Next week perhaps :D
Where’s the livestream?
I think your slowly loosing your touch Mr Croshaw. Or maybe im getting old. Your reviewing is slowly taking a dive for the worse. I keep trying to watch them, and about halfway through i loose your train of thought. Its probably me. But if its not, could you please go and locate your talent again? I keep going back to very old ZP's. Or maybe its just the gaming industry and we're both afflicted with old age.
"You have to master the conventions before you can defy them."
Words for all artists to live by.
"you need to know the rules before you can fuck the rules" is an good advice for anybody at any point in their life
Honestly more of a profound statement than a closing remark.
When i was in film school i made the mistake of taking a screenwriting course right before a course detailing the work of the Coen brothers. Almost every class we would learn the rules of screen writing...and then have the same teacher an hour later praising the Coens for breaking all those rules.
@@metalproofed3089 Captain Beefheart: "What's a rule?"
Not true tho. Know/understand is enough
i wonder what would happen if SWERY and kojima actually worked together on a project, either a blossoming romance or they'd tear each-other to shreds trying to decide which pop culture references to include "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T LIKE DAVID BOWIE"
Dylan Fell but what about suda51 getting involved?
@@hazama0634 kojima swery and suda 51 all working together... Why am I starting to think that this really needs to happen, the world needs that abomination
No one is allowed to don’t like David Bowie.
Three different Avant Garde auters would probably clash too much to complete anything
If SWERY and Kojima worked together, I can 100% guarantee there'd be a guy in the game with a skull-shaped mask. Possible up to five.
Zero Punctuation indie rock band name of the week:
Single Digit Framerate
Runners-up:
Seven Pairs Of Mutant Death Tits
Hitherto Unnoticed Caterpillar
Three Deckchairs In A Whirlpool
The reference to Death Stranding when Hideo Kojima was mentioned is highly appropriate, because the giant rucksack full of Yorkie bars already made me think of Death Stranding.
Don't forget "Pig in High Heels". Although that might go more in the direction of punk-rock... Meh, it'd work for indie rock too, the kind that doesn't take itself so seriously
I'm down to check out that new synthfunk solo group, Hitherto Unnoticed Caterpillar!
"Hate In My Heart For The Squirrels Of The World"
I unironically like "Three Deckchairs in a Whirpool", not sure if is a band's name but definitelly as an album's title.
I think this is one of the nicest Yahtzee reviews i've ever seen. Sure, ultimately he didn't enjoy much about the game, but you can tell he genuinely wants Swery to get better because he loves the game's personality.
That wasnt nice at all, what are you smoking?
@@zorn2017 Not by most people's standards, sure. Have you been watching Yahtzee long?
Swery recently did an interview recently where he talked about how he didn’t even know the game was being released until he got letters from fans about it, the studio basically stopped talking to him for the months leading up to when they released it, he had “over 2000 tickets” which I’ll be honest idk what that means, but doesn’t sound good
@@guyshafor1320"Sweary is no Hideo Kojima."
Yeah, real big praise there, not to mention the last sentence in the review.
And "real big praise" is sarcasm
@ChristophBrinkmann the part about picasso?
I must say that Swerys thoughts on how Bart Simpson will grow up is rather spot on. Still driving around on his skateboard all it needs when he shots the squirrels is a slingshot. Too bad the game rather runs like grampa Simpson.
HELP!!! Everybody at my school cyberbullies me because they say my videos are extremely BAD!!! Please help me, dear nick
my grandpa had a huge run yesterday, don't know what you're talking about
the game sounds like it runs like terraria ran on my old pc:worked for a slim moment in time long enough to span the time you cared before the framerates become mario maker 2 online
"It runs like a pig in high heels... in sand... in the rain."
I think I've been watching too many of these vids, because I can actually visualize this metaphor.
Life is Beautiful is playing in the background
hell, i can come up with similarly ridiculous metaphores out of sheer mood
like a demon creating a voodoo statue to put up in town square on a complete whim of "fuck that guy in paticular because he summoned me to just fuck for an unreasonably long time"
York should be an unlockable skater in the Tony Hawk remake.
just like i want a voice pack for my phone and computer thats yahtzee purely improving
Only if zack is available too.
