Great review, very accurate. This played better than many high price guitars I tried, actually had a little Les Paul neck feel to it with nice binding. The sound was so-so and I went with a Yamaha, but the feel of this one kept me coming back to try it.
Sorry to pop your bubble Whip, but with "FIFTY" years under my belt of playing acoustic, I just received mine. Closed the cases on the Adamas, the ovation and the Martin and locked myself in a room with this guitar. All I can say is "HOLY" shit!!! This will be my "go to" guitar from now on. Got it for $190.00 and it's the best money I've ever spent!!! It's WAY more than just "thin" and "crisp" as you say!!!! Has a great deep bass tone when played by a professional!!! Potential buyers! "DON'T" let this review scare you away from a five-star rated guitar!!! Buy this guitar and see for yourself!!!
I didn't "dislike " the guitar....I just didn't think it had bottom end compared to my other acoustics. It's a nice little guitar, but for the same money you can get a used Seagull with bottom end like a Martin. This one was too thin for my taste.
I have to choose between this AJ220 - which I really liked playing and here in Brazil costs 20% less than my other options - and a Takamine GN51CE or a LÂG T270 slim auditorium (never had the chance to play or even see it). Please give me some advice!
Awesome review...Sam Ash rocks..I purchased a used Yamaha FS800 FOR 150...They sent me a brand new one..I am really digging the guitar..Bought for a beat around,I dont take My Martin out of the house.Almost bought a used Seagull s6 but I wanted a smaller body and the mid range punch is bonus..Different than my Dred..
I got on and I liked the slim neck ,the now call it the Epiphone j45 studio, I plan to have my tech change out nut and saddle, and put elixer 12,53 She'll be sweet for the price. Thx
Hi! Nice review! Im from Argentina and I am an amateur player, so I'm looking an acoustic guitar to add to my classic guitar. This was very useful. Thanks!!!
Hello! I really would like your help on a matter.I am about to start playing guitar. Starting at 48 a late start people may say but its something I will have time for and just never did happen. I have a low budget for a guitar right now and I have been considering Epihone EJ-200 Artist, Epiphone AJ-220S and Yamaha FG800. Wich would be be better in my case. I thank you in advance man.Take care Paulo from Portugal.
Any one of those guitars would be just fine. The one thing you want to do is take your guitar to a good guitar shop and have it set up. Any good guitar repair person can do this for you. A good set up insures that the guitar will play the absolute best that it can play. With a good set up you can learn guitar in confidence, knowing your instrument is performing at "its" best. Many times a beginner will get started with a inexpensive used instrument and they can easily get discouraged when the guitar is hard to play, has high string action, goes out of tune, buzzes ,etc. Its easy to think its very hard to play guitar when your guitar is fighting you every step of the way. Imagine trying to learn to drive in a car with 2 flat tires. The car is pulling you all over the road and it won't respond they way you want it to......without knowing the difference , its easy to think this is your fault, when in fact, no-one could drive that car well. Guitar is the same thing. Good news is when a guitar gets a good set up, you will be good to go. A good set up includes having the nut slots lowered if needed, lubricated if needed, ( to where they do not bind the string) the truss rod properly set, new strings installed and stretched, and the string height adjusted to the lowest , easiest to play height while still high enough not to buzz on the frets. This is what you need. All those guitars would be just as good as the next, so pick the one you like the best and have fun learning.
Well thats a very good advise. Thank you so much man ! Thank you for your time and care ! It feels so good when people you dont know take time to respond and give such good information. Thumbs up!!! ;-)
I bought mine here in Berlin, and had a young fellow from Dresden who was visiting the JustMusic store in Berlin, and I saw this one and since I was a beginner, I asked him since he was playing others just for fun in the showroom, if he would give me his opinion on a few starter guitars for me. I was 55 and hadn't picked up a guitar since I was 17, so I had to start all over. Of the several guitars in the price range I could at that time afford, (around 200 EUR) this fell right in there. The boy and his buddy, picked up two different colors of the same guitar and they took turns showing me how they played and sounded. I am a concert pianist since I started at age 7, and have a different ear for the type of music I like, but something with both Piano and Guitars, I like clean sounds, not so much dirty or muddled ones. When they narrowed the pick down to the AJ220 S Acoustic, they showed me something that BLEW ME AWAY... It has a pickup and a tuner on it. The pickup allows me to hook it up to an acoustic amplifier and can listen to it on headphones (this was before the Mustang Micro came out) So I bought myself an Acoustasonic 15 Amp for Acoustic Guitars on their recommendation in the Amplifier room. I was blown away at how good this sounds attached to all sorts of Amplifiers, and even more so later with the Mustang Micro, and the other Amplifiers I got with lots of built-in sounds. The Marshall Code made this guitar incredible while plugged in. You didn't review that part of the Guitar's features at all in this. Not all plain acoustics come with a built-in pickup and tuner. At the time, I wanted to play something I could plug in and have headphones on as i live in a multi-family home, and in Germany, neighbors can be real bastards if you make noise, even in the daytime. It was the reason I decided against learning Cello, Violin, Viola, and Bagpipes. No joking. As i said the option to plug into headphones didn't come until the Fender Mustang Micro was released a year or two later. But I could practice and get sounds that were amazing and beyond what the guitar itself was capable of standalone. I love this guitar, and I play Flamenco and Spanish Guitar styles on it, and use a looper to record off it. Great Guitar for a really wonderful price, feels great in the hand and the neck is comfortable and not glossy. Has been one of my best purchases, and it's now part of my musical instrumental archives, and I won't give it up. Greetings from Berlin, Germany.
I just got my. brand new. I am seting it cus it came out of set. and i instaled a fishman presys preamp brand new. and is just like you sed. its deacend.. i hop it open a bit more. thank whips.
Its a bit thinner ( back to front) than a lot of round shoulder Dreds. I think that gives it its thinner sound. But , truthfully, its a fine sounding guitar....just different.
whip's cheap guitars I bought AJ220 S my daughter and I got in pitch with a Martin, and the Epiphone220S boomed Martin I wouldn't have told my worst enemy to buy I found a very unusual looking saddle weird shape, little raised lowered areas later never seen one watup?
I bought an Epiphone AJ45S 2 days ago. Way more than a 220. Is a Epi AJ45S a Gibby J45? No way. But for $1,800.00 LESS it will erve my requirements. In our bluegrass group I play accoustic bass. But when they let me I play the banjo players Martin D35. IMO the holy grail of acoustic guitars, His Martin was made in 1968 and he bought it in 1969. Get this. For $550.00.
I use to own an AJ 220 se an my little dog nocked it off its stand an it tipped forward an fell flat on the front an the head of the neck broke off but until that happend it was THE BEST guitar FOR ITS PRICE nothing could quite compare
I think the price of guitars has gone up these past few years. New, after tax, this guitar costs more than $400 canadian currently. For that price you can find a used simon and patrick which is far superior.
@@Danie-nu8jg I got lucky, I paid £100 including the hard case from Cash Converters. It would have been worth paying that for the guitar alone imo. I've since had a pick up installed too.
Its got some bottom end that wants to come out but you've got to dig into it sounds like my high school girlfriend but she wasn't out of tune oooohhhh!
I cant believe I found this channel. You stand up for cheap stuff and I love cheap stuff as well, you rock
Thanks FG!

