- Lather Games Day 23!! Today's Theme: "What IS that enchanting aroma?" Where we use the soap that we've gotten lots of complements on.
Arkadia fits that bill for me, and I happen to have some on hand as a sample. And then as a splash, I had some Fine Platinum (Creed Aventus) to smell good for hours after.
The big SOC Boar from Semogue also fits the theme, since it's one famous brush, with tons of ardent fans.
I finally join in the Games, because I've been crazy busy and traveling, etc. It's fun to play, even if you don't score too many points and don't get a prize.
Today's Challenge: Lather Audit...

Razor: Fatip - Testina Gentile (Gentile Closed Comb)
Blade: Gillette - 7 o'clock (Green) Permasharp Stainless (1)
Lather: Stirling - Arkadia
Brush: Semogue - Owner's Club Boar (Shedder) (19 uses)
Post: Fine Accoutrements - Platinum
Razor and Blade Notes - Fatip - Testina Gentile (Gentile Closed Comb) ::: Gillette - 7 o'clock (Grn) PS (1 uses):
I had several days of growth to shave off and this was a great setup to do it with. There was no tugging or discomfort at all.
This so called "mild" razor made short work off the long stubble and the standard 3 passes was easily enough to get to a great DFS shave. The third pass truly was one that just cleaned up a few spots.
Razor and Blade Performance/Comfort Rating: 4 out of 5 (Very Good)
Soap Notes - Stirling - Arkadia:
Them: "This scent has top notes of Orange and Grapefruit, middle notes of Black Pepper and Pelargonium (Geranium), and base notes of Patchouli, Cedar, Vetiver, and Vanilla. It's elegant, grassy, and amazingly provocative. ~~ Inspired by Terre d'Hermes"
Scent: I'm no expert on TdH as a cologne, so I don't know how accurate this is. However, I know I like it. It's well-blended, so the notes are a bit hard to pick out sometimes.
None of the notes mentioned above really stand out to me, they're just all working well together.
Scent Strength: 5/10, nicely present during shaving.
Lather: This was one thrown together while traveling, basically. So I just scooped up some soap from a tiny container with my thumbnail and then as I was lather-building, I dribbled in water as needed to get it as slick as I know Stirling can get.
Was pretty much a perfect lather, but I had so much growth on my face, that the oils made me have to add extra on the first pass. A face wash before the shave would have prevented the need for this.
Hydration: Perfect (for me)
= 5 passes of lather
Brush Notes - Semogue - Owner's Club Boar (Shedder) (19 uses):
Felt so plush, compared to the B35 Zenith I've been breaking lately. Super easy splay and comfort.
*Shave Quality*
During the Shave Feel:
Cheeks: Felt blade but comfortable
Neck: Felt blade but comfortable
After the Shave Closeness:
Cheeks: Near BBS - About as close as I'll ever get
Neck: Few hairs are showing some tip length (with most being cut flush)
I'm gradually adding answers to frequent questions here: www.sugardaddys...
Wetshaving is the age-old shaving method where you create a lather from a soap or cream, usually with a brush. And these days, we also usually mean using a safety razor (aka double edge or DE) or single edge or straight razor to remove the hair. We often enjoy less irritated skin, healthier skin, more enjoyable shaves, and often closer shaves than those who use a multi-bladed cartridge and canned shaving foam.
Nice shave sgrdddy! Glad to see you stopping by the Lather Games thread. Yes, I'm participating in Lather Games and did last year as well. Not a judge, but I do try to read most of the comments. It's a strange and wonderful thing, and very entertaining.
Thank you! Nice shave! 👍🏼
Another great shave. Really like that razor. Also I am wanting to try those 7 o’clock blades. That brush looks really awesome too .
Always great to see you. Hang in there. Impressive to see the Fatip Gentile take off all that stubble so easily. I've been ignoring mine for a while, but this shave is a great reminder to put mine to use. By the way, Fine's L'Orange Noir is a great dupe of Terre d'Hermes. I'd spritzed myself with some LN when I saw you were using Arkadia, just to get into the mood. I laughed when you took out a bottle of Fine for the AS and it turned out to be Platinum. But both are out of this world. Take care.
Ha! Great to hear from you!
Yes, I wold have used LN if I had any on hand there. I was lucky to have the Platinum. It was either that or a skin booster/balm thing from Lidl.
Great shave and Lather as usual .I have just received a Fatip L'ibrido , open one side and closed the other , looking forward to seeing how i get on with that ...all the best .
That's gotta be a great razor as well. I rarely see a dual comb razor that I would like, but that might be one I have to pick up!
@sgrdddy_shaves as always an educational masterclass in wet shaving products and techniques. Your lather game is on another level. I pray all is well with you in the name of Jesus Christ.
Thank you, Jason!
That is a great shave. It is rare to find and also learn how to use a mild but an efficient shaver, for stubble which indeed most would believe deserves something more. This was a swell experience.
That blade has beeb the most unreliable for me. Each tuck ends up giving more duds than good ones.
Thank you!
This blade may have done well in this razor today, but for me also it is hit or miss. It has definitely done poorly in some other razors.