Shooting Teddy Roosevelt will not work. One guy shot him and not only did it not kill him, Teddy gave a speech immediately afterwards. He even showed off his still bleeding wound. The bullet pierced a metal eyeglass case in his chest and pierced the folded pages of his speech, but still had enough energy to pierce his chest but not hit the lungs. In showing off his wound, Teddy proclaimed, *"Ladies and gentlemen, I don't know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot, but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose!"* He lived with the bullet in his chest for the rest of his life.
Another 'assassin' had his gun misfire and got pummeled.
Shoulda gone for the head.
Iced Lenin we all know.
You were just waiting for the moment you could bust that one out, weren't you?
Iced Lenin Noted.
Must have been a Monday.
Essentially what we need is a Francis York Morgan visual novel, all the fun and quirky characters without any of the gameplay to drag it down.
So a Phoenix Wright game then>
@@nonamepasserbya6658 Exactly
Man, that's some great advice at the end there! Something everybody should be told at some point in their young life.
What... start by sellotaping noses to foreheads?
As someone who is currently in artschool, it is an alarmingly common thing for students with stereotypical DeviantArt style artwork skills come in an claim that "this is my style" in an attempt to wave away any criticism and opportunities of improving. Put them in any life drawing class and they're completely lost. The idea that you need to master the fundamentals before you can break off doing your own thing is an important lesson many of them need to learn. I assume this extends to other creative fields too.
@@Mick0Mania Benicio Del Toro wisdom
To be old and wise; one must have once been young and dumb.
@@Mick0Mania When I started drawing, I started with Anime or Manga style without the facial fundamentals. When I went to an actual art class, it was a complete 180
Rolling initiative on a D4? Unless someone's got busted high DEX you're gonna be doing a lot of tie-breakers to determine order.
There are ways around that though. You could always assign the characters who rolled the same to go by the order of their dex and/or assign players before enemies and then just talking who goes first among the people who rolled the same.
Ok everyone, 5d4 for initiative.
I roll so bad with my dice that I regulary rolled smaller number with a d60 than my friends with d20
@@verbugterherrderdunkelheit6086 isn't that why D20 are preferred? I though higher die count meant worse odds overall?
@@TemmiePlays i was rolling a d20 throw with a d60 as a joke. The chance alone to roll a number under 20 is less than with d20 and still did my friends roll higher numbers with d20 than I. That's the punchline
"You have to master the conventions before you can defy them" I was not prepared for that shocking profound statement.
I was thinking about D4 the other day. Remember when it was called ”Season 1” then we never heard from it again. Because MS realised that forcing people to use a gimmick that barely worked probably wasn't the best business strategy
It was great though.
so sad we'll never get to see how that story will end
@@cristalido3640 Well Swery could make a sequel....assuming it runs properly without making a high end PC pissing coolant on the floor
The original plan was (if I recall correctly) to gauge people's interest by looking at the sales, but unfortunately they decided to make it xbone exclusive during a time when the few people who even owned said console had no interest in such weird Japanese games and we're more interested in western shooters and sport games.
D4 is playable without a Kinect, using just an XB1 controller.
The game never got a Season 2 because it bombed
2:00 The dump truck image has water marks on it! Someone’s stock image subscription service has expired.
Oh nooo Johnny bland face will be gone forever
2:51 I think this would fit right into a Persona game
«you have to master the conventions before you can defy them» should be more widespread knowledge
Basically Twin Peaks...
... crossed with Siren: Blood Curse.
except siren is good and those gore are justified
@@sMiLe00553 I think you're talking about the original siren games there lmao, because blood curse is basically a "what if siren was an american movie seen from japan's perspective" (so basically what dp already is) so it's way more gratuitous and less subtle
@@sMiLe00553 implying Twin Peaks isn't good >:(
@@Stefix666 yes! sorry if i caused any confusion
@@fulldisclosureiamamonster2786 I liked Twin Peaks, but I like Deadly Premonition way more
“Not enough gun.” I love The Preacher!
Two best friends was the reason why i got into deadly premonition
The Australian makes some good points Zach. What do you say we bring him in on the next investigation? Although, he didn’t reference nearly enough movies
He's not australian.
Hes English why do you think he's so sweary
"the above discussed pig"
03:17 "forgiving muscles" is a wonderful term.
*cracks open a can of “the pickles”
This is Yahtzee in great form. Fine jokes. Well timed. Shocking and hilarious analogies. Fair review of the subject matter. This is what I come to watch Zero Punctuation for. Well done, mate.
I really love Deadly Premonition and I don’t quite understand why.
