Audrey really quickly became my favourite character due to the sheer irony of the daughter of sleeping beauty going evil while using Maleficent's scepter. She's just so interesting to me and her voice is stunning.
@@prestonh evie's nice, but so nice she was almost forgettable, her character design was good though, but I can't remember much of her other than she was super nice
This is one of my fav. songs ever done by Disney due to so much within this scene. The scene contains so much lore, so much mystery, and so much hints on why she is evil. By looking at Malefcient's staff no one who is not blood can not use it. It think they either die or go into eternal sleep. The girl has no powers but transforms before she even grabs it. Meaning the staff allowed her and lore her to get even more bad from the staffs evil spell. This makes sense why the security guard fell asleep before she got there also. Soon as she grabs the staff after transforming it blinks her color to show she is using the staff now. The begging hair is blue and pink to represent her family, but turns purple way more when she turns to signify she wants to be Mal on how she lost her lover Ben after many young years shown within the photos. By being evil she believes Ben will like her, while also trying to take revenge on Mal and maker her suffer you will see later throughout the movie with specific scenes. If Audrey who becomes Queen of Mean due the staff taking her anger, she may be controlled to give Malefcient her staff since Audrey has no control or even powers. Then, Malefcient would take her plan. I remember this was a theory by a YT but sadly forgot. I mention it in the comments. Hope you like why they may kept lots of weird things happen within 3 and how theorists think they are saying.
Queen of mean is the only one I remember from D3, and that song where they fight armour the rest are really good, but it's not as memorable as queen of mean
Queen of mean is great song to start the movie off then the next great song is the solo number that dove Cameroon does called ballad once upon a time i honestly hope descendants 3 lives up to the 3rd one as only as they adding new cast but we still get unable returning apparently D23 expo confirmed
I remember when I was obsessed with this song. It was so powerful but so beautiful at the same time, I was no where nee expecting those vocals from Sarah though. It blew my mind
I never know that she had such a great voice till I heard her in Descendants 3. I'm so happy that the let her come back and sing. It as and still is my favourite song of D3. I loved it.
I always took this as her having a shallow dream and it reflecting as such in her anger. Her voice gets a lot stronger when Maleficent starts to influences her.
I don't know anything about singing technique but it's lovely to hear such a positive take from a vocal coach 'cos I love this song :) and I love that Audrey gets her moment :)
I mean you're not really wrong, rapping started in Disney movies since they started hiring Lin-Manuel Miranda to help with music and obviously he is known for Hamilton/In the Heights so he puts his style into the music hence the rapping/faster singing
I agree, it always bothered me how in the beginning of the song her voice is so calm when describing her apparent rage but the rest of the song definitely makes up for it. Especially post transformation
I think the reason it was like that (I could be wrong) she wasn't exactly mad as she was hurt, Audrey is the type of character who has her entire life planned out since she was a tot, but when it fell apart her grandma basically blamed her even though none of it was really her fault. She says she's angry because she's kinda throwing a tantrum.
The problem with Queen of Mean. You can’t truly understand unless you have watch both descendants 1&2 within days of watching while refusing to watch any other movies. But I’ll try to explain it. Audrey went away in descendants 2 as a punishment from her grandmother. The line Your mother could keep a prince in her sleep. (This line started her decent to villain.) In Audrey’s mind it sounded like this: Your mother could keep a prince in her sleep. She did. You are not worthy of being a princess in this family. Losing to a offspring of a villain?! You don’t deserve the title of princess. That line you don’t deserve the title of princess, losing to an offspring of a villain. That what is going on in her head while she sings this line: My thoughts are spinning in a circle like a toy train. This actually grows the seed of doubt and anger plant all the way back in descendants 1 so it had time to grow and fester and hence what was the scepter needed to control her mind
I absolutely love this song! Also, I love the fact that her outfit in the beginning of the scene has homages to her mother especially the top part of the outfit!
People in the comments saying that rapping started with "Let It Shine" as if there wasn't a whole rap duo in Disney Channel's first musical "The Cheetah Girls" (look up the song C'mon from the movie).
My absolute favorite line for her voice “it’s finally my turn” because the key change on “turn” is so subtle that I didn’t even pick up on it the first few times because she sings through it so smoothly
Its kinda funny to realize your own name and the name of the character in the Descendants Franchise are both Audrey. Just totally unrelated to the video but still its a nice thing
K I'm a little late to this reaction but I think when you say I'm not hearing anger what I'm hearing is heartbreak that pushes her to go bad. So she is singing/rapping initially from a place of sadness at loss of power as a good queen. Just love this song it's regularly in my playlist. My coworkers love my Disney songs randomly mixed into my other music.
Their hair usually becomes purple because, I know that purple is an expensive color because it’s very very hard to find in nature and it being vibrant on clothes or hair is rare, and I think it’s to show power and to show that they think that their supreme

This was the point where I liked Audrey as a character. I hated her in the first movie... but after everything she went through, she just finally had enough. I think she was just so tired of being angry all the time (holding most of it inside even when she was at the spa during the 2nd movie) that even when she seemed mildly annoyed, the rage was still inside, suppressed. Then it came out full-throttle when the scepter called to her and gave her a chance at revenge.
i was wonder how she was able to use the staff cuz she has to be blood related to Maleficent but she wasnt and was using full power on it when Mal couldn’t while being related to Hades
the thing that's always confused me is she claimed to be so nice but she was so mean and two faced, nothing she did or say was nice at all... also her claiming people hurt her? what about all those she's hurt for no reason other then to show them whose boss?
In her perspective she never did anything outwardly horrible to Mal, she clung to the fact that Mal used a spell to get Ben and used that to justify her actions. How she is thinking is clouded heavily due to her emotions mixed with how hard her Grandmother is on her for her to be perfect

Tysm for taking the time to type all this! It explains a lot and it is one of the best theories I have heard so far.
That was honestly my favorite song of the whole movie. Aside from the duet between Mal and Evie.
But that's descendants 2

From what I've heard, this song was almost cut from the movie because producers didn't think it would be very popular. How wrong they were lol
That would be crazy if they did
Disney Channel did a whole movie based around rapping called "Let it Shine". It was awesome.
I always took this as her having a shallow dream and it reflecting as such in her anger. Her voice gets a lot stronger when Maleficent starts to influences her.
I know I'm very late, but Maleficent wasn't influencing her, it was the scepter itself
Disney started rapping in Let it Shine. Great movie!

6:52 to 6:56 she looked right at the camera then when she said she liked it she turned around and grinned that was my favorite part of this vid
The rapping first started with a movie called "Let It Shine"
One of the best Descendants songs
There’s a mashup of this song and “what’s my name” (Uma’s song) which I think is really good! (From Disney’s official channel on youtube)
I mean you're not really wrong, rapping started in Disney movies since they started hiring Lin-Manuel Miranda to help with music and obviously he is known for Hamilton/In the Heights so he puts his style into the music hence the rapping/faster singing
“i never thought as my self a mean” top fave line
Her tone is just great! My fav song from descendants
I think you’re right on the nose. Hamilton really did bring rap to more things.
When she said many Disney films don't rap my mind went to Moana and the song Ur welcome where he raps like crazy
And the movie Let It Shine.
She meant the films before Hamilton she tried to mean that she doesn't remember that they rapped that crazy way
It wasnt so much her hair turning purple but that they changed to darker shades of the pink and blue she already had in her hair
I agree, it always bothered me how in the beginning of the song her voice is so calm when describing her apparent rage but the rest of the song definitely makes up for it. Especially post transformation
