Enjoyed your reaction! 😂 I'm 21 and these guys are by far my favorite band. Their pieces have a crazy level of musicianship. And the great thing is the more you listen the better it becomes and you always find something new. I have a suggestion, though hearing your emphasis on the length was funny. If you guys are ever up for it, Close To the Edge is a literal masterpiece. Some consider it the pinnacle of rock, others consider it the pinnacle of music in general. Its a beast of a song at just over 18 minutes. Its a journey, but absolutely worth it. And as a spoiler there's a real church organ somewhere in there too. Keep it up!
OMG, you're so cool. Been listening to Yes compulsively since I was 17. And this was my first Yes song, but the entire album is just as good, if not better. That said: Yes is PROG. As such, it is often best for listening, rather than as background music. Roundabout was actually a big hit for Yes, but in an edited version, which removed the whole percussion bridge. It was still exceptional, but the more I heard of Yes, the more I fell in love. LOOOOVE.
I don't know, at 17:00 the guy is talking about different instruments coming in from his left ear and right ear (stereo) he sounds like he misses mono recordings. I think Yes might be a little too advanced for his expertise. ha
Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth. Enjoy your Yes journey gentlemen better late than never. Been dancing to Roundabout for 52yrs. 🙏🍁
If you think this song fried your brains you haven't heard anything yet! Please continue doing some more YES and you'll definitely have me as a new subscriber!
YES is the greatest progressive rock band in my opinion. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to them. Loads of greats including "Roundabout", "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium", "Close to the Edge", "Turn of the Century", "Starship Trooper", "Perpetual Change", "That, That Is", "The Revealing Science of God", "In the Presence of" lots more.
So who the heck are you guys that you have not heard of YES!!! 😂 You are listening to the # 1 Progressive Rock Band in History!❤ The guitarist(Steve Howe), the keyboardist(Rick Wakeman), and Bass Player have been voted BEST IN THE WORLD! Yes is Not simple music…it’s complicated, Full and will take you in a ride…If you can handle it…it’s too much for some people….mature tastes for sure!! Jon Anderson is a Legend! His voice is certainly recognizable! Bill Bruford on drums has a Huge reputation in Prog Rock -he was also in King Crimson. They have a huge Library of music that will blow you away! ❤
BELEIVE IT or not this 1971 song is TAME compared to what they did after. They continued doing the BRAVE & UNEXPECTED, moving further away from the compromised mainstream and deeper into even more adventurous groundbreaking ambitious highly sophisticated virtuoso levels while retaining every bit of humanity, emotion and beauty found in this gem which became their first big rare Hit Single (after being broadcast as an edited Radio-friendly 3 mins Single.) But YES were an ALBUM BAND often creating songs that lasted the entire side of an LP ... mainly throughout the 70's though they did change along with many new members during the 80's only to eventually reunite the classic lineup before ending up touring as we speak with no original although there is 1 classic member.. NEVERMIND THAT though. WITH DEEP CONVICTION and PASSION many, like me, PRAISE 70's YES as the GREATEST combination of musicians imaginable who produced the most EXTROADINARY MUSIC CONCIEVED in this MODERN age. Bold exploration by actual musicians PEAKED in the 70s and YES were at the FOREFRONT of these explorers of new pathways who used sound as their vehicle! As you can tell YES lyrics were poetically METAPHORICAL and used symbolism rather than writing in the usual obvious and literal manner. Its basically about them driving home through the mountains with "roundabouts" while looking down above a lake into a misty valley with 24 & 4 hours to go! THAT's IT! Many changing Styles, Moods, Time Signatures, Chords, Tempos Textures, Channels were all part of their signature style! If you enjoyed this then you're not going to believe what else they did next! BUT YOU MUST ADAPT TO INTENSE WELL ARRANGED AND CONCEIVED interwoven tricky MUSICIANSHIP & harmonized vocals. Though YES knew how to overwhelm you, they also knew when to let you breathe & relax