It does feel good. I think its a solid guitar but not very rich sounding for just playing in the bedroom
I think your big thick jumper sleeve on the front of the guitar was muting the sound of the thing.
What guitars are percussive, clear and ringy. Up to the 500 dollar mark? Ty

Nice deal !
I like the slim neck , good for fingerstyle, also change out the nut and saddle real bone and so elixer strings ,nice sounding Guitar

Awesome Honest Review, Thanks
Hi! I really like your attitude! Can I ask: what do you think about Epiphone Hummingbird Artist? If you tried it of course
They are good for the money.
You play great! The instrument has a good tone.
thanks
takamine gd11mns vs ephiphone aj220s... which one Better ...thanks...
I'm not familiar with that Takamine guitar, I'll keep my eyes open.
thanks.....
this or dove pro???
Continental mistake I have aj 220s labeled aj200s
How it sounds vs new solid top fender cd-60s?
I only played one of those once and it probably sounded better than the Epi to be honest.
The newer Epiphone acoustic feel really good and play well. You can make few mods. It will be great or better. Strings sucks we know that.
I like this guitar, for the money its really good.

Would you recommend this or the dr-100 one?

Indo guitars rock.

I'll just say this. Took the guitar to a tech. He offered to buy it cause it sounded better than his high end Taylor.
It does sound better and louder after a few years. 😅
I use to own an AJ 220 se an my little dog nocked it off its stand an it tipped forward an fell flat on the front an the head of the neck broke off but until that happend it was THE BEST guitar FOR ITS PRICE nothing could quite compare
same happened to mine. glued and clamped and now its playing fine again. just not so pretty.
I think the price of guitars has gone up these past few years. New, after tax, this guitar costs more than $400 canadian currently. For that price you can find a used simon and patrick which is far superior.
Some better strings would bring out the tone more
Good video - liked and subscribed. I just picked one of these up on the used market. It has a nice action and the tones aren't bad for the price 👍☺🎸
could u maby tell me how much u pay?
@@Danie-nu8jg I got lucky, I paid £100 including the hard case from Cash Converters. It would have been worth paying that for the guitar alone imo. I've since had a pick up installed too.
👍
Great guitar. I regret I sell this.
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I wish bought the Jasmine 35 over it for 79 bucks new!

I have a problem I can't play as good as you LOL!
LOL
not bad for the money
Not at all. Its a great guitar , it a little thin , but its also a thinner guitar ( front to back) .
Wait a minute, I recognize that sweater...

Its got some bottom end that wants to come out but you've got to dig into it sounds like my high school girlfriend but she wasn't out of tune oooohhhh!

God, what you call a cheap guitar, in my country takes me a month whole good salary to get...
No thanks...I'll save my nickles and dimes to by an American made Gibson or a Martin.
LOL, your watching the wrong channel....... I have LOTS Of cheap American Guitars.....but they are all made by Harmony And Kay
