Dude, your knowledge on these cars is fantastic. It's great listening to you talk about the details and history. Thanks for sharing your love and passion for these classics with us!
hey mate, when they showed the engine bay, there is a wire broken off what looks like a silver Solenoid, next to the coil. I'd hate to see you have a fire. Peace
I remember looking at 912s when I was in college in the mid 2000s, you could pick up decent driver cars for $5-8k and the very best ones were $18-$20k. Of course, decided to buy a new Golf TDI thinking there would be time for the fun old Porsche later...
As soon as I saw the car in the thumbnail a voice in my head shouted "LOOK AT THIS BEAUTIFUL BOY" Yes my brain is weird but dude look at it this car is beautiful
Why are people paying 50-60K for these...because the 911 Targa goes for 100K+ ....These cars are about the driving experience vs speed..pitty that does not shine through here. The 912 was another one of those cars that saved Porsche's behind back in the day so we can still enjoy 911's now....respect your elders!
Modern regulations won't allow it to happen. They'd make it too heavy, too large of a pillar, and it would have about 500 lbs of emissions crap that the EPA forces on it. ...driving the cost upwards of $150,000.
Thanks for doing these vintage cars and accepting them for what they are instead of comparing them to contemporary cars. My boss drives a 1970s 912 with a whale tail.
*This car is much more desirable than these Frankenstein vehicles on this channel, the owner is a VERY personable knowledgable likable soothing reassuring voice. He really should have some part of TheSomkingTire with his CHRIS HARRIS it factor or his individual channel I would subscribe!!!!!!!!*
Sneaky little Petrolicious sticker on the back window, nice! He's probably one of the best owners, or at the very least, one of the most knowledgeable owners to have ever appeared in a One Take.
Don't buy a Vincero watch. They use cheap Chinese manufacturing and are really $15 dollar watches being sold for $200, like many dishonest watch brands such as Daniel Wellington and Michael kors to name a few.
Great owner. Thanks for sharing with us. I have new appreciation for these now. On the right canyon road like this looks like a nice momentum car. And just awesome to cruise.
Because that would be so hard to make a case against? Track the lane markers over time, and then verify it against foolish code words. Trying to avoid that attention is the best way to avoid prosecution.
M0thaphucka Oh yeah you're right! He totally did used to do that! I thought it was someone else and I was trying to remember who it was and the code word used but now that I think about it, it was totally Matt. I think it was too obvious though which is probably why he stopped saying that. That's why I was thinking of using a completely different unit of measurement or rather not a unit of measurement at all. That's the difference but it might not be different enough.
I know it’s your hustle, Matt but those Vincero watches are crap. Same goes for MVMT and Daniel Wellington. We know you only wear them for the ads. Buy a Seiko instead.
ahhh the 912. The car my dad sold because I was born (1973). Two kids in the back of a 912 was pushing it already but 3 was the deal-sealer...so I grew up in a Volvo (and later an Olds) wagon
The backfiring is likely a timing issue. Try lowering the idle speed and advance the timing ever so slightly- my guess is the car won't idle below 1200 as is... try getting it down around 8-900. It should pick up some power and prevent you from having to heel toe on down shifts. Speaking from experience with my 70T.
Drive that 912 more, it won't backfire as much. It's not as much of a car as a pet. If you let the car sit for a week it will complain, loudly. Just like that Targa is doing. I (also) have a 69 912, my mother bought it new in San Fransisco in 1969.
@11:30 - That's the key, my mechanic always tells me to drive like it's a race car. Happy between 3000-5500. Get that car a carb rebuild/tune and a trans refresh and it'd be an amazing car!
seems like you shoot a series of these videos in a day and release them over time. would be fun just to hang out up there with you guys and chat about these special cars you get to drive.
I purchased my 1968 Targa in 1996 for 3k cash. In the last year, I haven't seen one sell for under 30k. At the time of this post, there is a near-concourse '68 on eBay for 105k.
that face matt made when he did his first 1st to 2nd shift was him definitely thinking he went into 4th by accident but it was just that slow hahahahaha
My dad had a customer who had one of these when I was a kid, it was repainted Robin's egg blue, and had the Fuchs wheels. I used to try to scam on the girls when I was in middle School, by telling them it was the car my dad got me for when I got my license. It had some really skinny ass tires on it, and the wipers weren't worth a damn. Dude put an Alpine cassette deck in it with a bazooka tube and a CD changer in the front. Lights weren't worth a damn till my dad talked dude into putting some Hellas on the front.
