I've had one of these for a few months now. I won't hesitate to remove bolts with it. However this thing has torque that scares me more than my 1/2" air impact. I'm still on the fence about it. This replaced my older gen 4 impact and I wish I still had one for lower torque jobs. But this tool has worked great so far.

This is AWESOME, I have a VERY EXTENSIVE Ridgid 18v tool set and I have many batteries ranging from 2 ah to 9ah. I have 2 of the 9ah batteries that will last a VERY LONG TIME. I am sooo going to buy one of these impacts.
I got this impact since a few years and i love it... A real beast! just be careful when use on car... can broke easily bolts if you dont use it properly
I forgot to put it on automode, while tightening one of my lugs, and it snapped that sucker off in less than five seconds. This is another one of those Ridgid tools that will surprise people the first time they use it; especially if they are coming over from any other brand.

@@Ashroyer86 if you say so. I have used that high torque to break bolts tightened to 1,200 ft pounds but yeah it probably can't do the 600 of your truck.
I use mine for torque sensitive bolts, Auto 1 gives me about 35-40 if I let off when it starts impacting, I finish them with a torque wrench, saves me from potential for flooding buildings.

I would like to see a durability test. As a Mobil mechanic, we put our impacts through hell. Dirt, oil, brake dust, humidity, dust and drops. My Milwaukees are still thugging it out. Would like to see someone show off their rigid 1/2 under their personal workload.
Home Depot is selling this baby right now for $270 with a charger and battery. The auto mode 2 forward torque is wayy too high for a regular lug nuts in a car. They are usually torqued between 80-100 foot pounds.
It’s definitely a skookum choocher. You’re gonna want to wear leather gloves when holding another wrench because it will torque it and crush your hand. Also it will crap out for hours if you overheat it. I thought I blew the MOSFETS right out of it one time, but it did recover. This can’t hold a candle to My Mac air impact wrench, not even close, but that’s expected. Not too many complaints other than that. I only use it when I know it’s gonna work nowadays. I work on semi trailers, I’d be lost without my Mac. Weird thing is my Mac never crushes my hand while holding a hand wrench, it just breaks the fasteners loose.
I know this a year old but your off your rockers if you compare a air impact to a cordless. Of COARSE your air impact is gonna slam the cordless impact of the face of the earth. The air impact doesn't crush your hand because when it impacts it has a or most usually has a dual hammer design so it has a cushion effect which wont kink your wrist like a used and abused torx bit.
Love the channel, just one recommendation I have would be adding a little more time at the end of your videos. That way it gives us a chance to click on the suggested videos at the end. (I see this video is a year old, so you guys might’ve already addressed that.) Just a thought.
In the auto mode if you hit the trigger again it will give it a little more .... could you test real quick how much torque is applied with two trigger pulls of auto 1 . Since auto one is too low for lug nuts and auto 2 is too high ... maybe two shots of auto one would get them right about where they need to be
High torque impact with dummy modes. I can see the 123 low med high settings but the other crap no one will ever use by someone that knows how to use tools.
I know exactly what you're talking about. Those are my thoughts too; I like to use the trigger for my fine-tuning. However, I have met plenty of other tool users that Love these Auto modes. So, it's hard to argue with numbers. I feel your pain though. Thanks for watching and commenting.
The auto modes are good for certain uses. I found for cement anchors to not over tighten them being one. On 3 it was pulling the anchors out accidentally with ease. On auto 2 it was setting it just right. But normally, I completely agree.
Is the impact wrench just for automotive and the impact DRIVER for all other applications? There’s a big price difference and I want to pick up something like this but not necessarily for auto.
I wonder if the speed setting makes any difference in auto mode when loosening the hardware as well, when it messed up and didn’t stop I think you were still in auto 2 but you only tightened those with auto 1. I wonder if you had used auto 1 to loosen those again if it would have worked properly.
Oh, if they would’ve just kept the Octane and Stealth Force lines. Couldn’t make Milwaukee jealous, though lol. I recently ordered the new mid torque because Home Depot had a great deal on the kit with the friction ring version.

worth mentioning that milwaukee has finally bested this impact, 4 years later, and only if you use their newest battery technology. meanwhile this thing is pumping out massive torque with battery tech so old its been discontinued. but works so well people pay a premium for it used. Milwaukee and ridgid are owned by the same manufacturer, im pretty sure this tool was what ended the octane lineup, it proved octane could outperform their more expensive brands technology.
Lol. Why would you do a video without the proper torque wrench? Same as when guys use different strength batteries or uncomparable models. We watch these so we can have facts to back up our buying choices... just sayin'.

