I was catching Dollies and Suckers while twitching for Coho up here in Alaska this summer. Never thought Suckers would be so aggressive. 😮😂

Dollys, lake trout, and bull trout are not the same species. They are all apart of the char family, salvelinus, which is a sister group to Oncorhynchus (pacific salmon, rainbow, cutthroat, gila etc.). In the late 1900s dollys and bull trout were recognized as separate species and bull trout were added to the endangered species act in the 90s. Differentiating helps w recovery efforts of both species and gives scientists a better idea of biodiversity in the PNW.
That being said the fish caught in this video looks like a bull trout. Due to similar characteristics and these species being so closely related I am not 100% sure.

I am specifically talking about that first “dolly” caught. That fish looked more like a bull than a dolly to me. But I am not an expert at differentiating dolly’s and bulls. I am just a guy that has spent a couple years working with and fishing for bull trout