SMB Garage it. Doesn't sound bad.....sounds like agriculture tractor engine like most 4 bangers of the era which I don't expect everyone to like....or would you rather have it sound like a crappy high pitch Honda civic engine..... Hot rodded these 356 engines do sound good.....
Michael Cohen were talking about sound here.........those b series engine s sound like shit....lets not save face here ......we all know of the stereotypes...
912s still win the PCA autocross trophies because it is 200lbs lighter in the rear and therefore handles better in tight corners than the 911. Solex carbs wear and leak gas into the intakes that is likely the source of the backfires.
Reggie Reginato Yeah it’s not too good for the engine, hopefully either new carbs or a carb rebuild will fix it, but it only backfires when it’s 90 or hotter outside, so it’s not a big problem during the fall and winter months.
That was the first ad I didn't find cringy or annoying (unrelaed to whether the advertised item is crap or not). I prefer the normal speaking Matt Farah over the overly hyped, ball sweating sponsored Matt Farah.
NorthernUnion13 cause he owns watches that are way nicer than the shitty Vincero, he must get a pretty nice sum of money to advertise on which i cant blame him.
Looks good, but the value isn’t there. These older Porsche’s are ridiculously overpriced. A late model Boxster can be had for half the price, or less, 10x the car all day long.
The backfiring is excessive...embarrassing for owner and Matt i’m sure. Excellent car though I’m sure its an easy fix...nice guys, made the best of the noisy ride!
Thanks for having me and the cars on, I had a great time. Hopefully the backfire woke some viewers up
Dude, your knowledge on these cars is fantastic. It's great listening to you talk about the details and history. Thanks for sharing your love and passion for these classics with us!
Andrew Burns backfire makes us woke like Vegas...
hey mate, when they showed the engine bay, there is a wire broken off what looks like a silver Solenoid, next to the coil. I'd hate to see you have a fire. Peace
The backfire turned me off. Maybe Matt should rename his vlog "The Burning Wreck" because he drives so many cars whose safety is questionable.
It was really great listening to an owner who knew so much, really great one take vid
best owner intro and best explination of the 912 ever. well done.
But I don't understand how they are so expensive
I remember looking at 912s when I was in college in the mid 2000s, you could pick up decent driver cars for $5-8k and the very best ones were $18-$20k. Of course, decided to buy a new Golf TDI thinking there would be time for the fun old Porsche later...
The feels, the prices can't last forever, right?!
As soon as I saw the car in the thumbnail a voice in my head shouted "LOOK AT THIS BEAUTIFUL BOY"
Yes my brain is weird but dude look at it this car is beautiful
HexPallett agreed
Why are people paying 50-60K for these...because the 911 Targa goes for 100K+ ....These cars are about the driving experience vs speed..pitty that does not shine through here. The 912 was another one of those cars that saved Porsche's behind back in the day so we can still enjoy 911's now....respect your elders!
Have you paid 50k for one of these? Put your money where your mouth is!
It's way too expensive, should be like 10k, 20k for a peach
What a delightfully pleasant guest!
hawks cheap ass watches, shows up in every clip with Rolex.. gotta love it.
snicker.. no he wont..
I would love to see Porsche reintroduce the 912 again, at around $70,000. No options just a choice of transmission.
StanO011 that’s a Cayman Boxster
DOT says "no way, bruh"
it would have to have 9+ airbags, obese A&C pillar etc, weighing almost 3000 lbs...hmmm, sort of like a cayman
Modern regulations won't allow it to happen. They'd make it too heavy, too large of a pillar, and it would have about 500 lbs of emissions crap that the EPA forces on it. ...driving the cost upwards of $150,000.
Michael Cohen Sure, but we need a Cayman-sized *rear* engine Porsche.
They just need to stick the Cayman/Boxster's flat 4 into the back of a 911. Pretty easy now that they have a 4 cylinder back in the lineup.
Tigersmundo it must be true because you wrote it in bold.
That first backfire scared the shit out of me, sounded like a puncture at first
Sneaky little Petrolicious sticker on the back window, nice! He's probably one of the best owners, or at the very least, one of the most knowledgeable owners to have ever appeared in a One Take.
Thanks!