@@Shoptoolreviews well 2 days ago I just did a 02 GMC 5500 with 19.5s that haven't seen new rubber since 09. The 4 AH hyper lithium peformed just as well as the 6 AH octane from left to right side break away.
Its give or take 30-50ft lbs, theres test done with octane vs non octane and with a battery adapter using other batteries(test was done using a ryobi hp plus)

Darren, it's a torque gun using planetary gearing for torque multiplication, and a reaction arm which rests against the adjacent fastener. No reaction point and it would twist your wrist off...
@@thir13enthour it wouldn't break my lug nuts loose with the 2.0 on a light duty pickup. So I bought the kobalt. Don't really care for kobalt but I think it will do what I need.
This will work extremely well for crank bolts. Unless, of course, you're talking about the infamous Honda crank bolt. Without the help of Almighty God, it's almost impossible to get those out. Seriously though, this Ridgid High Torque should be able to handle most other crank bolts. Thanks for watching.
So, something i noticed about your videos. It doesmt look like you are taking into account the reduction in removal, vs fastening torque. When you tighten a bolt to a certain torque, normally it only takes about 90% of the torque to break the bolt free (with no corrosion or damage to hardware) so the fact that youre tightening the bolts to 700, it should really only take 630 to break it free. And when you record the results with the torque wrench, and you measure 500, the gun actually tightened closer to 555.

This impact paired with the lisle weighted 19mm socket and you will get that Honda crank bolt loose no problem. I got that special lisle socket for Honda crank bolts. And it works very well. Good luck

Way too tight. I would use auto 1 to snug then tighten to spec with torque wrench. I think carvan lugs are around 100. Auto 2 setting was tightening well over 200.

I own everything Ridgid has to offer but man is that warranty misleading! "Take it to an authorized repair shop" is the typical bs i get unless it broke right after purchase. The repair shop says the same thing every time. "They dont make parts for that" so i send it back to Ridgid and guess what..... You have to go through the entire warranty process again but without proof of purchase. You'll be on the phone for over an hour to get your 100$ tool repaired! My biggest mistake was choosing the Ridgid line. Im done
That's a great question. Honestly, they're probably almost identical. I'd say to buy whichever that you may already have batteries and chargers for, and/or whichever has the better deal. Thanks for watching.

Shop Tool Reviews That’s socket problem, more than a impact wrench problem. With a regular impact socket, a lot of torque loss occurs through the socket walls. With a 19 mm heavy socket, my dcf899 just snaps them off in about a second.

Could not get it to break light truck lug nuts with a 2.0ah battery.

most automotive lugs are like 100ft pounds. so honestly any of them will get you to do tire rotations. so its more of what do you want to spend

I was jumping around the video. My question: does it have 1500ftlbs of breakaway? Will the 2.0ah batteries give it any power?
The 2.0 batters can run the tool but at a lower capacity. You need the octane batteries to get the most out of these. The 3.0AH batteries are great.

I have a 2007 Didge grand caravan, would auto mode 2 be tight enough to tighten lug nuts?
I wouldn't trust any of the modes for tightening lug nuts. Run them on snug, then use a torque wrench to finish. Thanks for watching.

I work in a refinery and sometimes we have to unbolt 1 7/16 and they are all rusty bought this one. And man it makes milwaukee look bad

Yes but you can still get it. But they are 300.00 regular price now. And when they run out of stock the new version is not as powerful.

I own everything Ridgid has to offer but man is that warranty misleading! "Take it to an authorized repair shop" is the typical bs i get unless it broke right after purchase. The repair shop says the same thing every time. "They dont make parts for that" so i send it back to Ridgid and guess what..... You have to go through the entire warranty process again but without proof of purchase. You'll be on the phone for over an hour to get your 100$ tool repaired! My biggest mistake was choosing the Ridgid line. Im done

That's a great question. Honestly, they're probably almost identical. I'd say to buy whichever that you may already have batteries and chargers for, and/or whichever has the better deal. Thanks for watching.

GM LS and Big Block crank bolts are no problem with this. Will it take off a Honda crank bolt? That remains to be seen, but maybe we can make this happen soon. Thanks for watching.

That’s socket problem, more than a impact wrench problem. With a regular impact socket, a lot of torque loss occurs through the socket walls. With a 19 mm heavy socket, my dcf899 just snaps them off in about a second.

ingersoll is much better and easy to ues.
Ingersoll Rand has some great impact wrenches, and we've reviewed them. I would say that the Ridgid may have just as much power as the IR, and it's much cheaper. Thanks for watching
Rigid doesn’t last and the warranty sucks just sayin
