    From what I'm seeing about using hemp foe building products it looks like hemp will become much more widely used and cost will come down. Considering how fast the plant grows it looks like a more sustainable product and eco friendly. I was wondering about the weight and how hempcrete compares to concrete. Also the durability by comparison. Good video.

    One big reason for the Hemp-Shiv outer layer is better insulation. So, what's the R value per inch for the two options?

    Love to see more experiments like this.
    What about the compressive strength? Does that matter?

      @thiscobhouse  Год назад +1

      These would both be used as non load-bearing infill, so I doubt the compressive strength would matter much in this case.

    Can you compare hemp vs woodcrete or papercrete? Very interesting information.

    Thanks for the video mate… do you know the mud slip version is good for sound proofing a room?

    I did the exact same test (clay as binder + hemp shiv and hemp + lime) and had pretty much the same results. I liked the adobe-crete results better but they will release more water as it takes way longer to dry. Would love to see a video of you plastering these if you are up for it.

    What pozzolan would you recommend with the lime when using the shiv?

    Can hemp crete be used as a insulation layer in between 2 earth rammed walls to get that R 40.?
    What r value is the maximum?

    Nameste 🙏 Question...Is it nesssesary to sift my moist clay rich,rock free soil before mixing with other ingredients? This Cobb is for walls in the house. Also how much time between 2' courses to dry before next course. Walls are 18" wide.Also Nepal is 98 present humidity and around 100 degree's! I'll be using forms and your duel wall system with stawclay . Thanks for your info 💙🙏🌍😁

    Would you use any of these two in a modular type house where you have OSB board on the outside and inside, using this in between?

    • @thiscobhouse
      @thiscobhouse  Год назад +1

      Yes, I think either one could possibly work for a modular build.

    Would you consider making a natural wall building project using these techniques? 🌞🌱❤️

      I want to construct a building using one of these hemp materials soon, but in the meantime, have you watched me build the straw-clay house? ruclips.net/video/sv6kV_fy27s/видео.html
      It's a very similar process.

    If you were insulating a floor system with joists and plywood tacked under, would you need to bind the hemp at all?

    • @thiscobhouse
      @thiscobhouse  Год назад

      No, but I would personally use a hemp batt insulation for a floor insulation. Hempitecture makes these.

    Is the shev flammable? I would think the one that has lime world not be flammable... not sure. Thank you for this video

    • @thiscobhouse

      The shiv, much like straw-clay, will be highly flame resistant when covered with the mud slip, and even much more when coated in the lime binder.

    Hi I am a student and am really interested in cob and hemp construction. Is there an alternative to a concrete foundation that you recommend? Additionally, being in Arizona, where the climate is very hot, is there a way to insulate cob in the middle of the wall rather than on the exterior? thanks :)

    • @thiscobhouse
      @thiscobhouse  Год назад

      You can potentially do a stone foundation instead of concrete.
      Here's my video on the ways to insulate a cob wall: ruclips.net/video/HP07HppympE/видео.html
      However, cob has high thermal mass and generally does very well by itself in arid climates.