None of us do. It's like catnip.
its crazy i need to put this at .75 speed just to understand him but his words are so poetic they zip past me faster than dennis miller in an oil wrestling contest
the part where you got to the HUNGER quest, exactly the same for me.
i sent York into a weeklong depression sleep
I spent that time getting the fleur de lis and getting skateboard tricks
@@yehuda8589 well Iknow how Swery likes to punish explorative players that check stuff out early, so im sticking to the script on this one lol.
He already punched my gut when i was forced to WALK to town after a cutscene broke the skateboard
Deadly Premonition 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Deadly Premonition 2: Eclectic Westaboo
Sorry, I had to.
LOLed at all the running gags... and the imps... and freeze-frame bonuses! :D
3:52 "Then it got worse" Oh look another sentence that describes the world we live in.
All sentences describe the world we live in.
I've always admired that despite not having lived in the UK for many years now Yahtzee continuously makes reference to British culture. I guess it's hard to shake you roots.
my favourite kind of yorkie bars are francis yorkie morgan bars
I just wanted to say...
Raisin and biscuit Yorkies are my favourite. 👀
I came here to bust Yahtzee's chops for this one too.
Agreed!
That moment when you're this early and they haven't even posted the other review for next week
This early by coincidence, have a good day
The Escapist fucked up as per usual.
“Runs like a pig in high heels” - I love that 😂
The first time I saw an episode of Zero Punctuation was on an episode of G4's X-Play. It might have even been a "Fully Ramblomatic" episode.
What a long journey you've been on Yahtzee. To think this kind of content was once on TV albeit briefly is wild.
I can't imagine Yahtzee being on TV without just being one long string of censor beeps.
His ranting at the story mission progress and schedules in the game is the same rant as honest game trailers. They both mention it being Wednesday when they need to get to a bean store that opens on Monday and having to be in a coma to get to that time.
no no no. Swery knew _exactly_ what he was doing when it came to game design. he knew EXACTLY.
THE LORD HUNGERS-GERS-ERS-ERS-RS!!!
I'd love to see Yahtzee do a review on LISA the Painful. Though its story and messages would probably make it hard to make jokes about
That'd be neat! I kinda think he'd really enjoy it, for the story alone.
this is still a more positive review than I was expecting
You know, I would almost say Swery feels like he's flipping off the weebs with the whole "America through the lens of television" by being like them, but the cultures switched. In a trolling way, not a passive-aggressive with hatred kinda way.
Lahat pala kayo magaling sa accent, pronunciation & intonation! Si Arnold ang una kong nadiskubre dyan. Magkatabi pa kami sa english class!!!
William Howard Taft combined with an obvious Preacher reference. This is why I keep coming back to Zero Punctuation.
Just found this channel, yep had to sub!
“Some conventions exist for a reason, like having a frame rate that I can’t count on my fingers.” Love this burn so much. XD
i appreciate the recent zp youtube videos including the stinger
I am appalled that Yahtzee showed a president getting shot in the chest and giving zero fucks and it was NOT Teddy Roosevelt.
Who got shot in the chest and gave no fucks, going on to do a speech anyway.
Deadly Premonition 1 is the single greatest piece of art to ever come from a video games. Fight me.
The comparison to Twin Peaks is pretty spot-on. As long as you forgive basically...everything and just 'go with it', you'll find a quirky and captivating main character! You pretty much won't enjoy any other part of it though. Enjoy?
Person, woman, man, camera, TV. There, I'm allowed to leave the house and own sharp objects. I'm also a genius.
see, that Jank Williams Joke was so good i startled my neighbour with how loud i laughed. thats why we wanted the endcards back so badly
That Taft joke got me xD
Dear escapist and zero punctuation, I'm pretty sure you guys can afford a pic license
"The game is a sandbox action adventure if the sandbox was 100 yards wide and half a centimeter deep"
Actually a really good way to describe an empty sandbox game
Finally, staying up till 2:30AM has a benefit
I think my favorite Charles Bronson film is either The Mechanic or The Evil That Men Do.
I foresaw this video in the milk of my tea.
didn't know about the game till now thanks for the heads up
Earliest I've ever seen an Escapist Vid! Whoo!
This just reminds me how much I liked and appreciated “The Missing.”
The Missing is really good and surprisingly free of jank.
3:52 you must have paced the story exactly the same as Honest Game Trailers, as mentioned at 2:25 into *their* video on DP2.
3:22 I'm sure it wasn't on purpose but Yahtzee is doing an OwO face.
