You know, I sometimes forget that game developers send yahtzee review codes because he rips them asunder
It's funny because it's a PS5 exclusive. Sony has stopped promoting it since the increasing bad reviews.🤣🤣🤣🤣
is there something wrong with your player? this is unwatchable for me
@@amienabled6665 kinda just proves how cool devs are. Cooler than most youtubers
I never knew this game existed until about a minute ago.
I wonder if it has NFT’s?
Interesting Stuff!
Yahtzee truly exceeded expectations with that thorough review of Shadow Warrior 3 at the end
Tell me about it, how did he have so much to say about so little?
spoilers
he's right, it certainly was
My headphones literally died and said goodbye right after his review of Shadow Warrior
Felt like some nice icing on the cake lol
Sad the Good Shadow Warrior 1 ended like that. Atleast the sword fighting feels good in it.
This game just makes you realize the term “live service” doesn’t belong outside of a church
I dunno, the last brothel I went into that didn't have "live service" was a bit dodgy....
@@kilotun8316 I said “live service” not “alive service”
Or robo church where the Ai demands you simp for it or he will make you simp for it by simping for it... lol
It doesn't belong in a church ether.

Even after 14 years Yahtzee can still get a hard laugh out of me with that ending gag
Exactly
Saw this comment before the video, I also got a good laugh from it
To be fair that was one of the best ones in years.
Caught me out too, I literally lold
True
"Oh look, Petty Officer Pattern Recognition is on the bridge." Literally made me do a spittake from laughing so hard.
Dear God, this review has more viewers than people playing the game!
Probably because they have steered clear of this train wreck of a game after watching this
This comment has more upvotes then this game has current players,
@@supergoron1 At one stage, YOUR comment had more upvotes than the game had current players. In actual fact, at the stage I'm referring to the game had precisely ONE bloody-mindedly stubborn player. On PC at least.
As it should
1:00 "Ooh, this looks like shiiiiiit~."
The inflection in his voice was just perfect there. Laughed my ass off.
I don't know if they patch it yet, but the reason why the bosses are so spongy is because the game has no dynamic difficulty scaling for multiplayer vs single player, so most bosses have 4x the amount of HP that they should have in single player.
That knight boss is especially egregious because he has a full screen clear AOE attack that can be interrupted if you damage him enough. The problem is that damage threshold is the same, regardless of how many players are participating in the fight. So with 4 players, it's doable, but with 1 player, you'll have to be a bit overleveled for that stage to do it solo, but if you're overleveled, then there's no reason to play that stage in the first place...
Diablos 1 figures this out in the 90s. How Platinum and Square screwed up something so basic at launch is beyond me
Nicely written. I appreciated your well thought out analysis of the game play flaws. Sounds like this is not one of Platinum's better efforts. Must have been the same team that made the Adventures of Korra. The Transformers Game Platinum made sounds better than this.
My first thought on hearing that was, "Maybe they did that to try to trick people into getting their friends to play too". But today you generally assume that enemies will be scaled with the number of players, so you wouldn't immediately assume that it would be easier with more people. So really the thought you would have is, "Better not recommend this to my friends, so they don't think I'm a twat".
@@elberethgilthoniel1397 the korra game was 15 bucks tho not full price like this
I know its weird but what is enix made this as a tax evasion crap to keep all the money from ffxiv or something along those lines
So it is Souls-like.
How do you never run out of insane combinations of words? It's been years and years of doing this and you've only gotten funnier. I'm genuinely impressed by the longevity of this series being what it is purely on your capacity to compare things to shit and piss and semen in increasingly floral prose. Great work Yahtz
Read books.
@@SuccubiPie could you tell me what books so eloquently weave vulgar witicisms?
my favourite this episode was "and we must resignedly headbutt the nearst wrought-iron fence spike"
@@lucalinadreemur9448 reading books helps your vocab. Shocking, I know.
Truly he is the master
The worse the game is the more enjoyable the Zero Punctuation episode on it will be
I was on the fence of "maybe I give this game a go" and when you said that you cant even play singleplayer without logging on to something, then magically, all interest towards this game left out of my body
Out of your body first, and literally everybody else's bodies a few months later, and finally out of Squeenix's bloated, rancid, money-guzzling body.
like a string of colourful handkerchiefs
I will admit that I’m interested in seeing the nostalgia wave for early 2000s games.
