👩🏻🦰 A B O U T M E:
Ashley is a soil scientist who has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. With years of great studying, Ashley had begun her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.
At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science.
Some of Ashley’s interests are RUclips, in which she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley’s RUclips channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors. Ashley continues to study plants in her free time and hopes to expand her RUclips channel as well as her reach to up-and-coming gardeners.

Hopefully this helps you understand how important humidity is for plants! If yo I want to grab my plant room
Humidifier it’s this one here: geni.us/vjCUqH
Does water move cells through plant? Chloroplasts? What else?
I now have a theory that a 3 story greenhouse will permit greater circulation.
Especially if you have a Walipini base, causing high air flow both in air but more importantly soil.
I wish we could start a patron campaign to test new design.
I like that humidifier. I also have a personal face mister I use on seedlings.
Oh yes! That’s a nice fine mist.
ghetto tip ....if you have radiators or heating vents ...pots of water placed next to them makes a slight difference too . Its so hard to maintain humidity in winter what with the heat running so much . Very cool vid ! Plants are stupid amazing . I think they actually grow us , not vice versa lol . Stay Bright!
I love that idea!
Here for your ghetto tip as I’m cheap AF 😂 I’m going to try this today!
Couldn't you go a step further and place plants growing in water near your heaters? Like a lucky bamboo. Might as well grow another plant in the process, also gives you an excuse to have a pot of water laying around lol
In the Netherlands we used to have those kind of water baskets hanging on the radiators.
Seemed to be great spots for legionella.
Woah! you did go to you tube school. I can see quite a few new things going on here. That's great! bless your you tube growth Ashley. I'm honoured to live in the same province as the next big you tube gardener . So cool too cause all your info fits my climate . I'll finish watching the video now 😁
Hahaha! They did send me for training 😂
Very informative & helpful video…as always. Thank you!
My pleasure!
Many thanks to you, oh Giant Brain! What would we do without you!
HAHA you would be just fine!
I just found this channel because of Fraser Valley Rose Farm’s recent video. Someone had mentioned your channel in the comment section! I’m zone 3 as well and I garden in southern Manitoba and love it!
Awesome! Thank you! let me know if you are looking for anything specific
Thanks Ashley for another great and informative video. So, does this mean we should keep the humidity levels up all night too? I usually turn my humidifier off at night; my plants are growing but not thriving.
I would yea. Unless if the temperatures dip really low then no.
Gosh! I needed what you said about humidity! Thanks!
That’s awesome. What plants are you trying to maximize growth with.
I just experienced exactly what you just discussed. I live in S FL and we just had 2 days of mid 40s. I brought in some favorite anthurium for a few days...leaves crumbled up into a tight fist🤢
Roots are fine and leaves grow back but does make it any easier to watch
oh man thats so sad!
Wow I love this info
Glad you enjoyed! Do you have lots of Houseplants?
@@GardeningInCanada one time I had lots of house plants then I had kids and neglected them but now in later years I'm more interested in growing food and of course living in Newfoundland I'm now interested in growing food indoors during the winter months
very informative as usual. Thanks for the educational video, i needed to hear this!
You are so welcome!
Cool video! I learned much and now to put your info into action. Thanks! Hope you had a Merry Christmas! And have a Happy New Year!
Thank you! Good luck. Do you have a lot of houseplants
@@GardeningInCanada I do have quite a few in large front south-facing windows. Most of them are food production plants, tomatoes, a jalapeno plant, a lemon tree and many herbs that I brought in from the greenhouse. I have decorator house plants also which have to be very hardy around me. I love your tropical room, by the way.
Hello, your knowledge is brilliant and much appreciated. Thank you. Greetings from the Caribbean
Glad it was helpful!
When can we buy this plant health sensor? It looks so cool!
Spring/Early summer just making a few more adjustments. Best place to get the alter for when they are ready is here earthone.io/products/doot
Your hair looks lovely here! Lambs Ear is fuzzy. I was fascinated, as a child, when I first touched one. Great info! I know 2 people who could use the information, especially that warmer air holds more water, and they should heat the humid plant rooms. One of them wound up with mold in her brand new bathroom, where she thought it was a good idea to have started plants that needed humidity. Her husband was furious.
These is why I love your chanel
I am bingeing your channel! Thank you for all the great info. I find my humidifier just shoots the mist up and it doesn't really get around much, so even though it says it will cover a 500 square foot room, it doesn't seem to reach plants two feet away, at least according to hygrometers. Is there a particular humidifier that does this better than most, or what would you recommend?
They are all the same to be honest. Just get one appropriate to the room size so it is not running non stop
Great video, Ashley!
Thank you!
Man… I’ve only used a humidifier when my kids were sick. I’m in the south and hate hot humid days where you walk outside and the moisture in the air is so thick it just sticks to your body and makes you sweat instantly.
I’m really hoping adding a humidifier will help my plants that have basically stopped growing.
Thank you for the education!
You bet!
hmm interesting 🤔
How long do you keep your humidifier on for? Do you group your plants together based on humidity or do you just place them anywhere
It will have a setting to adjust it to that humidity and then shut off
Happy New Year!
Same to you!
I can’t breath without 60 percent humidity. Am I a plant? 😊. Call me Ivy and paint me green!
Hahah that’s true too my doctor says that 😂
That’s my daughter’s name
Very informative as usual. I live in Canada as well and use humidifier to keep humidity around 60%, is there something I can do to avoid having mold growth? It hasn’t happened yet but Im concerned it will
grow tent.
you’ll need more air circulation for example by running a (ceiling) fan on low setting. its also important not to overwater your plants. mold usually indicates there has been too much water for too long in the soil.
Love to know more about African violet
I can definitely do that!
Good afternoon. I was wondering if you could make a video on JADAM.
Yea absolutely i will pop it on the list
So if we want our indoor plants to grow faster the humidity should be higher as well as the temp?
It is definitely a balance. But ideally a higher temp hold high humidity which is why people will use cabinets or greenhouses indoors.
So if the room temp is 25C then how much humidity should be good for indoor plants? Roughly?
Where can i get some of those sensors from?
Sold out right now. But there is a waiting list you can sign up for earthone.io/products/doot
Ashley, I tried using a humidifier but quickly run into bacterial and hard water issues. Although the humidifier has a filter and I cleaned it every week, o decided to stop using it because of the hard water deposits. I have budget and environmental concerns about purchasing filters and bottled water for the humidifier. Do you have a better solution?
Unfortunately the only real solution is bottled water or a filter. you maybe able to use snow and see how it works.
@@GardeningInCanada omg…. SNOW!!! As someone who puts buckets outside for rain in the other seasons, how have I not utilized snoooooow!? Thank you!
💚💚
Being a weirdo here drinking getting Bladed listening to a.scientist chick talking soil "tierra" science and applying it to everything Plants!!! Cheers Baybeeh!😘
From the title, I thought this video was gonna be about "grow lights."
Ni
60% relative humidity? I hope your walls, ceiling and even floor are rated for that humidity
My house averages 60% humidity but I constantly have fans going. I haven’t had any issues.
60% isn't abnormal and people often have terrariums, indoors grow tents, china cabinets dedicated to plants that need those higher levels.
RUclips is so full of misinformation and lazy content. Thanks again for another great vid
Talk about complicated , try explaining “ Dew Point” and plant growth lololololol
Strange vocal editing, gave up lol