I absolutely dare you guys to deal with "Awaken", "Ritual" , "Close to the Edge" and "Gates of Delirium". You don't seem to have the heads for real prog. Hope I'm wrong...good job though.... I subscribed just to hear you deal with those songs...take care.
Wow - you've cracked that "24 before my love" right away. Impressive. That's exactly what that means. Singer, Jon Anderson was telling his wife, basically, that they are coming home from their tour.
This is the song that progressive rock musician try to achieve though never did. The pinnacle! Bros Squire is one of the best bass guitar players ever and the song is basset around it😃
LMAO...processing the "proginess" of "Yes." Hilarious. Roundabout is a musical sojourn and a flight of fancy for sure. The breakdown after the tempo change is one of the best I've ever heard....right up there with "Freewill" by Rush and "Aja" by Steely Dan....Have to say that even though Roundabout only reached 14 on the charts, this it is considered a masterpiece among most prog enthusiasts....get proggy bois!
YES formed in 1968. Released their 23rd studio album in May 2023. They have had many lineup changes over the years. Roundabout is a fairly tame song for them. They have several masterpieces that would blow both of you out of your chairs!!! Try watching some of their LIVE concert videos. Musicianship at its finest!!!🎵🎼🎶🔈🔉🔊😎
@@TigerMtnKing Jerry I have a picture of Alan signing a drum head and used sticks that I got. Chris loved getting cigars. Have a pic of him in a motel room smoking hash. Jon did a meet and great in a bar before a show in Detroit. That was very cool. Used to get Christmas cards from Rick, last one came from Sweden. I have a signed key from an old keyboard from him. I consider YES my second family!🎵🎼🎶😎
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is YES they inspired loads of future bands the likes of RUSH - TOOL - GENESIS and a few more there is a vast eargasm of sounds to be heard from YES enjoy the ride {:-) PAV UK
I LOVE how YES trips out new listeners! Some are blown away, a few are completely baffled, 😂 I ❤love them❤❤They're the Greatest "PROG" & ROCKBAND EVER! This is a small slice 🍕 of what YES did for modern 🎶 music
Yes was the greatest virtuosos of any band ever. No other band has the quality in each instrument and vocals combined. I guess if you Bois did not like the instrumentation, YES is not for you. 8 minutes was an average length song for YES. Their epics were closer to 20 minutes or more of musical trips that no other band could achieve. Drugs were not needed to take you into the war of Gates of Delirium, or taking you Close to the Edge, or the high flight of Awaken. Nice reaction.
They actually said they loved it. Only problem: Boi on my right had a slight problem with the way the percussion break was produced. I mean, he's right, some instruments do "pan" around in this song, and extremely clever production was and will always be a hallmark of Yes. I think he'd be fine with it if he's not wearing headphones, and probably after he's heard it a few times, it won't affect him like it did. But I, too, was concerned.
I’m sorry that my dad broke you. A little Charles vs Charles mind melting. It’s probably because I heard music like this when I was younger that I grew up to love progressive rock/metal. I think you might find it more enjoyable without headphones Chuck, it’s a blast in the car. The keyboard and the bass steal the show on this one for me. My dad would’ve loved seeing Chuck get all discombobulated while hearing this 🤣❤
this is a short song for them- but "yes" this is a huge band- in the rock and roll hof and back in high school they were one of my top 3 or 4 rock groups i was way into - super talented- the lead singer is 3 foot 7- maybe a little taller- this is prog rock- rush and them have alot of similarities and they both influenced each other- i would give you better songs by then but if 8 min is long you don't want to know more
If that broke you just wait until you hear Siberian Khatru or Sound Chaser. I would have suggested Close to the Edge or The Gates of Delirium but your aversion to long songs might prevent you from enjoying those masterpieces.

That bass player was Chris Squire playing a Rickenbacker. A very distinctive sound and a great player.

This is one of their minor masterpieces.
You have just listened to the greatest band that has graced this planet.
Just for perspective, this was released in 1971. I played this song over and over back in the day and still love hearing it to this day.

And now you see why I grew up to love bands like Dream Theater 🤣