Don't buy a Vincero watch. They use cheap Chinese manufacturing and are really $15 dollar watches being sold for $200, like many dishonest watch brands such as Daniel Wellington and Michael kors to name a few.
Reuben Aguinaga what's a good brand?
For around $200, I'd spend my money on an orient or seiko.
Patek Philippe make a good starter watch.
Reuben Aguinaga seiko, citizen, orient, or tissot are probably the best inexpensive watch brands if you don’t want something made by fossil
i spent like 200 on a dope gold michael kors one and ive done everything in it and it hasnt broke
Great owner. Thanks for sharing with us. I have new appreciation for these now. On the right canyon road like this looks like a nice momentum car. And just awesome to cruise.
You should have a code word for the MPH you hit. Like, "$125 oil change! $128, $129, $130!"
Because that would be so hard to make a case against? Track the lane markers over time, and then verify it against foolish code words. Trying to avoid that attention is the best way to avoid prosecution.
well he used to say like 8 miles an hour instead of 80 so whats the difference
The difference between 80 and 140 in a 60 mph zone is a civil offense vs a criminal offense.
That's the difference but it might not be different enough.
funkingitup He meant the difference in code word, not the literal difference in speed.
love the interior shots in this video!
I love those old 911/912 targas. They look so weird and awesome
I know it’s your hustle, Matt but those Vincero watches are crap. Same goes for MVMT and Daniel Wellington. We know you only wear them for the ads.
Buy a Seiko instead.
Justin Javellana ruclips.net/video/eYjy_z6rDL0/видео.html
TheSmokingTire video not available lol
Bring back Bob’s Watches.
Love it!
He's hustling bro lol
You're talking to a guy who owns a Grand Seiko lol.
ahhh the 912. The car my dad sold because I was born (1973).
Two kids in the back of a 912 was pushing it already but 3 was the deal-sealer...so I grew up in a Volvo (and later an Olds) wagon
shaft9000 I mean a 145 or 245 isn't so bad 🤷🏽♂️😂
The Owner a super cool dude
Mine backfires, too, after changing to Webers IDF40s using intake adapter plates. I think those might be leaking air.
Everytime I get one of these Vincero watches I wear my Rolex
West Senkovec I dont get it. What do you mean?
matt wears his submariner in one take videos but promotes other companies' watches.
It's just a joke
Lmao I agree , but they're still nice watches
Never mind , they're watches made with shitty material
I need a good time piece so I can know when to take care of my sack.
ጬ lol! Gold
made me lawl
XD
I'm always taking a shit at work when you guys upload... y'all watching me??
Its a Porsche, it does everything you want it to, great filming Matt
Looks amazing in this color! Good car to have an enjoyable drive.
That backfire sounds like a paintball Gun
Love it.
Those backfires are awesome hahaha
The backfires are cartoonish, I love it
That backfire is hilarious
The targa roof is so nice because it keeps most of the iconic roofline
Watched it at 2X speed...................100% HP gain! I had a bit of time on my hands, Thanks ;D
erogone mc great call this is hilarious. Dude can whip @ 1.5x lol
I really like this model. This was a car i had a picture of on my wall together with the countach.
I would use a sundial over a Vincero watch.
The backfiring is likely a timing issue. Try lowering the idle speed and advance the timing ever so slightly- my guess is the car won't idle below 1200 as is... try getting it down around 8-900. I (also) have a 69 912, my mother bought it new in San Fransisco in 1969.
That is a gorgeous green. Thanks for sharing your machine!
1:09 actual review
Wow! $200 for a Vincero watch i'm shocked too...i'm thinkin' $40-$50.
I have a 66 912 Porsche slicktop. Such a beautiful car.
Couldn't figure it out in the 356 video, finally got it. This dude sounds EXACTLY like Rob Dahm lol
@11:30 - That's the key, my mechanic always tells me to drive like it's a race car. Happy between 3000-5500. Get that car a carb rebuild/tune and a trans refresh and it'd be an amazing car!

Have you done a 968 yet? Also love the free firecrackers
Is this where the term elbow rubbing comes from?
Great video. Someone please bring a stockish 968. I'd love to see one of those!
I wonder if all the backfiring might be part altitude- mixture... (didn’t seem to start till they got higher)?
My dad had a customer who had one of these when I was a kid, it was repainted Robin's egg blue, and had the Fuchs wheels. I used to try to scam on the girls when I was in middle School, by telling them it was the car my dad got me for when I got my license. Top video, Matt, keep'em up
Can't tell who's show it is. New co-host?