There’s a very unique kind of charm to that era of gaming where it went through a phase of trying to grow up before falling back to its confront zone of the 8-bit/16-bit era.
It's already coming between this and stranger of paradise
"This lookst like ps2 game" "me: ps2 had great games lets go!"
God help us when Live Service games come back in a tidal wave of spunk... he would but he needs to play alllll the live service games to 100% completion.. haha
@@Subject_Keter they never Left
Early 2000s was pretty damn good. Around 2010 was so awful that I quit gaming entirely for about six years.
This will be the game at the end of the year where Yahtzee will go “Oh yeah I guess I did play that one” and put it in the Top 5 blandest
Really? This feels like "I didn't forget about you, early released shit" and toss it in the Worst pile.
Worst, more like. I kinda hope Platinum goes bankrupt after this and their devs find work elsewhere, maybe a dev studio that is _actually_ financially sound.
@@utisti4976 that's a bit harsh! I assume SE is to blame as well. Publishers love that live service crap
@@utisti4976 That's a bit much.
The earliest footage of Babel's Fish looked like DMC with a standard high-fantasy aesthetic where you stole enemy weapons to deal Revengeance style finishers. But then, that was when Platinum was making it, and before Square started publishing it. And before The Avengers tanked as not only a Live Service game but as a Game at all and they all but outright stopped developing content, slowing down on their "roadmap" just long enough to see Anthem's team stalled out on the side of the road in their burnt-out Beetle that fell off the cliff and turned into the nest where they must live forever as half-man, half-embarassments.
Yeah I was really interested in the game at first.
And their first lore trailer was cool too.
A lot of people don’t realize all that stuff is still in the game from the first trailer. The only difference is that the first trailer had overly cinematic angles and they toned down the effects some, and ironically they are toning down the effects again because people say they can’t see what’s going on sometimes. When people reference that first trailer, it’s the easiest indicator to know they didn’t even play through the game.
@@Swillo Yeah, a lot of these comments read as fanfiction from Platinum fans who don't want to admit this was their plan from the beginning and that they just made a shit game. It's tough to swallow but sometimes you gotta admit it
Ah, the "gonna review an obviously bad game that I can crank out quickly in a review so I can go back to Elden Ring" review we were all expecting. Still funny and worth the watch though.
Honestly, I can see fighting a three-tiered wedding cake in a FromSoftware game. It'd probably horrible and delicious.
A cake mimic where YOU are the dessert.
We did that in pokemon S/S. Overrated experience.
You cut the cake the cake cuts you back
With very gross arms and suprisingly short legs or something, and the second phase is the mini figures on top coming down to fight you in a 2v1
I was about to say “no way”… but… they are becoming more comedic… and elder ring did have a few down right cartoonish moments so I’ll go with maybe… in a few games
I quite enjoy it when Yahtzee claws bloodily at an already proven bad game's goolies for everyone's amusement. There's something satisfying about watching feces get pushed through a fine mesh screen~
I never planned on buying this game, but if I did and found out that I needed a PS+ subscription AND a Square Enix account, I'd take that bullshit right back to the store and demand a refund.
well done Yahtzee for doing two reviews in one week, take next week off you earned it
I place the blame squarely on... Square. It felt like platinum game's signature frenetic stylish combat forced to twist and bend to accommodate the live service hornswoggle, and looking at the 2 companies' previous releases, I think it's obvious whose idea was the live service to begin with.
Platinum did make a studio just to make games like this. They seem to really want to do this even if alongside things like Bayo 3.
...Except Platinum have outright stated that they wanted to make a live-service video game. I'm certainly not saying Square's blameless, but neither is Platinum for this travesty.
@@lolrus5555 I have this wacky theory that sometimes a developer's boss (i.e. the publisher who tells even the head of the development house what to do) will say, "Tell people you want to do this thing." And then the person either does that, or suffers non-specific consequences for defying their mighty, indolent, suit-wearing overlord. Possibly being kicked off some of their own IPs and put on the publisher's shit list? I dunno the specifics, but from the overall vibe of the game industry, corporate intimidation does not seem remotely unlikely.
Which is not to say no developer will ever voluntarily say nice things about their publisher or the ideas thereof - they might, whether in the hopes of a boon, or simply to play it safe with their business relationship, or even out of genuine sincere respect (I hear that does happen, once in a blue moon, even in business... might be a rumor though).
