Thank you for actually using the heavy barrel against the final boss. Seems like a waste to have a super-powered weapon and then never use it against the final boss.
yeah, definitely using the heavy barrel is way to go for the last boss. He's pretty tough otherwise, and it's really satisfying taking him out in literally 2 seconds. thank you for checking out my gameplay!
Awesome run. I couldn't remember what this game's name was to save my life. I just remember playing it on arcade before and after church. It was the only reason why I wanted to go, because the store that had this game was a block away from the church my mother took us to. Great memories. Thanks for this video.
Nice run, I remember pumping a lot of quarters into this game in the mid eighties and only saw the "you will die" guy one time when someone else was playing. Finally got to see the end of the game and a perfect run - bucket list - check!!!
Thanks for the comment! I also have a run done on an arcade cabinet on the Galloping Ghost Arcade RUclips channel, here's the link: ruclips.net/video/N1h3nriAVuM/видео.html I don't think it was a no-death playthrough, but still went all the way through with no continues used.
thank you very much! If you put some time into memorizing what it coming next, I'm sure you could beat it. Stick with red grenades for bosses and the ball on the chain weapon for when you are most likely to be surrounded.
@@Pete_Hahn Definitely we Unkillable my Comrade! Soon we will meet up in GGA, for now keep fighting the good fight owning them arcade games Gamemaster!
Nicely done Pete! I’ve never actually played this game before, I didn’t come across it growing up as a kid, I saw loads of Ikari Warriors though, strange. Seems pretty decent though. I like that they give you a generous supply of grenades, they seem pretty damage strong, the range they have is pretty crazy. Data East were on fire back then, it’s sad that they’ve vanished these days :/ Heh and those random samples were pretty funny :)
Thank you Mark! Yeah, they give you a ton of grenades, and those red ones really cover a huge area. I agree, too bad about Data East, they made a good amount of my favorites (like Robocop and this game).
It's amazing you can beat this without dying... even if you are using turbo. I just bought it for the Switch. I can't believe how shitty the NES port of this game was. The arcade version of Heavy Barrel is as good as Contra, if not better, but short.
Thank you, this is one of my favorite arcade games I've gotten into over the last few years. I've not tried any of the ports (yet) but I might soon. I'm actually not using turbo buttons, though. I'm running the actual arcade board with a rotated monitor: imgur.com/pVzf2oi The whole setup is hooked up to a HAS supergun: imgur.com/pk6lzqj Thanks for watching and commenting!
I remember beating this game for the first time on the NES. I was appalled and baffled at how shitty the ending was. My palms were sweaty and inside my head I was "wtf.....that's it?..." Crazy how insanely not worth it it was, to beat this game lol
@@Pete_Hahn I vastly enjoy the NES versions of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, Heavy Barrel, and Double Dragon more than their arcade machine counterparts. The music is better too IMO and the controls were better. I kind of hate every single console games' arcade counterpart. Even Knights of the Round for the SNES, something is just weird about how they play and the audio is usually garbled to my ears. NES and SNES are beep boops, but they are clear beep boops, as opposed to muffled jumbledness of the arcade versions. I don't know, just my opinion, but there's no way I can be in the minority on this. Heavy Barrel though...I really love the music to the 2nd stage. Great song.
very nice! did you do the last boss the "safe" way with the Heavy Barrel or no? Always cool to hear of arcade conquests back in the day, thanks for sharing!
Good question! The Heavy Barrel gun can be acquired 3 times in a normal playthrough if you want get it as many times as possible. Since I was going for a no death run, I purposefully got the heavy barrel for the 2 areas where I was most likely to die: 1) The double red helicopter boss at 11:05, and 2) the last boss. If I used the heavy barrel as soon as I could, I wouldn't have encountered enough boxes to have it re-assembled in time for those 2 boss battles.
Heavy Barrel is a Spectacular arcade game with fantastic graphics and STUNNING gameplay
This was my favorite shoot ‘em’ ups as a kid.

I'm really glad my video could help you remember the name of this classic game! 👍

This was super high quality for the day.
Sick, sick run! The best I've eve done is made it to the Level 4 boss on 1 life. This game is one of my childhood favorites. Excellent work!
thank you very much!

One of the more memorable games from the 80’s
definitely!
Midnight resistance
🦾
That was Godlike!! Would love to try this with you in a two player co-op run one day Pete.
That would be amazing... Your run is the only other no death on youtube for this game, I think. We need to combine forces to become Unkillable!

Great play man!!
So many uploads and talk about this game lately. I have the cart right in front of me in my shelf.. It keeps taunting me.
Thank you very much! DO IT...The NES port looks really solid, and I'm sure you'd crush it very quickly. Looking forward to seeing your run! :)

I haven't tried the NES version, but I've actually been meaning to. I won't hold me breath for a good ending, though. :)

The Midnight resistance version
yeah, this arcade version uses the same rotary-style twisting joystics as Midnight Resistance. I really like that game also, lots of fun.
I used to beat this with no deaths too at my local 7-eleven hehe. I remmber u would get xtra lives as u played too.

@@Pete_Hahn id save up the parts and pop the heavy barrel at last boss
@@macsdf1 yep, he's a pain otherwise
I think the Steam version is even harder than this. You crowd controlled so much, but it always looks like Serious Sam to me.
Thanks, the ball+chain weapon crowd controls so well, it's so useful.
You only get flame throwers and 3 way weapon only....
Why you waste so many boxes??
You could get the super weapon like 3 or 4 times. :/

Oh, I understand (against the final boss). Thanks for the info.
