundane) is at 2:15 when he disappears briefly behind the hill then reappears in a vertical climb, followed by the thumbs up out the door. Something about that shot I just found really amusing.

Back in the 1970’s I saw a Piper J-3 clip wing Cub fly a similar routine at an air show. I think its number was N432X. Among other things, he would approach two trees and roll into knife edge flight at the last second. I’m amazed at what these planes can do with a skilled pilot. I have flown in my day, but not like that. Bravo!

Its funny because you have to be extremely skilled to look this bad.
Isn't that weird?
Most things are like that usually, especially in movies, it's super easy to act like a smart guy, just say some smart things. What's really difficult is acting like an idiot, it's really hard to pull off a genuine idiot rather than just someone with no memory that says silly and cringy things.

Now that is one hell of a pilot!
The amount of joy that brings to people myself included.Brilliant. What a show. James UK.
I've seen many "Flying Farmer" acts based upon this steal the airplane situation, and I never get tired of them. The first I witnessed was in Waterville Maine with the same layout. I was perhaps 12 years old making the event 1951 or so. So highly skilled these pilots that I have ever since been an aviation freak.

Hello Mr. Kyle,
Congratulations for such nice act! Realy fun, very hard to perform, but you've done it beautifully!

This man does the exact same thing in different areas, its all a show, but a damn good one. Takes a lot of skill to fly like that for sure... and no way can a person do that really being wasted. Props to the pilot!
Uh, yea...did you watch the video? We all know he isn't drunk and that it's an act. In fact, he says the word "act" dozens of times.
Holy crap that is some skillful flying man, props to that guy. When he dived and bounced off the ground was a big butt pucker for me. You miscalculate that a little and you’ll literally break the fuselage.

Insane weird skill to have. And let's not even talk about the balls it takes to do this. Or even _try_ it !
Fantastic flying!
That’s called positive control.
Splendid.
Absolutely amazing! I'd like to see this show at the Reno Air Races next year.
My dad and uncle did this at air shows back in the late sixties and early seventies. J-3 Cubs to PA-18 mods. I fly a 1941 J-3 cub today that they used for some of these acts back in the day! Good memories!!!
I adores Charlie Kulp's flying farmer. This is equally amazing. Charlie took me up once. Good memory.
I met Kyle's father, Gentleman Jim Franklin at an airshow in Amarillo Texas in the early 80's. Before cell phones were common, our Ham Radio Club helped out with communications at airshows with our 2 meter handheld transceivers. Jim was flying his Waco bi-plane, and my job was to stand next to him on the flight line, and let him know when it was time for him to perform. One of our guys was shadowing the controller talking to the tower, and he let me know when it was time for Jim to taxi to the end of the runway and pick up takeoff clearance from the light gun in the tower.. This was because he didn't have a radio or any electronics in his Waco. I had about 30 minutes to talk to him and ask all the questions he had probably heard thousands of times before. It was like talking to my long lost best friend. He took the time to patiently explain things to me like I was his best friend. He will always be one of the nicest people I have met in my life, and I will cherish his memory until I see him again someday...Ken WB5QLI
I would love to see his show!!!
Amazing skills!
A REAL LIFE GTA!!
I saw the Charlie Kulp's version of the Farmer' show in the mid-late 90s.
This quotation tells all:
_A guy at an airshow came up to Charlie and said that he owned a Cub and didn't know it would fly like that. Charlie simply replied; "It wont, unless I am in the back seat."_
It was amazing flying. You can keep your Blue Angels & Red Arrows. Seeing that yellow Piper crabbing at a 45° yaw, pitched 20-30° up 10 feet over the deck, + all the other antics, made a show that was so much more of a bucket list event than anything at Disney.
That is, by far, the most impressive trick flying I have seen. Non-stop stomach lurch 😲
Bet he'd be a he'll of a alaskan bush pilot.

I wish I could fly like that, but alas I'm just a center the ball kinda guy and get it back on the ground in one piece and I'm good to go.
Great flying!
I am lost for words. The skill involved is outstanding.
Well you managed to conjure up 10 of them so you’re not completely lost.
I remember an act like this back about 1973, starring "Colonel Blunderbird." At the time, Continental Airlines' ad campaign was "We really move our tails for you," which was the line tossed out by the announcer when the pilot did the rudder-kick.
"daddy can we go fly?"
"HECK YEA!" lol Amazing how this guy can do this
I was there when they performed this it was honestly hilarious
Wow, incredible flying. There were a bunch of maneuvers I would not have thought recoverable.

The flying farmer, Bob Weymouth, was very close friends with my family. He was doing this routine one the early 70s or 60s. This guy does a great job of capturing the spirit of that act I grew up with. The flying farmer gave me my first ride in his piper cub. He had a hole in the roof, he would stick his head out the roof and fly the aircraft with his foot on the stick. Another trick he did was to stop the engine and climb out and stand on the wheel and start the engine as he glided by the audience. This was later stopped by the FAA.
This made me smile to see the fun he has and the skill it takes.Glad this popped in my feed. 🤠👍
Is it crazy that I feel safer if he was my pilot than airline pilots?
I watched the Flying Farmer when I was a kid with my father. It was incredible. Brings back some great memories.

I got to meet Kyle this year. He's only 70 miles from where I live. He had Dracula torn apart getting ready for the season. Yea he's that good.
The Flying Farmer impressed me some 25 years ago. He looped his J-3 at barely above ground level. I still can't believe it because it isn't possible.
That is some great flying. Very technical despite the outward appearance.

I saw his dad back in the 70's at my very first airshow. I still clearly remember it like it was yesterday even if it was over 40 years ago and I was in early grade school.
