That's a great question! Typically, more expensive water stone sharpening kits have larger, higher quality, more even sharpening surfaces (and come with more stones for a more detailed sharpening). In truth, no matter the price of the sharpening kit, a knife can only get so sharp- and in the case of the $1 knife, it might get incredibly sharp if done properly, but it will not hold that edge for long at all. In conclusion, if you have a lower quality knife, a more expensive sharpener won't make it a better knife :)
Yeah, got to think about value. A $1 knife was still able to do the same tasks even if it was jacked after. Did the Faulkniven do 400x the job? Nah. However Id go for a Mora anyways for a balance between. The oak test was a bit off because the Mora just doesnt have the same length, and knives arent meant to baton anyways even if thats what people use big knives for now days.
Apples to pirate ships. Sometimes you need a $1 knife and sometimes you need a $400 knife. Sometimes I need an $18,000 knife, not included in your video challenge, you probably won't get one, and it doesn't matter. Sometimes it is the only thing to do the job. The moral... buy what's in your budget and don't be a snob. Unless you are personally making knives and facing off against a fellow blade-smith/blacksmith.
Dutch Bushcraft Knives usually I hate anything that isn't full tag, I also hate the use of plastics but I can't deny the mora knives and in particular the robust is an incredible knife for its price. Probably make a great companion or substitute for a fallkniven or Bark River knife. 🐸🐸

For most all-round work, I'd pick a carbon steel Mora if the price was the same. The reason is that it's better for detail work, and by far easier and quicker to sharpen than the tough steel hunter's knife. What the Fallkniven excels at is heavier work than the Mora can do, but the use case for that is, arguably, smaller.
+Lorenzo Bertoldi you didn't get the message and probably didnt finish watching the video. Because we didnt want to show that the 400 dollar knife was soooo good. We actually showed how good these cheap knives are compared to a 400 dollar one.
Ok, but why compare it with a kitchen knife that is supposed to cut through food? A surgical knife is 10 times sharper than a 400$ knife at cutting skin because that's its purpose. I mean it's pointless to do this kind of comparison. But my comment was a bit salty, sorry about that.
yea but have you noticed the $10 knife that we added for that reason? A $1 knife will always be some sort of kitchen knife and it isn't fair to compare a kitchen knife to a surgical knife. Survival knives originate from kitchen knives. The american settlers carried kitchen knives and had to survive with that. Cheers mate!
No one compared a kitchen knife to a surgical one and that's not the point.. It was an example to show that even the most expensive knife has not the best results on a task that it's not intended for it, expecially a cheap one like in this case. It's just my opinion, but this comparison was pointless. Anyway, let's drop the topic, there's no reason to quarrel about this. I wish you good luck with your channel.
A surgical knife is a very different thing. They have blades with a very acute angle (often 10 degrees or less), and you make a few or even a single cut with them and dispose of them before the edge has a chance to roll or dull. And no, the American settlers didn't carry kitchen knives. That''s an urban myth. They had both woodworkers, farmers and hunters, all with their own tools. And smiths who made them. The American outdoor knives are basically trade knives, where unsharpened blades were carried by traders without a hilt and sheath, to save shipping space. You could fit a knife blade inside a letter. This is why most American knives have plates instead of a rat tang handle, which requires more skill to make and affix for the end user. There were no epoxy glues back then, and few would have a vise. The blade tended to be both fat and thick because they had to stand up to a lifetime of frequent grinding, unlike a kitchen knife where the purpose of the fat and thin blade is for dividing moist cuts, and the knife is only rarely sharpened, only steeled.

Thank you for your honesty. I am a new woodworker and have been looking at sharpening videos. I see guys sharpening to 8000grit. I ask them if the are getting 1600 times sharper edges than stopping at 1000(or whatever the math works out to). They honestly have NO IDEA!!!!!!!!!
I would have laughed my butt off if that Fallkniven tip had snapped, I just can't believe how expensive knives are in your neck of the woods. I tell ya what though, I got my Mora Garberg for $56 and I really really really like it, one good solid woods knife.
