    In the first few weeks, you should wake a baby if they don’t wake up in 4hours. Usually babies will wake up by 4hrs but some situations make babies more sleepy...like jaundice. I’ve admitted many babies with dehydration because “never wake a sleeping baby”. I absolutely agree with introducing bottles early if you plan to do both. And I encourage both... because of the reasons you’ve stated. I’ve had too many moms getting “stuck” with a baby that won’t feed from a bottle. I’ve had moms in tears because they haven’t been able to leave their baby in months. I’ve never seen nipple confusion.

    Breastfeeding was SO stressful for me...I managed to do it for 9.5 months, but MAN was it the hardest part of parenting for me. I had supply issues, and he was teeny tiny and needed a lot to get up to speed. Thankfully he took a bottle right away, but the pressure and mom guilt that this is something I "can do if I want to, I just need to put in the work" made me feel SO GUILTY and it's absurd. I had medical reasons that my milk struggled, and I still fell under this pressure. At 9.5 months my sweet boy was waking up 5-6 times a night, and I was going several days on literally no sleep until I'd ultimately just crash, and it was so dangerous and unhealthy. I wish I would have stopped listening to the mom-guilting army and listened to my body more...I'm so damn proud of what I was able to do, but man...You are amazing for doing this video!

    My son was born 6 weeks early due to emergency c section so I couldn't breastfeed right away. My milk supply came in 4 days pp. But because he was preemie, so I had to pump for the first 2 weeks pp. After that I could breastfeed. But because my son was bottle fed breast milk for his first 2 weeks. I had to go to a lactation consultant to help him latch. But now he is 9 months old and latches great! And he also drinks bottles of breast milk.

I am back at work and I have to pump so I did everything possible last month I could to up my supply and nothing changed it... Well low and behold we are pregnant again irish twins on the way. But man did I beat myself up very hard last month thinking I could just not supply for him. I have to supplement but he is getting half and half right now and will as long as my body will keep it up.

    Currently pregnant with my second and WISH I would've found this video when I had my first. I was so uneducated and ended up switching to formula before baby #1 turned a month old. The formula really messed up her stomach and I wish I would've kept breastfeeding (or pumping since my baby had two oral ties.) I'm much more informed just by watching this video and believe I will make it happen this time!

    I feel like there are a lot of professionals that say babies will have nipple confusion, but really what happens is if baby isn’t pace fed (slow flow nipple, holding the bottle as parallel to the ground as possible with baby sitting up, should take about 15-20 minutes for them to finish the bottle) they’ll develop a bottle preference because the milk comes out of the bottle faster/easier than the breast. From what I’ve read this can be especially common with babies who have ties because they have to work so much harder to get milk out of the breast.

End of day I fixed my child's latch and it's been painless since. Quick feeds...my child likes to take her time lol, she's 3 months doing 20 min feeds. 5 min would be great!
    And Silverettes were freaking amazing, I loved them. Worth the money. I needed Rx cream with my first I was having all kinds of issues, number two I used no creams, just the Silverettes, I was healed in like a week I think?

    • @Lex.Fitzgerald
      @Lex.Fitzgerald  4 года назад +2

      Defrosting frozen milk is actually pretty simple and quick! Place the bag of milk in a small bowl (think soup or cereal bowl) and let cool (not hot) water from the tap pour over it continuously. After about 3-5 minutes, you’ll see it’s defrosted.

  • @lisagiannoumis3816
    @lisagiannoumis3816 Год назад

    Yeah I did bottles right away with both babies. Breastfeeding didnt work out long term with my first, number two def prefers BF over bottle but she will do it fine while I'm at work. I'm thankful I ignored lactation consultant, now the reasoning is you don't want to get engorged and of course you don't want to overdo pumping but a pump in lieu of a feeding is fine.

    I hate the theory every baby goes through nipple confusion they don’t. Only a certain percentage of baby’s get nipple confusion! Every baby is different do not always get scared from a doctor telling u no do not do this till this time. I personally was scolded in the hospital for asking for a pacifier cause my son wouldn’t feed he would latch and go to sleep. He got a pacifier first day of birth. We never had nipple confusion. if ur baby does have nipple confusion their is so many things u can do to help ur baby adjust. It’s not the end. Most doctors make it out to be. You and your baby know what to do when it comes down to it it’s all about learning as u go. Don’t get discouraged from doctors telling u this is the time frame.

    I agree 100% with you about introducing a bottle much much sooner than "experts" suggest. When I waited I had a hell of a time getting baby to take a bottle. I introduced one much earlier with my second and third and it was such a better experience. If you're worried about baby getting confused then use pace feeding. Pace feeding mimics breastfeeding more so baby doesn't get a ton of milk to quick. I don't believe nipple confusion is necessarily an issue. It's more so that baby gets milk much easier from a bottle when you don't pace feed that they get frustrated then when it takes longer to get milk at the breast. This is when they may tend to reject the breast. Pace feeding is a big help with that. I never woke my babies up at night either. My second child slept all night from birth and she was fine.

