It's ironic because the guy who thinks the world doesn't need movie star is the guy that the world actually needs. So many "movie stars" are pretentious and out of touch. This guy right here deserves all the praise in the world for thinking the way he thinks. What other celebrity would be as humble and open to say this? Honestly Andrew is underrated and deserves pure love. So many people don't deserve to receive all the attention, but this guy, this guy really deserves a bigger audience. He's deep, open, humble, nice, talented, an admirer of the arts, philosophical. And then there's people like the kardashions, Idk how to spell it, who receive all the praise and attention from the world. I'm not hating on anyone, I'm just saying the world doesn't deserve people like Andrew, but it needs people like him. And I'm so glad he's well and happy. Andrew is amazing.

I understand the concept Garfield is trying to articulate with his statement the "world does not need movie stars". To reiterate his thoughts: we, the audience, remove movie stars from the equation that is a movie + actor = movie star. Instead we make them something the actor does not intentionally aim: a projection of beauty and perfection that we can idealise. By doing this we are not supporting the actor as a movie star but a figment of our own imagination. Therefore, in this scenario, we do not need movie stars since our imagination will manifest the subject we desire.
.... or at least I believe this is the thought process Garfield was taking on. Nevertheless, very insightful and authentic of him.
We also don't treat them as human beings either. I think that is also where Garfield was going with this as well. If a celebrity does something wrong, it is also over the press and they are criticized. The press follows them around everywhere they go and as the public, we keep buying the magazines. We idolize these people, when in reality, they make mistakes and struggle just like the rest of us. Even worse, most actors don't want fame. They just want a job and becoming famous leads to a downward spiral because they can't live a normal life. Good for Andrew for admitting the truth.
You know someone is a good actor when they have an entirely different personality in real life.

He's so articulate, I love it. His argument concerning the movie star comment is on point! There's so much pressure for individuals in this industry to be "perfect" and in effect society want to live up to these ideals. For instance, there would be many more young confident girls if there wasn't a dominant ideal beauty that is seen in the media. Some girls lack confidence because they don't fit the beauty standards and as a result, it lowers their self-esteem.
The way Andrew talks is really unique
In other words, don't glorify actors. They act to portray a message; a lesson. That should be the thing that is glorified.

I just love the interviews with Andrew and Stephan. Stephen knows just how to work him, he’s really a genius at times. I think Andrew can be a hard interviewee to crack. Stephen makes him blossom. In a similar way when he interviews Thom Yorke. So much mutual respect and understanding between them.

As a child, I saw him in Amazing Spider-Man but never thought much of him. I thought he was like any other movie star and it didn’t help the fact that I listened to people when they said he was the worst Spider-Man. I think I just thought all the other mcu fans know more than me so I should listen to them, but I should not have. I thank whoever’s idea it was to bring him and Tobey back for No Way Home because it made me realize why ppl hated his version of Spidey? Now as an adult who can formulate my own opinion, I rewatched his Spider-Man movies and I was still so confused why no one liked him, cause now he is my favorite. And this was all before I found out that so many other people are now starting to realize how amazing he is too. I’ve seen people try to gatekeep him by saying “You can’t like Andrew now cause I loved him before you” and to that I say BS. I’m glad so many others like myself have now noticed him, watched his other movies (like Tik Tik Boom which is PHENOMENAL) and watch his interviews. He’s getting more recognition for his work and he truly deserves it cause he is both EXTREMELY talented and seems like a genuine humble person. Humility is something that is desperately needed nowadays.