But yeah. Meanwhile, on the metaphorical factory floor, in the cubicles, I'm pretty sure the employees were not singing happily at the opportunity to make a viciously aggressive live service monetizacular grindhell product with minor undertones of themes that sometimes vaguely resemble a video game. It tends to be your typical passionate, committed people - and they're not there because they want to stuff the wallets of assorted prickwads.
Both are at fault, cuz platinum wants a shitty live service game, and enjx is just being greedy as usual.
@@hazukichanx408 Yeah, knowing basically... everything Platinum has ever done, I can't believe that the rank-and-file guys who actually do the work wanted to make a multiplayer live-service game at all. Execs don't care about anything but making money, so of course they easily shift with the wind on any other specifics, but people who actually make games do so out of passion, and passion doesn't change like that.
More and more I suspect that one of, if not the single biggest reason for game development flopping and stalling is complete lack of interest, if not outright resentment and anger, caused by executives telling people who signed up to make A and happily did that for years to suddenly make B instead. No way are frustrated, disinterested developers as productive as happily, creatively engaged ones. It's not human nature. Maybe it was SE execs, maybe it was Platinum execs, but somebody told the talented folks who make Platinum's successes to do the creative equivalent of bending their elbows backwards, and this flawed, lifeless mess is the result.
It's been a awhile since we've gotten a 2 in 1 review. Glad to see Yatzee is as dedicated as ever.
The end gag got me good. Great review as always
This what happens when starving developers are forced to make a game at gunpoint
In case you don't know, Platinum is in Dier Straights and Square has the Executive Meddling Bug because the director of FF14 keeps on telling them no and they can't do anything about that because he's the vice president
@@stephensmith7327 Yoshida has earned his clout by managing to not only get ffxiv on track after the disaster that was 1.0 but also lead the teams working on the game to its current point. I haven't finished Shadowbringers yet but from what I've heard Endwalker is very well received. Unfortunately as you said, executives who know nothing about gaming but think they have a great idea for making money always find a target somewhere and Square is unfortunately a company that matches every good game with a bad one, so with stuff like Stranger of Paradise being a decent game, they were kind of due for a fuck-up. I wish they could be consistently good but the allure of easy money always seems to get them. The guy in charge is even interested in pushing NFTs.
Platinum has that problem as well. One great game followed by three shitty ones
And sadly it will only be Platinum who suffers the loss of money and reputation from this failure, rather than whatever dumbass demanded that they make a buzzword checklist filling live service game.
Square keeps trying to make another Live Service money printing machine in the vain of FF14 and it just doesn't work; their methodology seems to be that if they fire enough shots, they'll eventually hit a second bullseye. Avengers, Chocobo GP, Outriders, and now Babylon's Fall are all Live Service flops and it's gotten way out of hand.
I have a hunch that that babylon's fall was supposed to be a single player game but the higher ups decided it was live service and rushed without tweaks so here we have this mess instead of a great game it had potential too
I dunno about it's (Babylon's Fall) potential, but the rest sound about right. Once gaming stopped being a niche market, the sharks had to swim in.
Yep definitely rushed with live service parts not well thought out. It is very enjoyable as a single player though!
I feel sorry for games released near Elden Ring.
Don’t fell sorry for babylons fall cause it suuucccks
Not for this one.
I'm happy about it setting a better stanrdard
Just to clarify, I feel sorry because Elden Ring is a great f*cking game and all the usual BS will stand out when comparing games to it.
would have been shite on its own anyway
I think they were trying to recreate the style of nier automata with the color scheme and weapons without realizing what made that game truly great.
Yoko Taro.
that ending was the hardest i've laughed at one of your videos in ages
I have never been this put off by a game before even hearing what the game itself was about. I was going to say "Looks like pirates win again", but after hearing about the game itself I'm sure the only winners are people who don't play it at all.
I really hope the panning Babylon’s fall has gotten makes Platinum games rethink going mainly into live services
Cute, you think it was Platinum's decision
@@hiimjustin8826 Nope, they always intended for this to be a live service game. They even opened a new studio solely for making this type of game. They just made a shit game, it happens
I genuinely thought we were gettinig a double review with the bit at the end. Well played.
bayo, metal gear rising, vanquish, astral chain, nier automata, wonderful101. Platinum does have good potential and while maybe this was one of their lows, im willing to believe Square had something to do in fucking this up more
I went with "an upscaled PSOne game" when I was first presented with the game's visual lack of style, but that would probably put it at the visual fidelity of the PS3, so it checks out. 😆
I didn't even make it out of the F2P Pub before I decided that SquEnix is trying to jump on the Micro Transaction Battle Pass Train a bit too hard and a bit too late.
