I am not Jewish but rather a Greek Orthodox Psalt ( cantor) as well as a fanatical follower of Enrico Caruso . Caruso was studying the part Eliazor from the Opera La Juive in 1918 and went to the Temple to listen and learn from the world famous Joseph Rosenblatt .
Caruso wanted to see the movement as well as dress of the cantor so that his performance would reflect honesty that opera . It was his last opera to study as well his last opera to sing on December 25th 1920. He would die at the age of 48 nine months later . I am fortunate to have one of Cantor Joseph Rosenblatts 78 recordings . Thank you for keeping his memory alive .

I love watching this, not just for Yossele Rosenblatt's beautiful singing at the end but the way that his son talks about him and the expression on his face as Rosenblatt comes down from that trill at 18:00. That grin and laugh are so "that's MY dad who did that," it's lovely. You can see how proud he is of him.

I too was taught proper singing and voice placement by Henry. Every song I have sung since being taught by Henry was done with him in mind!

My God, thank you for posting this! The great, great Henry Rosenblatt was my teacher, friend, and mentor for almost 10 years. He had a profound effect on my life. He was a masterful teacher, singer, and genius (and very, very funny). Just hearing his magnificent voice again brings back treasured memories.

My wife, Arlene Weissman Kaplan was a student of Henry back in 1960's when. he. lived in the Ansonia. Her professional career. was limited to the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and the NY Met Opera chorus. She also studied with Theodora Andress

He lived and taught there until he passed. I moved to NYC in 92 and started studying with him. A really knowledgeable man with a great ear and way of explaining things.

A plaque at his entrance read: Welcome to the House of Song. So many extraordinary memories - and yes, Matthew, he was very funny. I sent him many students the last decade of his life, and I was, I believe, the last student he trained to teach. I will no doubt watch this many times, thank you...

This teaching, which the Talmudic sage Rabbi Elazar taught in the name of his teacher Rabbi Chanina, is from the end of the first tractate of the Talmud - the monumental collection of teachings that explain every aspect of each of the 613 commandments in the Torah. It states that Torah scholars promote peace in the world, citing 6 verses (5 from Psalms and one from Isaiah) that imply this fact. It is known to every religious Jew, since it is recited at the conclusion of the daily morning prayers. In the synagogue, one can often hear members humming this incomparable composition by Yossele Rosenblatt.

VERY INTERESTING. THE RECORDING OF SHIR HA-MA'ALOT BY YOSSELE ROSENBLATT IS ONE OF
THE GREATEST RECORDINGS EVER MADE IN CANTORIAL MUSIC, USING A TEXT FROM THE PSALMS.
IT IS VERY ADMIRABLE WHAT YOU DID FOR YOUR FATHER'S MUSIC AND ALL YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS.