    My babes seemed to cluster feed (have a growth spurt) every three weeks or so. And for first-timers, or those who find it uncomfortable, please make sure your baby is facing you when they latch on. If they are facing up and have to turn their head to feed, they won't get a proper latch and it can cause pain or cracked nipples for mom, and yes that is as bad as it sounds. Just put baby's tummy facing your tummy and your positioning should be fine. La Leche League is a wonderful resource for questions and in some areas, they even have support groups for moms. Nice video, Lex!

    Tongue/lip ties can also cause other issues down the road for baby as well like with crawling and talking. Even if you don't have issues with breastfeeding it is still a good thing to get checked out. Also I agree doctors don't diagnose very well, may have to go to a chiropractor or a pediatric dentist.

    When do you think is a good time to start pumping?

  • @sandiemom8888
    @sandiemom8888 4 года назад

    The hand pump is similar to what we had back in the day. It was called a bicycle horn pump. It looks just like a bicycle horn. To pump you squeeze it like a bicycle horn. Or attach it as you said. It's funny how things make a comeback. The hoocha and manual pump does look like a high grade to what I had but it's nice to have a way to catch the liquid gold. I was told to just put a cloth diaper to catch the milk it so you don't get soaked. I never did that as it was nutrition not for a burp cloth. Most important doesn't matter how you feed your baby, just feed your baby. I'm a momma to 8 and let each baby lead me. Great video.

    I agree with early bottle introduction!! And paced bottle feeding can help avoid “nipple preference”

    I love that you bring up lip and tongue ties!!!! Our daughter had them and they went undiagnosed. However with our son he also had a lip tie but was diagnosed almost immediately! That’s one reason I love our pediatrician because he caught it super early and he actually diagnoses them so much he now does them in his office.

    Great video! I'm pregnant with #2 and still nursing baby #1(he'll be 2 this month). I had a HUGE oversupply but LO would not drink milk that had been previously frozen. Praying that #2 will drink previously frozen milk.

    This is by far the best informative video I’ve ever found on RUclips ! She is amazing !!!!! I felt the part when she said your baby is gonna be fussy for a while when breastfeeding and your thinking the baby is fussy and not getting enough but that actually means your signaling your body to produce more milk to meet the babies needs . I use to think I wants supplying enough for my baby , but In actuality I
    Was ! This was very reassuring that I am in fact doing my job and trusting my body to don what my baby needs ❤️✨✨✨✨🌟. Thanks 😊 I will definitely subscribe to her channel!

    I can't get over how clever you are, and how much information you've stored! I've breastfed five kids (not for very long) and mostly pumped, but I couldn't remember a single thing unless I constantly refreshed myself. Amazing video! Thank you so much. 💓

    I feel exactly the same about introducing a bottle! Our first two needed formula from birth due to medical circumstances. They happily took a bottle and breastfed from birth. I decided to wait until the recommended 6 week mark with our healthy third child. NOPE! He would NOT take a bottle. Next baby I’ll definitely be introducing in the first few days.
    Great video. Thanks!

    Hi Lex,
    How long would be “normal” for a newborn to feed? My son would feed for a half hour each breast and then want to eat again in a half hour. He did that for the first 6 weeks and by then I was exhausted and flipped to formula. I’m expecting my second baby in April and I’m really wanting to have a more successful breastfeeding journey with this one. Thanks!

    FYI if your milk smells soapy (high lipase) and/or baby won't take it, boil the milk before freezing. It will get rid of the sour taste and smell. I made the mistake of building a huge stash and baby won't touch it because of the hight lipase. Best of luck mommies.

    Thank you for making this video!!! I tried breastfeeding my first baby, but I just couldn't figure it out. I'm pregnant now and will try again! You broke it down very nicely so it is not overwhelming. Thank you!

    Great video, very informative!
    I have a 3 month old and an oversupply. I’ve getting clogs left and right in my right breast. Massaging it while pumping with a back massager releases my clogs pretty quickly. I put a bit of Honest all purpose balm on first so the massager glides more easily.
    Also, the Legendairy Milk Sunflower Lecithin has been a game changer, I only recently got it, but since taking it I haven’t been getting clogs.
    I also have the Milkies Freeze, I love that thing!

    I feel like I’m gonna need to watch this 2-3 times to fully absorb all the info hahaha I’m due it my first on 11/22 and breastfeeding does scare me. Especially with my mom in the background reminding me how hard it was for her. So so appreciative of this video 🤗🙌🤗🙌

    Loving your video! Thank you 👏🏼🥰 and definitely can stand by you with the ‘’nipple/bottle confusion’’ - nonsense per say - We were forced to start bottle on day 2 as we were struggling with BF and my baby never had issue with either bottle or boobie. It was just massive relief for me when I was too tired and my husband could bond with our babe from very beginning ☺️☺️

    How long does it take to drain the breast with the manual pump? Approximately- i know this will be different for everyone but I'm trying to figure out if I should invest in an electric pump?
