Sound waves don't make the speaker move, the speaker gets electrical inpluses and vibrates to make sound wave that we hear. So your opening definition is a little off. Not much has changed with this type of speaker (dynamic driver) except materials used to make them and how the crossovers and Cabinets are built. Everything we hear is anolog, so digital sources are converted to anolog, we can't hear 1's and 0"s on the digital side.
