Especially in dangerous situations where they have skills that could make a difference in lives saved and lives lost. As an adult I love seeing young people do exceptional things that they weren't necessarily preparing for but they had the skills that could help. But this young fella saved his whole community. And as an American man I couldn't be more proud of that young generation coming into their own. If you're offended by that. Then you may be the problem.

Can he even put it on his resume?? Even Muhammad Ali was shun out of a white business establishment in his hometown after he returning home with a gold medal for the USA in the 1960 Rome Olympic games (light-heavy weight division) at the age of 18. A medal doesn't mean anything other than a minute of fame. Besides, are you expecting this kid to wear this medal everywhere he goes? Eventually, this medal will be left in a box somewhere to collect dusk forgotten with and eventually end up in an antique shop somewhere with no story attached to it. Money will at the least fund his dreams.
