My grandpa’s brother John McCuish wrote this song. My grandpa (Roderick McCuish) told me the tune and words came to John as he was passing Harris as a sailor in a Navy ship.
The man who delivers my prescriptions is called Roddie McCuish, from Gordon's Chemist in Oban. He has retired from being a councillor, and delivers on Tuesdays and Thursdays, to help all us pensioners out, and derives great satisfaction from being of help. Anyway, to get on with the story.....I told him about Lizzie Gillanders very interesting story of John, who wrote the song and tune as he passed Harris on a RN ship. Lizzies Grandfather, Roddy McCuish taught her the song and words, and what a great song it actually is!