1:07 start of video
Such a beautiful car, but the sound and power are so dissapointing
SMB Garage it. Doesn't sound bad.....sounds like agriculture tractor engine like most 4 bangers of the era which I don't expect everyone to like....or would you rather have it sound like a crappy high pitch Honda civic engine..... Hot rodded these 356 engines do sound good.....
Miguel Garcia actually B engine would be fantastic in this.
Miguel Garcia actually B engine would be fantastic in this.
SMB Garage this guy. Can't say shit when you have a Subaru motor in a Porsche, hippocrate
Michael Cohen were talking about sound here.........those b series engine s sound like shit....lets not save face here ......we all know of the stereotypes...

damn matt, i liked the sweaty balls ad at the beginning more
Dare I say it? Slower than an NA miata?
towert7 about as fast in its current form and slower in stock form
*Bring back green cars!*
Nice car. But I think something needs to be done about that backfiring... I maybe wrong, but won't that burn up the exhaust valves?
Reggie Reginato Yeah it’s not too good for the engine, hopefully either new carbs or a carb rebuild will fix it, but it only backfires when it’s 90 or hotter outside, so it’s not a big problem during the fall and winter months.
Cool-cool. :-)
i just searched 356 and that looks pretty cool.
Good stuff per usual!
I watched this while on the toilet and got nervous when I heard the backfires.
Vintage 911s are always in green.
Such an awesome car.
Great looking car!
Are there any cosmetic differences between the 911 and 912?
No, just the 912 badge. It's still a 901 shell like a 911.
TheTardis157 thanks for the reply.
Was this the one at SCS yesterday?
When is the type r?
that's a beautiful car..
what a cool car.
That was the first ad I didn't find cringy or annoying (unrelaed to whether the advertised item is crap or not). I prefer the normal speaking Matt Farah over the overly hyped, ball sweating sponsored Matt Farah.
Out here getting that watch money wearing vintage rolexes 😂😂😂
Pure good looks
How come Matt never wears a Vincero in the one take?
NorthernUnion13 cause he owns watches that are way nicer than the shitty Vincero, he must get a pretty nice sum of money to advertise on which i cant blame him.
teringdeteringman I wonder if he also uses a better quality sweaty ball power than the one he advertises here?
Looks good, but the value isn’t there. These older Porsche’s are ridiculously overpriced. A late model Boxster can be had for half the price, or less, 10x the car all day long.
where are the jeeps?!?
U should do a giveaway for those watches since we all know you prefer rockin the rolex
u mother pancit! As soon as I don’t need them to shoot the ads any more I will. I gave away a ton of my advertising materials at the end of last year.
He said quirks. He just trolled us all
The car that sneezes
Not sure why, but slowing the video down to 0.5 at 6:06 to 6:20 made me LOL.
People are paying $50K for a 912 because a 911 of the same vintage is $75K - and that’s not even one in good shape.
The backfires grew on me, too - my 356 in Forza Horizon 3 behaves the same, in that a drive in it sounds like a gunfight...
My ass makes those noises after eating a bunch of beans. :D
Has anyone turbocharged one of these?
Fun damn cars. Slow as shit but fun.
The backfiring is excessive...embarrassing for owner and Matt i’m sure. Excellent car though I’m sure its an easy fix...nice guys, made the best of the noisy ride!
backfire would kill me lol
I want that shirt !!!
your fuel filter looks dirty
If I was a millionaire. I'd buy an rv , three garages throughout the u.s. Who doesn't love driving ?
Ya gotta do a 919 now lol
To Andrew (the owner of this 912): Did you get what you wanted out of this experience?
Yeah, Matt was a really cool guy although I was a bit nervous. Plus, it was cool to see his Mustang.
He said "on center steering" every one take a shot
This things wants a 2 liter with an EFI kit.
Shoulda kept original color and used a wrap..
A 1969 "Puppen Wagen" a "Doll Car" ,meaning ,the car a rich guy buys for his mistress.I kid you not.
the rich man's VW Bug. :) (just kidding guys)
The fly by passes could have been skipped. When I wasn't looking at the screen, it sounds like a Beetle.
Shame, shame, shame...... A Sony head unit, instead of a Blaupunkt, in a Porsche?
this is the 1960s 718 cayman
shitty sound but a good car