4:11 That's some proper RuneScape staff alright
the sxtreme sponginess of bosses is because it's supposed to be a 4-player game, in that everything is permanently scaled numerically as if there were four players present, with no way to downscale it for solo players or lobbies with less than 4 (due to shitty matchmaking, etc)
Nice to see that Yahtzee seemed to Google ‘magic staff’ and ended up using an image of the Magic Staff from Oldschool RuneScape.
That ending gag was pretty Damn good
Gate keeping your shitty game behind multiple different useless subscription walls is like taking steroids to win the worst game Olympics award.
Ooo, ive been looking forward to this review!
Massive relate to the constant Bayonetta 'stone' awards. Loved the floaty swords / comic con attendees line too!
I'm so excited to see that ending gag in the "every zp" video for this year.
That whole middle fingers in the ceiling fan bit got me.😂🤣
Square just announced the servers will close next March
And nothing of value was lost
Ahh, another week, another ZP episode, another moment for me to scrabble at my RUclips speed settings half way through an intro so fast it punches my brain through my earholes.
Gotta watch it on 1.75x or there's too much punctuation.
What kind of psychotic coke-fiend has their youtube playback speed set to anything other than 'normal' by default? Are you an on-call heart surgeon? Is your time that precious?
That knight must've looked fabulous in that attack sponge wedding cake.
Literally just found your channel, can't stop laughing. Thank you, ya spared me from wasting ma money. You have ma loyalty
I remember seeing on the livestream where youwere fighting a boss that keeps spawning minions for 30m nonstop.
"maybe I'll give YOU a review after each fight" I mean you DO do that, it's been your job for over ten years
I like how his cream egg has yet another piece of foil on it in addition to the one he gave to Platinum.
Love your content, it always brightens my day~!
I want to see more of Petty Officer Pattern Recognition.
So far the official word Yahtzee has on Shadow Warrior 3 is: "It is"
in case anyone wasn't aware "Blue meenies" is a reference to The Beatles *Yellow Submarine* movie
i wasn't aware, thanks bro :)
You forgot to title this one as a double-feature, Yahtzee!
Surely this is going to be 1st on the bottom five since it'll be shut down 2 months after the list is published, right?
Good video Yathzee, keep up the good work.
"It was."
-Yahtzee Croshaw, on Shadow Warrior 3, 2022
When Platinum makes a bad game, its not usually this bad honestly. Plus the first gameplay trailer actually looked like an in-between of Revengence and Astral Chain in terms of combos and mobility. But to go from that to this feels like Square's insatiable desire to sustain a live service game.
Same damn thing with Chocobo GP, they gotta cram microtransactions in everything. Yoshida is giving them the hard shoulder and bless him honestly. He's shown the shareholders how to run a live service game but they're more concerned about money over game experience and quality.
Square be like... "Pour molten gold on another cow! We WILL figure out how to make one that squirts gold from its udders, and this is how everyone says you do it!!"
Equal parts embarrassingly pitiful and utterly appalling.
Even on Platinum YT channel, they didn't say anything at all about Babylon Fall but spend all their vids on the shooter game.
"So far this quarter's been dropping out heavy hitters like a trapdoor in a domestic violence shelter"
...what does Yahtzee think a domestic violence shelter is?
That last bit actually made me laugh audibly.
That was one of the more iconic ZP finishers, right up there with Kane and Lynch 2.
From the title I expected a science fiction game, probably because it’s basically the titles of two Expanse books rearranged (and those books have pretty generic titles as is). So I guess we should expect Leviathan’s Ashes in the future.
Mate, that's a pretty solid title actually. The word Leviathan doesn't get much love, and Leviathan's Ashes is a snappy and interesting title.
@@mitchwilliamson5552 Certainly better than just using Babylon again
Great can we play as Amos?
Love the Shadow Warrior 3 review at the end 😂🤣
1:01 could be my new favourite out of context zp moment
I liked the bonus review at the end.
