Then Chara interferes with their original timeline making Gaster believe baby Papyrus was dead. But they just simply took him away. During a certain point in the comic this gets addressed where Paps, Sans and Grillby question if River is their "mother/other parent" since he helped Gaster in the making of them. River doesn't see himself as their "other parent" despite being in love with Gaster. I think it's up to the reader to decide if he is or not. Personally I don't think he is. Oh and Grillby and Sans are married in this universe.
Pap died in this and they brought him back by making love and making a new soul for Papyrus (thats why pap is a kid here) Grillby and Sans made the soul... uhmm nvm
