It sounds like they're creating a tritone Interval when unsynced and a tritone chord when they're synced as a tritone Interval and chords make music sound creepy due to their very high dissonance level

Lol mental hospital. Reminds me of the scene in Terminator 2 where Sarah runs from the hospital guards before the T-800 arrives. Almost sounds like that alarm in the movie which creeped me out as a kid and still does today.
Speaking of that: I wonder if that sound was ever used on actual fire alarm systems, or if anyone knows the exact alarm system that was used in that building for the film.

Make sure you have an actual chime and not just a speaker. Also, most fire alarms run off of 24 volts.

That's the panel's piezo it does that when the panel goes into trouble, alarm, supervisory, and when resetting