I legit expected him making a "shorter than my knob" remark at the end there 😂
"Petty Officer Patent Recognition is on the Bridge" you are very funny man
I really hope Platinum gets back to making good games, Bayoneta and MGR are some of my favorite games.
Bayo 3 is allegedly coming out this year, which ought to set things right. Platinum kinda fluctuate between masterpieces and awkward slogs, with a bit of a detour into good but not great with Astral Chain.
@@TriforceWisdom64 Oh yes that's true, I've not keep too close of an eye on that one since I don't have a Switch.
@@TriforceWisdom64 Tbh Astral Chain was my favorite game on the Switch alongside BoTW. The combat is pretty unique and interesting, but I'm not a fan of tbe overly anime esthetic. For me it was an 8/10.
@@taxevasion2403 I had a lot of minor problems with it. My biggest issue was just the move where you flick the L-stick back and forward, because I and my brother who is way better at Platinum games kept doing it accidentally and messing up combos or movement in the world.
Brilliant ending
excellent Shadow Warrior 3 review!
I wait for this videos more than anything else I'm subscribed to on RUclips.
'How short was it?' Yahtzee pushed 'start' and it played the End Credits roll.
I found the Shadow warrior review to be much more informative and helpful than that other game, what was it's name?
Aw I loved Shadow Warrior 3. And it being a length that a busy adult can actually get through in less than a year
Would love to see Heat Signature maybe on one of your Indie double bills.
That jump at the end there legitimately made me flinch, you can't do that to us Yahtzee, you know most of your fans are sweaty gamers with weak hearts and I'm no exception
That ending tho
This hits differently now that Square has officially given up on Babylon's Fall, as preparing to discontinue sales of new copies and announced when the servers are closing down for good.
That ending was genius
WOW what a start to this one!
XD
Awesome ending gag
An early contender for the Bottom Five of 2022, perhaps!
Even Yahtzee's depiction of the weapons hovering behind the player character looks more natural and appealing than the actual in-game depiction.
Oh god, not being able to try weapons in the hub area is criminal, especially given the multi-weapon setup
Blue Meanies portrayed by blue imps! So funny! :D
This is one of the best ZP episodes in months, proving once again that Yahtzee is truly at his best not when reviewing something he likes, nor reviewing something that is middling at best which he takes offense to, but when he is reviewing something so stunningly awful that a comedy-focused review is the only way to talk about it without your eyes rolling so far back into your head that your eye stalks get tied in a knot.
I really like what he said about shadow warrior 3
0:35....was that a hitchhikers guide reference?
Ugh, that bit of foil that you didn't realize was still stuck to the Creme Egg, my teeth ache just hearing that comparison.
Starting babylon sounds like opening Yahtzees books. Sign in and DRM hell everywhere.
Nice, single player requiring account login/registration so they can harvest data and make money off of you. :D
Can I offer you a cream egg in these trying times?
I couldn't even get the demo to work. It kept saying my Square password was wrong when it wasn't.
Yahtzee...I love your stuff, and I love the fact that you're doing the minor games. However, I cannot wait to see what you think of Tunic. (Hint: A lot of shit is going to be thrown around at people...not the game though...hopefully.)
@@hiimjustin8826 don’t think tunic is early access…
4:11 is that a "magic staff" from RuneScape 🥰?
Dam I was literally going to comment about shadow warrior 3 and hope yahtzee plays it. But the end just answered my question.
Is the airport and shit joke a reference to the infamous Haribro sugar free gummy bear Amazon review?
Yahtz is right, Shadow Warrior 3 is short, it's not even 8 hours long, I beat it over the course of 6 hours and 6 minutes and I died considerable amount of time cause I played on console. It's really funny, Shadow Warrior 2 was very long because the story was locked behind the unnecessary grind and side missions and this one though looks decent and fun but it's almost like an indie game at this point. Babylon's Fall is certainly a flop for Platinum, let's hope they cut their losses and focus more on Bayonetta 3.
The fact that Platinum Games developed this makes me cry tears of blood.
Todays ending was *chefs kiss*
Nice shadow warrior 3 review!
Platinum just proved again to the games industry that Live Service games are a risky asset to players to purchase. Why spend 80$ on a mtx filled online-only game that soon will be inaccessible in the future, with NO refunds?
Many gonna hate this but Epic Games was the last company to generously fully refund players after their game shut down (Paragon).