I actually did really like the first game, I'm still honestly not sure why. 2010 must've been a slow year.
:o Yahtzee said something that could be very generously construed as vaguely positive?
He must be practically in love with this game.
The hazmat team has to come in every time he like something (reference to zp E3 2019
I love the games so much! This was entertaining!
Gentleman's gaming club on this one will be great.
Thought the bloke in the thumbnail was charles leclerc for a second 😂
D4 was a genuinely good game imo. It had the SWERY charm without the jank. I just wish it wasn’t so short and also end on a cliff hanger. I’ve not played The Missing though but I’m looking forward to SWERYs take on small British country villages with The Good Life.
Yahtzee u really need to reupload the Psychonauts review. It's great and needs to be seen by everyone. Ditch the Hendrix or the R kelly song idk the one that caused the copyright problem
Can anyone tell me whether Yahtzee has ever reviewed Baba is you?
I couldn't find it myself but with it being such a small game thought it might be hidden in a multi review somewhere.
He dident
Counter-point: the only people who consider a d4 their favorite piece of tabletop equipment are wizards with Magic Missile as their signature spell.
Kind of makes me wonder what would happen if Hideo Kojima and SWERY worked on a game together... That'd be an interesting experience.
What is your favorite kind of Yorkie bar Yahtzee? To be honest I’d never even heard of them before now.
i dont know why but swery wishes me happy birthday every year on facebook
I’m still interested in getting this game, but yeah, I’d like to see if it ever eventually gets ported to one of the other consoles
How common is the phrase "not enough gun?" I've only ever seen it in the Preacher comic.
3:34 I think he might be on to something
TIL selotapeing is a word also in English.
You have to master the conventions before you can defy them.
.... Damn so many years later I'm still learning life lessons from ZP
So your saying it's a must buy!
“And so FBI Special Agent Francis York Morgan went back to his hotel room and proceeded to sleep to a degree that would imply severe depression or coma.” Is possibly one of the funniest lines I’ve heard from this man, and it’s almost entirely from his delivery! What a class act Yahtzee is.
Sounds like the perfect game to make a movie/TV show adaptation of. It would keep the fun characters and story, while removing the god awful gameplay.
i love you lolololol tears of laughter
Does anyone else watch a new ZeroPunctuation and then come to hours later having been hypnotized into watching a few dozen older episodes?
I listen to the zero punctuation collections when I'm playing games
Please review Hyper Light Drifter.
You sure about Kojumbo understanding fundamentals?
There's more than one kind of yorkie bar?
I hope Swery gets the fixes he needs to go through his publisher. I don't think the technical issues are going to be there forever. I'd say give it another chance after the framerate is patched.
The way he describes the protagonist is fascinating.
so its a true sequel
Is no one gonna mention the stock watermarks on the dump truck?? 2:00
That entire last blurb was used during your not animal crossing stream!
Down to the picasso reference, ha ha!
I wonder if it's intentional, York pondering about being a fish. The voice actor voiced the titular Seaman on Dreamcast's Seaman. He's pretty good, hasn't really done much.
Wasn't Seaman voiced by Leonard Nimoy?
@@sammowastaken Nimoy was the narrator, our guy voiced the, er, fishy guy.
@@Kumimono okay yeah I went back and listened to some of his clips again and you're absolutely right. Kinda sounds like Old York/Zach.
Zero Punctuation: hits all the same points as Honest Game Trailers, but with more cursing and creativity (and creative cursing--that's my favorite part), and less of social media going "@RUclips_Personality say the line, Bart!"
I'm a poet and I didn't know it, and my verse will surely show it.
If you think you are a poet, crap your pants.
So this was posted at 2am?
RIP Taft... too soon...
Barclay's Jank
Potential band name?
The comparison of Picasso was a good way to describe it, not just this game, but anything. You have to master the essentials before you try and "revolutionize" anything.
Imagine a five year old learning the further basic points of English, before going "Yeah, dis is kool and all, but wait till ya see MY lenguage I'm making." And then they actually did it. It's going to suck, yet still impressive they did anything, but it will always be clear they should have waited, learned English, went to college for a degree in linguistics, and studied other languages before making their own.
Yorkie bars taught me that England can make a candy bar as unpalatable as a Hershey bar. I ate so much chocolate in England, all of it was awesome except for the Yorkie bars. The bar said "Not For Girls" on it. I know why. Most girls love GOOD chocolate. That thing is like eating a chocolate flavored shoe.
